Myrtle Beach police seek witnesses in wake of intense Highway 17 pursuit

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — Myrtle Beach police are asking anyone with video footage or eyewitness accounts of an intense pursuit last week that included suspects firing at authorities from a vehicle in Market Common. Authorities on Saturday released a map showing a route of the roughly 20-minute chase that started in the 1700 block of South Ocean Boulevard and ended after the vehicle crashed just after 8:30 a.m. on 67th Ave. N. Riley Pegram, 17, of Brown Summit, North Carolina, was charged with three counts of attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, kidnapping, unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a stolen vehicle and failure to stop for blue lights. Omarion Glass, 20, of Greensboro, North Carolina, was charged with three counts of attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and use or employment of a person under 18 to commit certain crimes. Officers at Glass's bond hearing described the scene as 'something out of a movie.' Christopher White, the lead investigator for the case, said Glass was shooting an AR style rifle during the Thursday incident. His courtroom behavior that included smiling and laughing drew an angry response from Police Chief Amy Prock. 'This is about much more than just a moment. It is about the danger,' Prock said. 'They caused a mere disregard for human life, and the fact that they don't care. He does not care. 'Laugh all you want . . . it is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Not in Myrtle Beach, not in Horry County, and not in our state.' Glass, who was denied bond, is due back in court on July 25. Pegram also had his bond denied but News13 was not allowed in the courtroom during those proceedings due to his age. Anyone with information is asked to call (843) 918-1382. * * * Adam Benson joined the News13 digital team in January 2024. Lake City mayor threatens curfew during public events after unruly behavior

LAKE CITY, S.C. (WBTW) — Unruly behavior at Lake City events has Mayor Yamekia Robinson threatening to invoke a curfew if it continues. 'First, let me say how proud I am of the spirit that events like ArtFields and our other city-wide celebrations bring to our community. They are a showcase of our creativity, our hospitality and the pride we take in calling this city home,' Robinson said in a news release. 'However, we have recently seen behaviors from groups of teenagers that have caused disruptions — behaviors that are disrespectful, unsafe and not reflective of the values we hold dear,' Robinson said. She said 'verbal confrontations and acts of disorderly conduct' have interfered with people's enjoyment of recent events. Robinson said increased security will be present at future events, with the potential of a curfew if disruptive acts continue. 'We want our young people to participate in our city's events. You are a vital part of our future, and your energy and excitement are welcome,' Robinson said. 'But with participation comes responsibility. We expect all attendees — especially our youth — to treat these events, the people attending them and our city itself with respect.' Lake City's ArtFields competition — one of the largest of its kind in the southeast — runs through May 3. * * * Adam Benson joined the News13 digital team in January 2024. Horry County police jump into action as stray kangaroo roams Aynor countryside

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — Horry County police on Saturday pocketed a unique stray, managing to cajole a wayward kangaroo back into its enclosure. The kanga named JJ belongs to Justin and Lindsey Richardson of After Hours Farm, and he was reunited with them soon after his foray into the Horry County outback. 'You know how we say 'no two days in Horry County are the same'? Members of the jury, we present Exhibit K,' Horry County police said in a Facebook post. 2024: Snakes, emus and peafowl capture attention on Grand Strand and Pee Dee Though native to Australia and New Guinea, kangaroos aren't uncommon at American zoos, farms and other attractions. South Carolina is among three states that don't require permitting for ownership. JJ quickly hopped into the limelight after the Facebook post, racking up nearly 1,000 shares and more than 500 comments. * * * Adam Benson joined the News13 digital team in January 2024.
