Lake City mayor threatens curfew during public events after unruly behavior
LAKE CITY, S.C. (WBTW) — Unruly behavior at Lake City events has Mayor Yamekia Robinson threatening to invoke a curfew if it continues.
'First, let me say how proud I am of the spirit that events like ArtFields and our other city-wide celebrations bring to our community. They are a showcase of our creativity, our hospitality and the pride we take in calling this city home,' Robinson said in a news release.
'However, we have recently seen behaviors from groups of teenagers that have caused disruptions — behaviors that are disrespectful, unsafe and not reflective of the values we hold dear,' Robinson said.
She said 'verbal confrontations and acts of disorderly conduct' have interfered with people's enjoyment of recent events.
Robinson said increased security will be present at future events, with the potential of a curfew if disruptive acts continue.
'We want our young people to participate in our city's events. You are a vital part of our future, and your energy and excitement are welcome,' Robinson said. 'But with participation comes responsibility. We expect all attendees — especially our youth — to treat these events, the people attending them and our city itself with respect.'
Lake City's ArtFields competition — one of the largest of its kind in the southeast — runs through May 3.

'Adam, like every American, is innocent until proven guilty. Yet, once again, his past is being weaponized against him in the court of public opinion, while the officers involved face no scrutiny for their conduct. The repeated mischaracterization of his encounters with law enforcement — often stemming from minor incidents — only reinforces the need for accountability in policing. 'Enough is enough. People should not be arrested for asking questions, and police should not be allowed to fabricate charges simply because they don't like the tone of a conversation. This type of behavior erodes trust in law enforcement and undermines justice. Adam deserves fairness, not another headline designed to paint him as a villain for clicks. 'We call for a full and transparent review of this arrest, and we stand firm in the belief that no one should be treated as guilty before they've even had their day in court.'

Georgetown County traffic stop leads to large drug seizure, authorities say
GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — A Myrtle Beach man was arrested Friday afternoon after a traffic stop on Highway 17 led authorities to a large drug seizure, the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office said. Chasen Davis was charged with possession with intent to distribute narcotics multiple times and remains in custody at the Georgetown County Detention Center. During a traffic stop near Wachesaw Road, deputies noticed a strong marijuana odor coming from the car. A search yielded 2.75 pounds of marijuana, 42 THC vapes, 9.82 grams of cocaine, 1.02 grams of ketamine, 19.44 grams of mushrooms, 13 doses of hydrocodone, 11 does of Oxycodone, 38 does of clonazepam and $3,330 in cash. * * * Adam Benson joined the News13 digital team in January 2024. Man Arrested for Allegedly Calling in a Fake Bomb Threat After He Missed His Spirit Airlines Flight at Detroit Airport
A man was arrested after he allegedly called in a fake bomb threat when he missed his Spirit Airlines flight from an airport in Detroit on June 5 Charles Robinson allegedly made the threat after he "was told at the gate that he needed to rebook," the United States Attorney's Office said "The safety of our guests and team members is our top priority," Spirit Airlines said in a statement to PEOPLEA man was arrested after he allegedly called in a fake bomb threat when he missed his Spirit Airlines flight. Charles Robinson planned to travel from the Detroit Metropolitan Airport to Los Angeles on Thursday, June 5, 'but missed the flight and was told at the gate that he needed to rebook," according to a news release from the United States Attorney's Office, Eastern District of Michigan. Robinson, 23, then allegedly proceeded to call Spirit Airlines at approximately 6:25 a.m. to report a threat, stating that he had 'information' about how there would "be someone who's gonna try to blow up the airport" and 'there's gonna be someone that's gonna try to blow up that flight, 2145," officials said. He allegedly also gave a description of an individual, telling Spirit Airlines, per the attorney's office, "They're going to be carrying a bomb through the TSA" and "They're still threatening to do it, they're still attempted to do it, they said it's not going to be able to be detected. Please don't let that flight board.' The district attorney's office said the flight was immediately postponed, and passengers and crew were subsequently deplaned. When Robinson eventually returned to the airport to board another flight, he was detained, the district attorney's office said. He later appeared in federal court, where he was released on bond. Making this kind of threat undermines our collective sense of security and wastes valuable law enforcement resources,' U.S. Attorney Jerome F. Gorgon said in a statement. 'Anyone who threatens to bomb an aircraft and endanger public safety will be swiftly investigated and brought to justice,' added Cheyvoryea Gibson, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Detroit Field Office. The FBI continues to investigate the incident. Joci Moore, one of the passengers of the flight, recalled the harrowing incident to CBS News. She said the plane had begun to back away from the gate when the captain told them that they were 'being held up.' 'So something at the gate had happened,' she told the outlet. 'You could just kind of feel something was wrong, but we didn't really know what was wrong.' Moore added that passengers were left on the plane for three hours before they were then asked to exit the plane without their belongings. She said they were then taken back to the terminal and waited an additional two hours before they could board the plane again after it was inspected and cleared by police. In a statement to PEOPLE, a Spirt Airlines spokesperson said, "Law enforcement was requested to meet Spirit Airlines flight 2145 (DTW-LAX) prior to departure from Detroit (DTW) due to a potential security issue.' "The aircraft taxied to a remote location, and guests were safely deplaned and transported back to the terminal. The guests were rescreened, and the aircraft was inspected and cleared by law enforcement," they continued.
