Ben Roethlisberger reacts to Steelers Hall of Honor selection alongside two legends

Three Pittsburgh legends are heading into the Steelers Hall of Honor: Joey Porter Sr., Maurkice Pouncey, and Ben Roethlisberger — and the future Hall of Fame quarterback couldn't be more excited. On Saturday, Roethlisberger shared his honest feelings on the Hall of Honor selection — thrilled to share the moment with one of his closest friends and teammates in Pouncey. "When Art called early in the week, I was humbled,' Roethlisberger told Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. 'You never want to assume anything. It means a lot, the tradition of this team and the people on this wall. To have my name included with them is special. "That probably means as much going in with [Pouncey]. Other than Heath Miller, I can't imagine going in with anyone better.' Roethlisberger's bond with Pouncey goes beyond what happened on the field — and for the legendary Steelers quarterback, there's no greater feeling than being acknowledged alongside the offensive lineman who kept him upright for 10 seasons. Shady escapes: The best Atlanta hikes for beating the heat

Don't let metro Atlanta heat keep you from enjoying the area's hills, gullies and the places in between. Why it matters: Shaded hikes offer you, your loved one and your family a cooler, safer way to get outside, enjoy nature and exercise without melting. Zoom in: We asked Jonah McDonald and Zana Pouncey, the authors of Hiking Metro Atlanta's Hidden Forests: An Hour or Less from Downtown, for the best shaded hikes for solo strollers, couples looking for some exercise and family-friendly adventures. The newly published book is a complement to the authors' Hiking Intown Atlanta's Hidden Forests: Inside and On the Perimeter. Threat level: Heat and sun can pose risks, even in the shade. Drink plenty of water and apply sunscreen as directed. For solo hikers Laurel Creek Trail at Davidson-Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve: Skip the popular — and very exposed — trail to the top of the monadnock. McDonald recommends this 2.3-mile trail featuring a babbling creek and small waterfall for peaceful reflection. Lake Charlotte Nature Preserve: This southeast Atlanta spot is "a hidden gem with limited parking so you'll not likely encounter many, if any, other folks on the trail," Pouncey said. "[It is] a very peaceful spot to walk through the forest and clear your mind without distraction." For couples or dates Pine Mountain Trail: McDonald said this rocky, forested trail in Cartersville "provides some of the best views you can get near Atlanta" and offers a less-crowded alternative to Kennesaw or Stone Mountain. "If you haven't hiked it yet, I hope you do." Cochran Shoals at Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area: Pouncey said the trail system offers flexibility to make a challenging trek or a leisurely stroll. "The flat section of the trail near the river stays pretty busy, but the route in our book takes you away from the crowd and through the hilly trails that make this a popular mountain biking destination." For family hikes with kids or strollers McDaniel Farm Park: This Gwinnett County park is in the middle of suburbia but an "oasis for nature," McDonald said. The green space has miles of forested, stroller-friendly trails, a historic farm and large playground — basically catnip for kids. Proctor Creek Greenway: Pouncey likes the shady northern section of the creekside path that's the launchpad for a trail system that will stretch to the Chattahoochee River. Proximity to Shirley Clarke Franklin Park means restrooms, playgrounds and post-hike picnic spots.

Watch: Notre Dame football commit Ayden Pouncey with an amazing touchdown catch

Watch: Notre Dame football commit Ayden Pouncey with an amazing touchdown catch While Notre Dame football 2026 commit Ayden Pouncey will line up as a defensive back at the next level, that still won't stop his team from using him on offense during his last high school season. Football in his home state of Florida has a much different spring than others, as they play teams in exhibitions, which is exactly what happened on Friday night. The 6-foot, 3-inch and 160-pound Pouncey added to his highlight reel yesterday, with an amazing, weaving through the defense touchdown reception. The Irish got a very good one in Pouncey, as he's ranked as the No. 146 overall prospect nationally by the 247Sports Composite. Notre Dame has had success with Xavier Watts making a transition from wide receiver to safety, and they could have a good problem with the opposite switch with the star safety. Pouncey is showing that he's not just a star on defense, but he could be a difference-maker on offense as well if needed.

Florida Makes Major Maurkice Pouncey Announcement

From 2007 to 2009, the Florida Gators football program won 35 games, including a BCS national championship and the Sugar Bowl. The first name to come to mind regarding the late 2000s Gators is undoubtedly Heisman Trophy Award quarterback Tim Tebow. However, Tebow's greatness would not have reached its otherworldly peak without his center, Maurkice Pouncey. Just 16 years removed from his final game in Gainesville, the University of Florida is adding Pouncey, one of its most decorated offensive linemen, to the Hall of Fame. Maurkice Pouncey Pouncey, a cornerstone of the Gators' 2008 national championship squad and one of the most dominant centers in college and pro football, will be inducted into the UF Athletics Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2025. Per the Gainesville Sun's Kevin Brockway, he joins seven other inductees in a ceremony set for October 17, the night before Florida hosts Mississippi State at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Advertisement Pouncey, a Lakeland native, was the anchor of Florida's offensive line during the height of the Urban Meyer era. He made 11 starts as a true freshman before becoming the full-time starter at center in 2008. The Gators hoisted the BCS title trophy in 2008, but his best performances came in 2009, his final year with the program. Pouncey earned the Rimington Trophy in 2009 as the nation's best center, while being named a first-team All-SEC and All-American honoree. His dominance didn't end in Gainesville. The Pittsburgh Steelers selected Pouncey with the 18th overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. He dominated the 2010s as one of the most reliable centers in the league, earning a spot on the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team. During his 11-year NFL career, he made nine Pro Bowls, three second-team All-Pros, and two first-team All-Pro squads. Advertisement Pouncey becomes the latest Gator great to be immortalized in orange and blue, joining a long list of legends who helped shape the program into a college football powerhouse. A 2008 Florida national championship team staple, he joins teammates Percy Harvin, Tim Tebow, Chas Henry, Joe Haden, Brandon James, Reggie Nelson, and Brandon Spikes in the school's athletic Hall of Fame. Notre Dame lands four-star safety whose brother once decommited from Fighting Irish

Notre Dame has bolstered its secondary for the 2026 college football season after it was confirmed it had landed four-star safety Ayden Pouncey. Pouncey, from Winter Park High School, Florida , announced he would be committing to Notre Dame on the back of two former Fighting Irish stars, Benjamin Morrison and Xavier Watts, being drafted on the second day of the 2025 NFL Draft. The 6-foot-3 safety opted to join Notre Dame amid interest from the likes of Alabama , Michigan , LSU Florida , Florida State and Penn State. However, in the end, Pouncy opted to commit to the Fighting Irish, who made the National Championship game earlier this year which they lost to Ohio State . "I didn't know about the area and I didn't think it would be a good fit, but it was a lot different than I thought it would be. That is why I wanted to get back for a second visit. I really liked it, so I wanted to make sure I got another look. "What makes them different is that, outside of football, the education is second to none. It is one of the best in the country and you can be set for life with that degree. At Notre Dame, you are not just developed on the field but off the field also." The newly signed Notre Dame safety isn't the only Pouncey the Fighting Irish have tried to bring to South Bend in the past either. Previously, the Fighting Irish nearly landed Ayden's older brother, wide receiver Jordan Pouncey, back in 2017. While he was committed to Notre Dame, he opted to decommit following the 2026 season, which saw Notre Dame finish 4-8. In the end, he opted to sign with Texas , before transferring to Florida. They also had an offer out for Ethan Pouncey, a 2020 class cornerback, who ended up choosing to sign with Florida. He ended up transferring to Georgia Southern, where he will play out his senior season. However, the youngest of the three, Ayden, will be heading to South Bend to start his college career. And the 2026 commit admitted he is a big fan of both head coach Marcus Freeman and Notre Dame cornerbacks coach Mike Mickens. "I like Coach [Mike] Mickens a lot," Pouncey recently said of the pair. "We went over the fit and the specifics on how they would coach me. That was cool. Coach [Marcus] Freeman is a player's coach and I love that. He treats all of his players the same. Notre Dame has a great tradition too; it is a good school, a good place and the players all want the same thing."
