Maharashtra development juggernaut rolls on

Keshav Upadhye, a young, dynamic and prominent face, has been working with the Bharatiya Janata Party for over two decades. In 2014, the then state president Devendra Fadnavis had appointed Upadhye as the spokesperson in his team. Owing to his journalistic background and better understanding of the socio-economic issues of the state, Upadhye made a mark as a spokesperson in a short span. He articulates the views of the party and aggressively defends the party on various platforms including the Marathi and Hindi national news channels. Keshav Upadhye worked for the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and after completing his degree in Journalism from Ranade Institute, Pune, he began his career as a journalist with daily Pudhari, Loksatta and Mumbai Tarun Bharat. Knowing the pulse of the news, he writes on varied topics and on various platforms like the newspapers, blogs and other social media platforms. He was involved in two study groups formed by the Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini in 2006 to study the naxalite movement and its adverse impact on the development of Chhatisgarh. The Prabodhini later published this report. He was also a part of the Prabodhini's fact-finding committee formed to study the Solapur riots. LESS ... MORE In the financial year 2024-25, Maharashtra has attracted a record foreign direct investment of Rs 1,64,875 crore. Maharashtra has once again topped the country in foreign direct investment. This has proved that foreign investors have shown tremendous faith in the decisions and policies of the Mahayuti government in the last 3 years. In the financial year 2024-25, India attracted the foreign direct investment of Rs 4,21,929 crore. 40 percent of this investment has been made in Maharashtra. There has been as much as 32 percent rise in investment compared to the last year. Out of this an investment of Rs 25,441 crore has been made in Maharashtra in the last quarter i.e January to March 2025. Maharashtra has set a new record of the highest foreign investment in the last 10 years. This is the proud moment in the tenure of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Since 2014, the state is moving rapidly towards its aim of 'developed Maharsahtra' under the leadership of Devendra Fadnavis. The foundation for all-round development of Maharashtra was laid during the five year period from 2014 to 2019. Projects like Metro, Samruddhi Mahamarg, river linking project, Jalyukt Shivar showcase the vision of prosperous development of the state. Projects worth Rs 1,48,380 crore have been started for 337 km long metro in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMRDA) alone. Multiple projects like Navi Mumbai Airport costing Rs 19,600 crore, Vadhavan Port project costing Rs 76,220 crore, Atal Setu and Coastal Road have been underway in the state since 2014. Fadnavis government has taken many decisions considering the future needs of the state. Fadnavis government has shown a futuristic vision of development through projects like solar energy subsidy scheme for rooftop solar energy use, construction of 1500 km long new roads across the state, Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Mahamarg, Shaktipeeth Mahamarg, Nar-Par-Girna river linking project, Wainganga-Nalganga river linking project. Uddhav Thackeray betrayed BJP and formed the Maha Vikas Agadhi in 2019. Over a period of next two and half years, i.e till July 2022, Uddhav Thackeray kept no stone unturned in showing his anti-development face and his poisonous hatred for BJP by suspending many development schemes launched by Devendra Fadnavis. The two and half year rule of Uddhav Thackeray government took Maharashtra 20 years back in terms of development. The Mahayuti government of BJP-Shiv Sena under the leadership of Eknath Shinde came to power in July 2022 and the development of the state regained pace. Projects like Airbus, Foxconn moved out of Maharashtra because of Uddhav Thackeray's inaction only. This same inaction of Uddhav Thackeray was the reason behind Vedanta semiconductor project also moving out of Maharashtra. During the two and half years of Uddhav Thackeray's rule the development schemes launched during Fadnavis government were suspended one after the other. Uddhav Thackeray's decision to stop the crucial project like Mumbai Metro was driven by his revenge mentality. Devendra Fadnavis was trying to start the Tata Airbus project in Nagpur since 2017. Uddhav Thackeray did not do the required follow up for investment projects after becoming Chief Minister. Uddhav Thackeray, who himself was running the state from home via Facebook live, had launched a propaganda campaign against the Mahayuti government. But the people of the state gave a fitting reply to this campaign in the assembly elections. The Mahayuti government has set an example of what happens when the government speedily provides necessary facilities to investors. Investors trust a government that provides them with facilities like land, water, electricity along with required licenses swiftly. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has proved his determination by making the country a fifth largest economy. Prime Minister Modi has dreamt of making the country's economy a five billion trillion economy. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is working relentlessly, so that Maharashtra contributes in realizing this dream of Prime Minister Modi. The Prime Minister has set a goal to realize this dream by 2027. Chief Minister Fadnavis has created a favourable environment for investment by implementing industry-friendly policies. We are witnessing this record foreign direct investment as an effect of this. There is absolutely no doubt that this development juggernaut of Maharashtra will be unstoppable now. MORE After the Operation Sindoor carried out by the Indian Armed Forces in response to the attack on the innocent Hindu tourists in Pahalgam, many developments took place rapidly at the international level. This operation instilled the confidence that India can demonstrate the power to change the entire landscape of international politics. The attack in Pahalgam was perpetrated by the forces that nurture terrorism in Pakistan. Therefore, it is very important to give a befitting response at the military level as well as at the diplomatic level to teach a lesson to the rulers of Pakistan. The operation against Pakistan was a phenomenal success. Due to this, Pakistan had to kneel down for a ceasefire. At the same time, there was a request to reconsider the decision to suspend the Indus Water Treaty. The American media as well as defence experts have also given detailed information about the losses suffered by Pakistan in the operation carried out by the Indian Armed Forces. The Indian Air Force inflicted significant damage to six Pakistani air bases by penetrating Pakistan's air defense system. As usual, Pakistan made false claims to cover its losses. These false claims could not deceive the people of Pakistan either. In the press conferences, the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Armed Forces gave detailed evidence of how Pakistan suffered losses in the operations carried out under Operation Sindoor. Pakistan could not counter the irrefutable evidence of the Indian Armed Forces. Against this background, Tiranga Yatras were enthusiastically organised in the country to salute the achievements of the Indian Armed Forces. While on one hand the unprecedented performance of the Indian Armed Forces was being praised, on the other hand, the main opposition party, Congress, tried to bring petty politics into this issue. Rahul Gandhi, who is leading the opposition in the Lok Sabha, made a statement that befits the ruling party in Pakistan. Rahul Gandhi publicly asked the question, 'How many Indian aircrafts were shot down in Operation Sindoor?', raising doubts about the performance of the Indian Armed Forces. Satellite images of how terrorist bases in Pakistan were significantly damaged were broadcast in the Indian Armed Forces' press conferences. The Pakistan Army had claimed to have shot down an Indian fighter jet. And when a journalist asked for evidence of this, the Pakistani Prime Minister showed how bankrupt his intellect has become by replying, 'There is a lot of evidence available on social media that we shot down an Indian plane.' Rather than knowing how many terrorist camps were destroyed in Pakistan, how many Pakistani air bases were damaged, why Rahul Gandhi chose to show interest in asking about the losses suffered by the Indian Armed Forces is a question only Rahul Gandhi can answer himself. Instead of celebrating the performance of the Armed Forces and by asking questions like how much the Indian Armed Forces suffered, Rahul Gandhi demonstrated just how low the mentality of opposition in politics can go. Such questions can be asked to the Armed Forces Chiefs in person, but Rahul Gandhi has the tendency to repeatedly show that he lacks such maturity and vision in politics- What can one do about that? In 1971, the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi decided to send a delegation of leaders from various parties in India to inform other countries about why India supported the Bangladesh Mukti Bahini during the Bangladesh liberation war. Mrs. Indira Gandhi had entrusted the leadership of this delegation to the then Jana Sangh group leader in the Lok Sabha, Atal Bihari Vajpayee. During the 1971 war, all the opposition parties, including the Jana Sangh, had given unquestioning support to the central government. At that time, the US President Richard Nixon had made statements supporting Pakistan. The Jana Sangh and the independent parties decided to put aside their anti-Congress stance and stand united with the Indira Gandhi government. Atal Bihari Vajpayee, in his speech in the Lok Sabha, strongly condemned the statement of the then US President Nixon and assured the entire country that the Jana Sangh was firmly standing behind the Indira Gandhi government. The opposition parties are standing behind the government to confront the menace of terrorism in the country. To make this known to the world, Rahul Gandhi, who is the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, was expected to keep politics aside and make statements supporting the government and the army. Rahul Gandhi could not fulfill even this minimum expectation. Seeing the supreme leader of his party making such statements, mouthpieces like Vijay Wadettiwar felt encouraged. Wadettiwar openly said that the photographic evidence presented by the Indian Armed Forces while giving information about Operation Sindoor was fake. Wadettiwar was heavily criticized on social media for this statement. Still, Wadettiwar did not apologize to the Armed Forces. The national and state leadership of the Congress did not ask Wadettiwar for an explanation for such a statement. The national leadership of the Congress must have expected such a statement from its regional leadership. The central government decided to dispatch delegations to various countries to share India's stance against terrorism and the rationale behind Operation Sindoor. The leadership of this delegation was entrusted to senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor. Even with that, the Congress showed what kind of attitude it has. The Congress leadership is not even aware that they are directly taking an anti-national stance by opposing the Modi government. MORE The rapid events of the last eight days are going to impact the entire spectrum of world politics significantly. These events were instrumental in showing the whole world the strength of new India. Simultaneously, India also made it clear that henceforth international politics will not be played solely at the whims and fancies of the superpowers. This incident has clearly shown that a country with a combination of a brave army and a strong leader, can easily overcome any crisis. Pakistan and even the superpowers had speculated that India would stop after destroying the terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir after Pahalgam attack. But when Pakistan again attempted to strike 15 Indian cities with drones and missiles, India retaliated to protect its national security and proved this speculation wrong. The Indian Army with its powerful strike on Pakistan's airbases stunned their political and military rulers along with their close friend China. BrahMos missiles launched a fierce attack on eleven Pakistani airbases. Six Pakistani airbases were targeted by air-to-surface BrahMos missiles. Pakistan's claim of no damage during the Indian attack has been refuted by a globally renowned newspaper like The Washington Post. The Washington Post report has clearly mentioned that Indian aircrafts had penetrated more than 100 miles inside Pakistani territory. The Washington Post verified 27 satellite images. The Washington Post rejected Pakistan's claim based on these images. It has reported about the condition of three important airbases of Pakistan after the attack. Two Pakistani control centres have been destroyed at Nur Khan Airbase in Rawalpindi. The Washington Post stated that Nur Khan Airbase was also attacked massively. It has also reported that six airbases, three hangars, two runways and four mobile towers of the Air Force experienced significant damage, based on satellite images. Earlier, The New York Times had also reported about the damage to Pakistani airbases in India's Operation Sindoor. The New York Times reported that the Nur Khan airbase, which was located about 15 miles from the Pakistani Army headquarters and the Prime Minister's office, was the most difficult military target attacked by India. It also reported that India has attacked locations like Rahim Yar Khan Airfield, Sargodha Airbase, Jagrur and Sialkot Airbase. Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the airbase in Adampur Punjab on 13th May and interacted with army personnel. Pakistan had claimed to have destroyed this same base. Prime Minister Modi completely exposed Pakistan's lies by visiting the same base and addressing army personnel. Prime Minister Modi while addressing on this occasion, gave a stern warning to Pakistan and all those forces which are backing Pakistan. 'India has only postponed its military action. But if Pakistan carries out any terrorist activity or military mischief, we will give a befitting reply. We will respond on our own terms and conditions, in our own way. We should constantly remind the enemy that this is a new India. This India wants peace, but if humanity gets attacked, this India also knows very well how to destroy the enemy on the war front. You will be destroyed if you carry out another terrorist attack,' India has reprimanded Pakistan loud and clear with these stern words. Whether Pakistan's political leadership learns something from this, only time will tell. 'Pakistan should not threaten us with nuclear weapons, we do not pay heed to it' this statement of Prime Minister Modi at Adampur says a lot. Congress supporters and Modi opponents cried foul that India had accepted America's alleged mediation by accepting a ceasefire. But Donald Trump himself silenced them by saying that he was not instrumental for a ceasefire in India- Pakistan conflict. India has also made it crystal clear that no mercy will be shown to Pakistan by announcing that Indus Water Treaty will remain suspended. Along with this India has also played another diplomatic move. The Modi government has decided to send MPs from various parties to different countries to brief them about Pakistan's role in sponsoring terrorism, Pahalgam Hindu massacre and the success of India's Operation Sindoor. Congress leader and former Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor and Asaduddin Owaisi along with a select group of opposition MPs will lead this campaign. Each team will be accompanied by a senior official from the External Affairs ministry and other colleagues. This will give extensive support to India's foreign policy worldwide. A message will be given to the entire world that as far as national interest is concerned India is united keeping political differences aside. . 'वीरः सदा जयत्येव, नृपतिः शूर एव च' which means a king should stand firmly behind his army, such an army can defeat anyone on the battlefield. The Prabodhini later published this report. He was also a part of the Prabodhini's fact-finding committee formed to study the Solapur riots. LESS ... MORE Just two days after the Pahalgam massacre, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had expressed his anger in a few short yet powerful words, saying that he would punish the terrorists who carried out these attacks and the forces supporting them in a manner that was beyond their imagination. The rulers of Pakistan are experiencing how true these words of the Prime Minister were after 'Operation Sindoor'. 'Operation Sindoor' has proven that another powerful force has emerged on the face of this world in the form of India. In the 15 days up to May 7 after the Pahalgam massacre, efforts to frame the central government as the accused had started with great vigor. 'How can we stop Pakistan's water, attack Pakistan, why is the 56-inch chest silent now?' Opposition leaders and Modi opponents on social media had started using this kind of language. Some groups had even demonstrated their empty vessels by suggesting the possibility that the Pahalgam attack was staged. Leaders like Ajay Rai, by hanging chillies and lemons on a replica of a Rafale aircraft, raised doubts not on the Modi government but on the capabilities of the respected Indian Air Force. These groups had also managed to quell their opposition to Modi by making fun of the mock drills announced to prepare the citizens for war. All these groups have been completely silent and have lost their voice since the launch of 'Operation Sindoor'. They did not expect the central government to take such steps. Some actors were also observed to be in a hurry to shed a 'ray' of their intelligence on the world by saying that there is no evidence that Pakistani terrorists were killed after the Indian army's action. Whereas, the Indian army has made 'Operation Sindoor' a success by accurately destroying the bases of terrorist organizations 'Lashkar-e-Taiba', 'Jaish-e-Mohammed' and 'Hizbul Mujahideen' in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Another phase in the revenge for the Pahalgam attack has been completed. Many defense and political experts had speculated that India would stop after completing this phase. Defying all these predictions, India has intensified its operation. However, this action was inevitable. This situation is not created by India, this conflict has been imposed on India by the army chiefs of Pakistan and the rulers of Pakistan who prostrate before them. India has suffered a lot in the undeclared war waged by Pakistan since 1980s. Punjab was disturbed by the specter of Khalistan in the 1980s, including the deaths of thousands of innocent civilians, including important figures like Indira Gandhi, Army Chief Arun Kumar Vaidya, and Harcharan Singh Longowal, subsequently followed by the violence in the Kashmir Valley in the 1990s, inciting Kashmiri youth to demand Azad Kashmir, killing thousands of civilians, hundreds of security forces personnel, police, the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts, the 2001 Parliament attack, the 2008 Mumbai attack, and bomb blasts in many places in the country… the common man of India has been put through all of these experiences. Heads of terrorists in Pakistan and supporters of Pakistan in India used to applaud after seeing the grief of relatives of the victims of these terrorist incidents. This had to be accounted for at some point, and it is happening now. The tolerance shown so far has been shattered by the Pahalgam incident. There are many facets of this Sindoor operation. After 2014, the Modi government, using the mantra of 'Made-in-India', developed many weapons and armor within the country, created world-class defense systems, and took a leap in the production of missiles. In the last ten years since 2014, there have been deals like Rafale and missile systems like S-400. These deals were done between the two governments without any intermediaries. Since there were no middlemen or brokers, there was not even a hint of corruption in these transactions. The use of S-400 and Rafale has stood out during the ongoing operation. India has made great progress in arms manufacturing under both Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat. During the Modi era, India has developed a missile system like Dhanushya in the country. The defense production through the Atmanirbhar Bharat Mission, such as the Arjun main battle tank developed with indigenous technology, and the Tejas fighter aircraft made entirely in India, has been very effective in this Sindoor Mission. India, which imported all weapons until a few years ago, has exported weapons worth Rs 22,000 crore. All the atrocities and misdeeds done by Pakistan till now are finally being accounted for. And those who are eager to take the blame for this should definitely do so now. Lord Krishna has told us that there is nothing wrong in destroying injustice. Many generations have tolerated terrorism till now. The threshold of Shishupala's 100 mistakes in the form of terrorist activities was bound to be crossed at some point, and the Pahalgam attack was the final breaking point. The Prabodhini later published this report. He was also a part of the Prabodhini's fact-finding committee formed to study the Solapur riots. LESS ... MORE After the Pahalgam attack, the common man stood behind the government in unity. In fact, people in the country are absolutely sure that Narendra Modi government will give a befitting reply to this attack. The reason being India retaliated to similar terrorist attacks in 2016 and 2019 by directly entering Pakistani territory. The common Indian is certain that Prime Minister Modi will take the right decision in terms of the country's security. In 2008, Pakistani terrorists entered a city like Mumbai and killed hundreds of innocent Indians. The then ruling government of Congress led by Manmohan Singh did nothing but condemn Pakistan. Terrorists in Pahalgam first confirmed that the innocent civilians were Hindus and then killed them. This information was given by the relatives of the citizens who fell victim to this attack. This underlined the fact that only Hindus were targeted. There is nothing more unfortunate than seasoned leader like Sharad Pawar and Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar playing politics over this. It has often seen that the entire nation stands firmly behind the central government in war and crisis like terrorist attacks. After the struggle for Bangladesh liberation started in 1971, the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi decided to support that struggle. At that time, Mrs Gandhi had a discussion with Atal Bihari Vajpayee. She gave him an idea of the situation. Back then, Atalji had clearly told Indiraji that 'Jana Sangh will give total support to the government's decision'. Atal Bihari Vajpayee was aware that showing party differences in such a situation would have been an anti-national act. 'We will criticize the government's other policies in Parliament and on other platforms whenever necessary, but after Pakistan attacked India over the Bangladesh Liberation war, it is the duty of every patriotic citizen to stand behind the government', this was the sentiment behind Jana Sangh giving its total support to Indira Gandhi government. National interest is larger than the party interest that is the basic teaching of Jana Sangh and BJP workers. With this same sentiment, Deendayal Upadhyay had publicly assured during the 1965 Pakistan war that Jana Sangh is with Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri. Unfortunately, today's Congress leadership seems to lack a broad nationalist vision. The Modi government had immediately called an all-party meeting to inform all opposition parties regarding the situation after the Pahalgam attack as well as the government's stand on it. Senior leader Sharad Pawar was the country's Defence Minister from 1991 to 1993. Having been active in national politics for many years, Pawar Saheb knows the role opposition parties should play in supporting the government in such situations. Pawar saheb met the relatives of the citizens who fell victim in the Pahalgam attack. Pawar saheb told the media that relatives of victims said that, 'terrorist killed citizens after asking the religion'. However, Pawar saheb did not forget to add a remark that he does not know whether the terrorist actually did so. The question still remains that why a leader like Pawar saheb would try to say that Hindus were not targeted and killed. On the other hand, the Congress has proved once again that they have completely lost their mind. A faceless photograph of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was published on Congress's official 'X' handle on the grounds of 'sar tan se juda'. Congress had criticised through this photograph that Prime Minister Modi disappeared after the terrorist attack. Prime Minister Modi cut short his foreign visit and returned to India after learning about the attack. The Prime Minister held meetings at the airport itself without even going to his residence. Congress was probably expecting that the Prime Minister should have revealed these important discussions even during such a situation. Congress deleted its post on 'X' after severe criticism. Even in this situation Vijay Wadettiwar was babbling like a fool. He made a statement that, 'terrorists do not have so much time to kill citizens by asking their religion'. There is a saying in Hindi, 'Ghar ka bhedi Lanka dhaye'. This means that anti-national people living in the country are more dangerous than external enemies. The statements of Congress leaders reminds one of this saying. Congress leadership has lost this sense that our statements should not harm the country, no matter what the circumstances are. It is the duty of the opposition parties to oppose the Bharatiya Janata Party in politics. However, everyone must be careful that expressing the opposition should not lean towards anti-nationalism. Congress has forgotten the national interest while opposing the BJP. Karnataka Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah has publicly taken a stand of war with Pakistan over Pahalgam attack. There is absolutely no doubt that Pakistan's secret supporters in India are the biggest threat for the country. Facebook Twitter Linkedin Email Disclaimer Views expressed above are the author's own.
