Build ‘Viksit Gaon' to achieve Viksit Bharat goal by 2047: Minister

Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications, Dr Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, on Monday called for a renewed push to transform villages into 'Viksit Gaon' (developed villages), as a necessary step towards achieving the goal of a 'Viksit Bharat' (developed India) by 2047. Speaking at the first meeting of the performance review committee of the Ministry of Rural Development here, Dr Sekhar said that a future where every rural family lives in a pucca house with basic amenities, every village is connected by quality roads, every youth has employment opportunities, and every woman is empowered and financially independent, is not a dream but an achievable reality. He said that to realise this vision, the Ministry must move forward with fresh energy, innovative thinking, and deep commitment. 'We are not just implementing schemes, we are writing the next chapter of India's growth story,' Dr Sekhar said, crediting the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Cabinet Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for the remarkable progress made in rural development. Highlighting the success of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), Dr Sekhar said it has become a powerful tool against rural unemployment and distress migration, especially during the agricultural lean seasons. He said with an annual investment between Rs 90,000 to Rs 1,00,000 crore, the scheme generates over 250 crore person-days of work annually, with more than 36 crore job cards issued and 15 crore active workers. The minister stressed the need to move beyond wage payments and focus on creating durable and productive assets through diversified projects. He also called for community involvement in selecting works and greater convergence with other development schemes. On the housing front, Dr Sekhar informed that more than 3.22 crore pucca houses have been built under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana - Gramin (PMAY-G), helping families living in kutcha or dilapidated homes. He said the government has set a target of building an additional 2 crore houses by 2029, and encouraged the use of eco-friendly, cost-effective, and region-specific construction technologies. Dr Sekhar also underlined the success of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), under which over 7.56 lakh kilometres of rural roads have been constructed so far. He suggested the creation of state-level road maintenance funds, use of community-based monitoring systems, and innovative financing models to ensure sustainability of road infrastructure.

UltraTech, JK Lakshmi, Shree Cement, ACC rally up to 6% on positive outlook

Cement companies share price today Shares of cement companies JK Lakshmi Cement, Shree Cement, India Cement, ACC, Ambuja Cements, JK Cement and UltraTech Cement rallied up to 6 per cent on the BSE in Friday's intra-day trade on expectations of growth recovering in cement sector in the current financial year 2025-26 (FY26). UltraTech Cement was up 2 per cent at ₹12,134.90 in intra-day trade. The stock was quoting close to its 52-week high level of ₹12,341 touched on April 28, 2025. Thus far in the month of June 2025, UltraTech Cement has rallied 8 per cent. Shares of JK Lakshmi Cement surged 6 per cent to ₹894 amid heavy volumes. In the past four trading days, the stock appreciated by 10 per cent. It had hit a 52-week high of ₹935 on June 27, 2024. Cement sector outlook In the short term, the sector will likely face seasonal challenges due to monsoon related weakness, affecting demand and pricing. However, analysts at Elara Capital expect demand growth to rebound in FY26, driven by improved execution of government initiatives, such as the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana - Gramin (PMAY-G), and increased irrigation spending. Capacity addition will continue, keeping utilization range-bound. As the industry enters a lean season, profit margin may see a near-term peak in Q1FY26. Investors may consider reducing their positions after Q1FY26 results to avoid short-term underperformance, the brokerage firm said. With the early onset of the monsoon, muted demand in the initial months, and anticipated volume push towards end-Q1FY26, cement prices are likely to come under pressure. Structurally, analysts said they are positive on firms with greater presence in North and North-East. UltraTech is well placed to gain market share due to its consistent strategy. Meanwhile, cement pricing momentum moderated in June 2025, with the all-India average price declining by ~1 per cent month-on-month (MoM). Further, due to sluggish demand trends since the beginning of 1QFY26, followed by regional challenges (heat wave, unseasonal rains, labor unavailability), analysts at Motilal Oswal Financial Services estimate industry demand growth to be in low to mid-single digits year-on-year (YoY) in Q1FY26, despite having a low base. The brokerage firm estimates that higher prices and cost-saving measures are likely to improve profitability in Q1FY26. The brokerage firm maintains a positive outlook on the cement sector due to resilient pricing trends despite the early onset of the monsoon in major parts of the country, higher consolidation, and favorable fuel prices.

Mizoram BJP chief slams govt for ‘misutilisation' of central funds

1 2 Aizawl: Mizoram BJP unit president Vanlalhmuaka on Monday slammed the state govt for not judiciously utilising the funds allocated for implementation of central schemes, resulting in underutilisation of central funds meant for the uplift of marginal sections of the society in the state. Addressing party workers at 'Mipui Run' or Atal Bhavan (BJP office) in Aizawl, Vanlalhmuaka said while some people in Mizoram benefited from the central schemes launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's govt, there are a number of people who have not received full benefits of the schemes due to misutilisation of funds. Making special mention to 'Housing for All', he said a large number of people could not complete the construction of their homes despite receiving funds under the scheme. According to the records maintained by the state rural development & administration (RD&A) department, 25,011 beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana - Gramin (PMAY-G) or 'housing for all' out of 29,966 selected families in Mizoram have completed the construction of their homes which is 83.46% as of May 20. RD&A officials said the PMAY-G was launched during 2016-2017 when the fund was released in four instalments and after 2020 the fund was released in three instalments. They said the central govt has given a green signal to continue the PMAY-G til 2028-29 for which 54,588 families have been selected as beneficiaries while it is yet to be known when the fund will be given to them.
