Mizoram BJP chief slams govt for ‘misutilisation' of central funds

Aizawl: Mizoram BJP unit president Vanlalhmuaka on Monday slammed the state govt for not judiciously utilising the funds allocated for implementation of central schemes, resulting in underutilisation of central funds meant for the uplift of marginal sections of the society in the state.
Addressing party workers at 'Mipui Run' or Atal Bhavan (BJP office) in Aizawl, Vanlalhmuaka said while some people in Mizoram benefited from the central schemes launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's govt, there are a number of people who have not received full benefits of the schemes due to misutilisation of funds.
Making special mention to 'Housing for All', he said a large number of people could not complete the construction of their homes despite receiving funds under the scheme.
According to the records maintained by the state rural development & administration (RD&A) department, 25,011 beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana - Gramin (PMAY-G) or 'housing for all' out of 29,966 selected families in Mizoram have completed the construction of their homes which is 83.46% as of May 20. RD&A officials said the PMAY-G was launched during 2016-2017 when the fund was released in four instalments and after 2020 the fund was released in three instalments.
They said the central govt has given a green signal to continue the PMAY-G til 2028-29 for which 54,588 families have been selected as beneficiaries while it is yet to be known when the fund will be given to them.

The court on Thursday acquitted the seven accused - former BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur, Lt Col Purohit, Major Ramesh Upadhyay (retired), Ajay Rahirkar, Sudhakar Dwivedi, Sudhakar Chaturvedi and Sameer Kulkarni. Special judge A K Lahoti, presiding over National Investigation Agency (NIA) cases, while reading out the judgment said there was no "reliable and cogent evidence" against the accused that proved the case beyond reasonable doubt. The prosecution's case was that the blast was carried out by right wing extremists with an intention to terrorise the Muslim community in the communally sensitive Malegaon town in Nashik district. The court in its judgment flagged several loopholes in the prosecution's case and the investigation carried out, and said the accused persons deserved the benefit of doubt. "Mere suspicion cannot take the place of real proof," the court said, adding that in the absence of any evidence, the accused persons deserve the benefit of doubt. The overall evidence does not inspire confidence in the court to convict the accused. There is no reliable and cogent evidence to warrant conviction, the judge said while reading out the judgment. The court further said it was not established that the motorbike used in the blast was registered in the name of Thakur, as claimed by the prosecution. "The prosecution has proved that the blast took place but could not prove that the explosive was fitted in the motor bike," it observed. On the prosecution's case that the accused persons had attended several meetings in Bhopal and Nashik where the conspiracy for the blast was hatched, the court said no witness has supported this theory and hence, neither the meeting nor the conspiracy hatched could be proved. While there is evidence to show that money was distributed by right wing group 'Abhinav Bharat', there is no evidence to prove that the same was used to fund terrorist activities, the court observed. The money seems to have been used by Purohit for the construction of his house, it added. There is also no evidence to prove that explosive substances were transported or stored by Purohit in his house or that he had assembled the bomb, the court said.

Building Pune: Pune Metro to expedite work on extended route from PCMC to Nigdi
Pune Metro rail authorities are expediting the completion of the extended segment of the Phase One route from PCMC station to Bhakti Shakti in Nigdi, with the goal of making it operational six months ahead of schedule. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the construction of this 4.413 km-long extended stretch in March last year, but the actual work began only five months later. 'The construction of the extension stretch from PCMC to Bhakti Shakti in Nigdi began in August last year, and the civil work is going in full swing. The deadline for completing work on the stretch is 36 months from the start of actual work, but we are planning to complete it in 30 months,' said Hemant Sonawane, Executive Director, Pune Metro Rail. Sonawane said the administrative processes for laying overhead cables on the track and the mechanical work of installing escalators and lifts have begun even before the completion of civil work. 'We don't want to waste time on completing the administrative process for the works related to the stretch, so it has been done well in advance,' said Sonawane. The route from PCMC to Bhakti Shakti in Nigdi is elevated and has three stations at Chinchwad, Akurdi, and Nigdi. The estimated cost of the extended route is Rs 1,048.22 crore, which covers expenses on development of intermodal integration, stations, pedestrian bridge, system and tracks, environment impact assessment, design, depot and parking on the route. The 17.4 km Metro route from Swargate to PCMC has been made operational and has received positive response from the public. This route has been extended from PCMC to Nigdi on one end and Swargate to Katraj on the other end. However, the construction on the extended underground route of 5.5 km from Swargate to Katraj is yet to start even though it is expected to be completed by February 2029 at an estimated cost of Rs 2,954.53 crore. Additionally, the second route, measuring 15.7 km from Vanaz to Ramwadi, is also fully operational. Last month, the Central Government approved its extension on both ends — connecting Vanaz to Chandani Chowk and Ramwadi to Wagholi. These two extended elevated corridors will span 12.75 km and include 13 stations, linking fast-developing suburbs such as Chandani Chowk, Bavdhan, Kothrud, Kharadi, and Wagholi. The project is scheduled for completion within four years at an estimated cost of Rs 3636.24 crore. Meanwhile, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is developing the Metro Line-3, which will span 23 km from Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar District Court.
