BJP seeks category-wise results of JPSC Mains

Ranchi: The BJP on Saturday questioned the fairness of the results of combined civil services mains exam of 2023, which were announced earlier this week, and claimed that it did not follow quota norms. The Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) had published the results of the exam earlier after 11 months. BJP spokesperson Pratul Shahdeo said, "Articles 15 and 16 of the Constitution provide reservation benefits to SC, ST, and OBC categories. Additionally, there are provisions for reservations in EWS and other categories. However, JPSC has released the exam results in a manner akin to a lottery, making it unclear whether the reserved categories received their designated quotas and whether the process of calling more than 2.5 times the candidates for interviews was followed. " Shahdeo said the results do not mention any category as had been mandated in the exam rules which had been notified in 2023 and demanded that JPSC release category-wise data. "It is unclear whether reserved categories received their rightful share or more candidates from outside Jharkhand were selected," he said. JPSC officials did not respond to TOI's calls. BJP questions omission of reserved categories in JPSC main exam result

Ranchi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has raised serious concerns over the recently declared results of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) Civil Services Main Examination, questioning the absence of category-wise reservation details in the list of successful candidates. Addressing a press conference at the state BJP headquarters here on Saturday, party spokesperson Pratul Shahdeo alleged that the result, released nearly 11 months after the examination, lacked transparency and ignored constitutional provisions on reservation. 'Articles 15 and 16 of the Indian Constitution mandate reservation for SC, ST, and OBC categories. There are also provisions for EWS and other groups. Yet, JPSC has released the result like a lottery draw, without any category-wise breakdown,' Shahdeo said. He added that the result does not clarify whether the mandated quotas for reserved categories were adhered to or whether the standard process of calling more than 2.5 times the number of candidates for interviews was followed. Shahdeo pointed to the Jharkhand Combined Civil Services Examination Rules, 2023, notified by the Personnel Department on December 19, 2023. The rules clearly mention category-wise cut-offs and provisions for SC, ST, OBC, EBC (Annexure I), BC (Annexure II), Women, Primitive Tribes, and EWS candidates. 'Even the JPSC notification states that candidates from each category should be called for interviews at more than 2.5 times the number of vacancies, and if necessary, the cut-off marks may be relaxed. Despite this, there is no mention of any category in the published result,' he said. 'This raises doubts about whether candidates from reserved categories received their due representation,' he added. Shahdeo also questioned whether a disproportionate number of candidates from outside Jharkhand were selected, as has been alleged in past recruitment processes. He urged the state government to intervene and ensure transparency, warning that the credibility of JPSC could once again come under scrutiny if corrective steps are not taken. Built for 22 cr, Morabadi stage to be razed over design flaws

Ranchi: The Morabadi Ground stage , built in 2019 as part of a Rs 22 crore urban development project by the Jharkhand Urban Infrastructure Development Company ( JUIDCO ), is set to be dismantled following critical design flaws flagged during a recent inspection on Feb 27 by the district administration. Although the entire development aimed to modernise the space for public and ceremonial events, the stage, which was the only completed component, proved inadequate for large gatherings and state functions. The decision has triggered a political controversy, with the opposition accusing the govt of destroying state assets created during BJP tenures. Though the JUIDCO project was envisioned as a multi-use plaza for large-scale public functions, only the stage was completed. The structure, measuring 75 ft by 40 ft and featuring a tensile canopy, 11 LED screens, and Gobo lights, has proven inadequate for key events like R-Day and Independence Day. The inspection found that the canopy and its pillars obstruct visibility and the 9 ft elevation fails to ensure clear line of sight for attendees. Further, the static design prevents expansion, often forcing the administration to install temporary stages up to 72 ft ahead of the current platform, compromising space and event layout. "Based on inspection findings, it was decided that the current stage and canopy would be dismantled. Temporary, functional structures suited to individual events will replace it. Large public programmes typically require stage lengths of 80 to 180 ft, which this setup does not support," said Ranchi DC Manjunath Bhajantri. BJP's state spokesperson Pratul Shahdeo lashed out at the Hemant Soren-led govt, saying, "Why demolish a multi-purpose stage that served Republic Day, Independence Day, and several historic rallies, including two of Hemant Soren's own oath-taking ceremonies? Was this decision driven by any public demand or simply an attempt to erase BJP-era contributions?" He accused the govt of wasteful spending, especially when departments claim a lack of funds for essential schemes. Shahdeo added, "This stage was also a platform for local artists. Now the govt, instead of preserving such infrastructure, is arbitrarily tearing it down." According to the officials, future makeshift stage structures will prioritise visibility, modularity, and audience capacity to meet modern event demands.
