Moushumi Chatterjee makes SHOCKING claims about Rekha, says, 'She used to make faces, tried to replace me in...' Veteran Bollywood actress Moushumi Chatterjee, was one of the top and highest-paid stars in the 1970s. Recently, in an interview, she opened up about her not-so-cordial relationship with iconic star Rekha. She talked about the silent rivalry and emotional disconnect during their time on the sets. The two have collaborated in multiple films such as Dildar, Prem Bandhan, Mang Bharo Sajjan, and Dassi. Speaking to Filmfare, Moushumi recalled how Rekha used to think that she controlled Vinod Mehra's life. Claiming that she was jealous and insecure, the actress said, 'Rekha used to think I'm controlling Vinod Mehra's life. Because she is sitting in his house, and (Vinod's) mother used to tell me, 'Indu, Vinod ki cupboard mein se envelope nikal do' (Indu, bring the envelope from Vinod's cupboard). So naturally, she used to not like it and I used tell his mother why do you ask me, she is sitting there, you go and take it and then she used to say I don't care. I was the victim. Somehow she used to feel Vinod used to listen to me more than anybody else.' Moushumi further said that Rekha's attitude towards her wasn't always friendly. She revealed confronting her and recalled how the actress got nervous, 'She used to make faces while seeing me, as if she doesn't care. And once, I approached her and asked, 'How did you do that? Do it again, in front of me?' She got nervous. I don't know if she remembers this.' Moushumi said. Moushumi also recalled a strange incident from the sets of Prem Bandhan , when director Ramanand Sagar asked her to remove her heels for a scene to match height with her. He said, 'Woh height ka thoda… woh Rekha barefoot hai' (It's a bit about the height… Rekha is barefoot). I told him, 'I'm a padhi-likhi rich woman. I'm born and brought up that way. Why are you asking me to take off my shoes? You manage, ask her to take a stool.' She revealed that Rekha was evidently frustrated with constantly being cast in secondary roles, so, she tried to replace her. Moushumi shared, 'She got fed up playing the second woman. She insisted to Raj Khosla, 'Give me the role of Dassi, I should be Sanjeev Kumar's wife. Let her do this one.' I remember all his assistants, Sagar and others, they were laughing. He was a little high when she made that request, so he just said, 'Mereko poora story change karna padega' (I'll have to change the entire story). Which angle does Moushumi looks Tara bai?.' Meanwhile, on the work front, Moushumi Chatterjee was recently seen in the Bengali film Aarii. Directed by Jiit Chakraborty, the action drama also starred Yash Dasgupta and Nusrat Jahan in pivotal roles.

Actor Moushumi Chatterjee, who worked with Rajesh Khanna in several films such as Ghar Parivar, Anuraag, Prem Bandhan and more, has opened up about how she stood up to the superstar when he made a distasteful remark about her daughter. In an interview with Nayandeep Rakshit, she recalled how they continued to work together even after the confrontation. (Also Read: Moushumi Chatterjee says she still considers herself better person than Jaya Bachchan: 'Can't force anyone to like you') When asked about confronting Rajesh Khanna over his inappropriate comment regarding her daughter, Moushumi revealed, "People used to get angry because I was never overly bothered. They used to think, 'Chalo, time mila toh isko chedte hain' (Let's tease her if there's time), so I used to give it back. He thought that was fun. A lot of people who make nasty remarks don't realise they're actually revealing who they really are — they come from that environment. Nobody expected me to respond. But I was always like that. I never cared whether you were a superhero, super heroine, or anything else. I think as a human being. If you're super, even while working as a spot boy, you'll get a salute from me." Speaking about whether the incident created awkwardness between her and Rajesh Khanna, Moushumi said, 'I did films with him after that as well. It was never awkward between us. Raat gayi, baat gayi (The night has passed; the matter is forgotten). He also knew I wasn't an easy nut to crack.' Earlier, in an interview with Lehren Retro, Moushumi revealed that the late superstar had made a vile comment questioning whether the father of her child was her husband, Jayanta Mukherjee, or actor Vinod Mehra. She responded sharply with a similar remark, asking him, "Is it Rishi Kapoor's child or yours?" Moushumi Chatterjee is well-known for her performances in both Bengali and Hindi cinema. She began her acting career as a child artist in the Bengali film Balika Badhu (1967), directed by Tarun Majumdar. Her compelling performance earned her widespread attention, leading to a successful transition into mainstream cinema. During the 1970s and 1980s, she became one of the highest-paid actresses in Hindi cinema, recognised for her versatility and expressive screen presence. Some of her most notable films from this era include Roti Kapada Aur Makaan (1974), Angoor (1982), and Ghayal (1990), among others.

When Rajesh Khanna made an offensive joke, this Bollywood actress made sure he never messes with her again
Moushumi Chatterjee , a seasoned actress in Hindi cinema, has once again revisited a controversial moment involving the late superstar Rajesh Khanna . During the filming of Prem Bandhan, Khanna had allegedly made a disparaging comment about Chatterjee's pregnancy, questioning whether the child she was carrying was fathered by her husband Jayanta Mukherjee or by actor Vinod Mehra. In a recent interview with journalist Nayandeep Rakshit, Chatterjee opened up about the episode, revealing how she responded with boldness to a remark that many would have quietly endured. She noted that she was often underestimated, as people assumed she wouldn't retaliate. According to her, such individuals would take liberties thinking she wouldn't be bothered. 'People used to get angry because I was never bothered so much. They used to be like, chalo time mila toh isko cheddte hain, so I used to give it back,' she shared. 'He thought that is fun. A lot of people who pass nasty remarks don't realise that they are actually showing what they are. You come from that surrounding. Nobody thought I can give it back. I was always like that. I never cared if you are a superhero or super heroine or anything like that,' she said. She explained that her principles didn't revolve around fame or power, and that she respected every human being for who they are. 'If you are super, even while working as a spot boy, salute from me,' Chatterjee added, making it clear that dignity, not celebrity status, earned her respect. Response That Left the Superstar Silent In an earlier appearance on Lehren Retro, Chatterjee had revealed more details about the exchange. In response to Khanna's insinuation about her child's paternity, she retaliated by referencing Khanna's own family. 'Yes, I gave him back. I asked him, 'Is it Rishi Kapoor's child or yours?'' she had said. The directness of the remark reportedly stunned Khanna into silence. Despite the discomfort caused by the incident, Chatterjee confirmed that their professional dynamic remained unaffected. 'I did movies with him after that as well. It was never awkward between me and him. Raat gayi, baat gayi. He also distanced himself, thinking she wasn't an easy nut to crack,' she explained. Her ability to separate personal grievances from her work was evident, as the two went on to collaborate on several more films, including Anuraag, Ghar Parivaar, Vijay, and Humshakal.
