Gumla schools participate in Subroto meet

Gumla: A district-level football meet of the Subroto cup kicked off for boys on Tuesday in which many school teams, having past legacy of winning Subroto Cup International Football Championships in the past, also took part.
The current meet will end on Thursday, post which girls' tournament will begin.
Inaugurating the tournament, Gumla DC Prerna Dixit emphasized the importance of sports along with academic pursuits. "Sports instills discipline and develops team spirit. Also, it keeps one mentally and physically fit," she said. "A total 12 teams of U-14 and U-17 boys from 12 blocks are taking part to get the top spot to represent the district at state level meet later this year.
The tournament is organised by the education department," said DSE Noor Alam Khan.

Gumla: A JJMP rebel, carrying Rs 5 lakh reward, was nabbed by the district police and the Jharkhand Jaguar from a forest near Ghaghra village under the Bishunpur police station limits of Gumla on Tuesday. SP Haris Bin Zaman said, "Acting on inputs about the presence of JJMP extremists, including its chief, Ravidra Yadav, a joint team of the district police and Jaguar Assault Group (AG) 39, led by Gumla SDPO Suresh.
The nabbed ultra was identified as Firoj Ansari of Rubed village under the Jobang police station of Lohardaga district.
Ansari has 11 criminal cases against him with Jobang and Senha police stations in Lohardaga, Latehar police station, and Kurumgarh and Chainpur police stations of Gumla."
