CDOT warns next 2 days will be snowy in Colorado mountains, expect I-70 ski traffic to be heavy
President's Day Weekend is always one of the busiest weekends of the year at Colorado's ski areas, and this year snowy conditions could make it a challenging drive for Coloradans from the Front Range who are hoping to visit the resorts. The Colorado Department of Transportation warned that highway mountain driving conditions will be dangerous on both Friday and Saturday for the central and northern mountains. Snow accumulation will slow traffic down on Interstate 70 and Highway 40 through Grand County on Saturday morning as well as Saturday evening. "If you're trying to head out in the teeth of the storm, anticipate delays," said Brian Lazar, the deputy director of the Colorado Avalanche Information Center. "Have blankets, food, water in your car." Some mountain areas could see 1 to 3 feet of snow accumulate through Saturday night. CDOT says Friday and Monday "are historically the busiest days of travel with peak times" at the Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnel as follows: Friday, I-70 westbound: starting around 1 p.m. and continuing through 6 p.m. Monday, I-70 eastbound historically from 10 a.m. through 3 p.m. In the southwestern part of the state starting Thursday night through midday Friday, Highway 550 will closed between Silverton and Purgatory due to the prediction for heavy snow there. For people planning to high country, avalanche danger will be high over the weekend. An avalanche warning will be in effect on Friday and Saturday for most of the San Juan Mountains, the Elk Mountains, the Flat Top Mountains and Park Range.

Your long D.C. weekend: President's Day, V-Day, Go-Go Festival
It's President's Day Weekend, which means the annual George Washington Birthday Parade takes over Alexandria on Saturday starting at 2pm. Why it matters: The parade, now in its 102nd year, typically draws thousands of spectators and spurs a variety of Washington-themed experiences. State of play: This year's theme is "George Washington: America's Commander-in-Chief" in honor of the American Revolutionary War's 250th anniversary. Expect a flow of Freemasons, antique cars, local politicians, floats, youth groups, military units, and Washington character interpreters. Between the lines: Other Alexandria events include a " birthnight dinner" at Gadsby's Tavern on Saturday night featuring Washington scholars (tickets $150). More long weekend fun! 💞 It's Valentine's Day on Friday, and we have a rundown of last-minute ideas through the weekend that aren't super expensive or cheesy. Want to celebrate Washington's birthday AND Valentine's Day in one historically romantic swoop? Mt. Vernon hosts a V-Day tea on Saturday and Sunday ($70 per person). There's also an awesome-sounding Broadway Rave at 9:30 Club Friday (tickets $25) for musical theater clubkids. 👯♀️ And Galentine's Day! Wanna dance? Grab the gals and head to the Black Cat's Venus Party on Thursday (tickets $10) where DJ Dianamatic brings the "pink pilates pop princess" playlist vibes. Or Ciel Social Club on Friday, 9pm (free RSVP). We'd also love to sip through a boozy Galentine's tea with our besties at The Pendry on Saturday afternoon ($90 per person). Or drink lychee martinis while the ladies of Love Is Blind DC discuss D.C. dating, Thursday at 8pm (free). 👙 The annual Cupid's Undie Run for charity goes down at the Wharf Saturday. Storm Center PM Update: Trying to Rebound Later This Week
SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO) — A frigid start to the day gave way to an equally cold afternoon across KELOLAND. Another round of cold weather advisories are in place already. A cold weather advisory is in effect until 12 pm CST/11 am MST Wednesday for all our our counties along the SD/ND border as well as northwestern South Dakota. Be prepared for wind chill values dropping near and below -30 degrees at times. It'll be another cold day on Wednesday, but we do try to get the cold to ease off a bit as we head into the end of the work and school week. It won't be overly warm by any stretch, but 20s and even some 30s are possible by the end of the week. Don't get used to it, as cold temperatures return for President's Day Weekend and even a bit beyond as well. As we head toward the tail end of February, we do try to get the cold to ease off again. Though odds for below average temperatures are favored, it isn't by the same amount as it has been in recent days. In terms of active weather, we do get a few chances here and there as we go through the next seven days…though not everyone will see something each time. For example, Wednesday's chance for snow is for southeastern KELOLAND…especially near and southeast of Sioux Falls. This comes as low pressure tries to clip the region as it moves into Iowa. We aren't looking at too much snow out of this in Sioux Falls, but a few inches are possible in a line from Yankton to Spencer. Friday into Saturday has another chance for some snow showers that move through the area. We're looking at inch or less type snow from this in many areas. Monday is the next chances, and once again we'll have lower end accumulations in the cards (Inch or less). Here's a look at your extended forecast: Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
