Organisers are hoping that this "milestone" event will "build on the success of previous years" and bring the community together at a difficult time. Edinburgh Pride announces headline acts with X Factor star to hit stage

More info The organisers of Edinburgh Pride have announced their headline acts, with event details and the march route announced. For their 30th anniversary, X Factor star Diana Vickers will be leading the performances. She'll be joined by singer Kelli-Leigh, as well as RuPaul's Drag Race UK stars Ellie Diamond and O'Connor. The main event is being held on June 21, with a day of 'celebration, joy and protest' for the city. Also set to perform are local drag talents Sissy Scorpio, and Rozie Cheeks, with high-energy DJ sets throughout the day from Sylva, Darran Glasgow, and Lezzer Quest. The main stage will by hosted by Edinburgh drag queen 'royalty' Blaze. It'll all kick off from 2pm, after the march comes to an end. Pride Edinburgh ban politicians from this year's event
Pride Edinburgh is due to hold their 2025 march on 21 June through the city centre, but they have just announced that all politicians will be banned. it is customary for politicians of all parties to make impassioned speeches from the top of the Pride bus outside The Scottish Parliament before the march then proceeds up the Royal Mile and eventually to The Meadows. This year however the organisation says that it cannot have any politicians in the wake of the Supreme Court ruling on the Equality Act 2010. In a statement which you can read below the organisation says: 'The organising team is alarmed by the ongoing rollback of protections and support for the transgender community driven by those in power across both the Scottish and UK governments and political parties.' The statement continues: 'It is clear those in power and the combined voices of political parties across the UK by their silence and inaction, are not hearing the voices of our community and it would be wrong for Pride Edinburgh 2025 to give political parties a platform at our event.' © 2023 Martin McAdam Like this: Like Related

Trans women gather in topless Scottish Parliament protest against supreme court ruling

More info Transgender women held a topless protest outside of Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh on Saturday, May 17, in a show against the recent supreme court ruling on the legal definition of a woman. Around 200 protestors took part in the demonstration at Holyrood as they set out to "confront the Scottish government's failure to respond with strength and solidarity." The transgender woman stood outside parliament, topless, with red painted right arms as a show of solidarity with anti-fascist feminists in Europe, tape over their mouths to represent the censorship of trans voices in this ruling and a white rose to represent the death of transgender rights in the UK. Sign up for Edinburgh Live newsletters for more headlines straight to your inbox Sophie Molly, who took part in the demonstration and helped organise the event alongside a group of transgender women across Scotland said she felt the Supreme Court Ruling and the EHRC Interim Guidance is "a real setback for bodily autonomy" and that this ruling wouldn't just hurt transgender women, but all women. (Image: Ross Macdougal) She added: "It went really well. Lots of support for trans and non-binary people. A good turn out of around 200 people. A joyous atmosphere of resilience and determination. "We were joined by pro-Palestine campaigners. A good show of solidarity." It comes after Pride Edinburgh suspended political parties from participating in this year's pride march in response to the ruling. This year, political parties won't be invited to give the traditional pre-march speeches, political parties will not be able to have stalls at the community fair and they will not be permitted to partake in the march. Sharing this decision on social media, organisers wrote: "It is clear those in power and the combined voices of political parties across the UK, by their silence and inaction, are not hearing the voices of our community, and it would be wrong for Pride Edinburgh 2025 to give political parties a platform at our event. "Therefore, the first time in our history, Pride Edinburgh is suspending the participation of all political parties from our 2025 event."
