News 8 Primetime 585 Elite Awards: Boys bowling
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Here are the News 8 Primetime 585 Elite Award winners in boys bowling. Our small school boys winner was the top dog in his division from start to finish. He had a 211 average in the regular season, tops among Division II had a high game of 279. Our large school boys award goes to a senior who won back-to-back sectional titles… He rolled the first 300 in section five competition this season, had a high series of 802 and led all bowlers with a 240 average in the regular sectionals, he led his team to a come from behind victory to take the Class A title. He was the only division I bowler with a 200 in every game at sectionals and his 1,359 total gave him the class a individual title, winning both team and solo titles for the second straight was even better at states. His 235 average was fourth individually in the team competition and his team finished fourth the composite event, he rolled a high game of 280, second best of the day, and he helped the Section V Division I composite team win a state title. News 8 Primetime 585 Elite Awards: Boys field
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Here are the News 8 Primetime 585 Elite Award winners for boys field. Our large school boys award goes to one of the best high jumpers in the nation! This junior is his school's record holder in the high jump for both indoor and outdoor seasons. His regular season featured a 15th place finish at the New Balance Nationals. He finished 4th in the high jump at sectionals, but turned it on for the state competitions. He was first in the state qualifying event with a jump of 6-foot-9. He took that up an inch at the state finals, clearing 6-foot-10 to finish number two in New York. That height placed this athlete among the top 15 high jumpers in the country this winter. Our large school boys field athlete Elite Award winner is Beckham Taylor from Pittsford Sutherland. Our small school winner is another two-time Elite Award winter champ. This junior had a dominant regular season which featured a variety of event wins including a long jump and triple jump championship at the Virginia Showcase, which invites the best high school athletes in the country. At sectionals he won the long jump by five feet, and the triple jump by seven feet! He was first in both events at the state qualifier as well, but elected not to compete in the state championships. His long jump of 24 feet, 10.75 inches was the second-best distance of any jumper in the country. His best triple jump, at 50 feet and 8.5 inches, was number one in the country, by more than five inches. News 8 Primetime 585 Elite Awards: Girls wrestling
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – Our girls wrestling winner needed just 76 seconds at the first ever girls wrestling championship to win both of her matches by tech falls earning her outstanding honors. At the state championships she won her first match with a 10-0 tech fall then won her next three matches with pins to claim back-to-back state titles. Those pins took just a combined 66 seconds, and her semifinal match was over in 12 seconds. She finished the year with a 27-0 record. Not only was she undefeated, but not one of her opponents scored a single point on her all year. A perfect season by every definition. News 8 Primetime 585 Elite Awards: Girls hockey
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – It is time for the Primetime 585 Elite Award for girls hockey. This award winner will annually be given to the top girls player in Section V whether they play alongside the boys or on the Webster Lakers which is the area's only girls hockey team. This winner comes from the latter. Our winner is a senior defender. She was a mainstay on the blue line playing strong in her own end and helping transition into the offensive zone. While being a top defender she was also one of her team's top offensive players as her four goals were second most on the team. She is also part of her team's leadership group and is a mentor for her younger teammates. She is also an honor roll multi-sport athlete. After graduation she will attend SUNY Geneseo to play on the women's lacrosse team. The News 8 Primetime 585 Elite Award winner goes to Maddie Meyer of the Webster Lakers.
