Jeremy Piven: Entourage star labels Perth ‘meth capital of Australia' following recent visit

Best known for his work as no-filter Hollywood agent Ari Gold in HBO's Entourage, TV star Jeremy Piven has proven he hasn't quite shaken the character after labelling Perth the 'meth capital of Australia'. Attending the premiere of his latest film Primitive War in Sydney on Monday night, Piven was pushed to name his 'favourite place' Down Under after an extended period touring his stand-up show. But the comic's initial remarks were far from complimentary, at least towards the west coast. 'In the middle of my tour, we headed over to Perth, which is the meth capital of Australia... I don't know if you know that,' he told DailyMail. 'And so in the spirit of Donald Trump, I want to rename Perth, 'Merth'.' The 60-year-old performed at Mt Lawley's Astor Theatre on August 6, following an East Coast jaunt that featured stops in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane, and later Adelaide. However, after laughing off the comments, the star changed his tune and dropped his favourite local hang out. 'The reality is, I went to a cigar bar called The Social Club there and it was one of the best cigar lounges I've ever been to in my life,' he revealed. The two-time Emmy winner may have been referring to Cigar Social, a private, members-only cigar lounge in West Perth. PerthNow reached out to Cigar Social, with the venue choosing not to confirm nor deny Piven's attendance. Speaking more broadly about his stand-up tour, the actor reflected on the warm reception he'd received across the nation. 'Every stop that I had, whether it was the Enmore Theatre here in Sydney or going to Melbourne and playing Hamer Hall, they were some of the best times I've ever had in my life,' he said. 'Sold out houses... It was just incredible. I loved it.' The actor stars alongside Australia's Ryan Kwanten and Canadian Tricia Helfer in Primitive War, a horror film set amid the Vietnam War that was filmed in the Gold Coast's jungle. It follows Piven's other Aussie production Numbered Lives, a thriller shot in South Australia last year that was released nationally earlier this month.

US TV star Jeremy Piven slams Perth in wild remark during interview

Jeremy Piven poked fun at an Australian city at the premiere of his new movie on Tuesday evening. The former Entourage star, 60, has been Down Under a lot recently between filming the movie Primitive War and doing his stand-up routine in numerous Aussie cities. It turns out one in particular left a lasting impression on Piven, who suggested Perth could do with a name change. 'In the middle of my tour, we headed over to Perth which is the meth capital of Australia, I don't know if you know that,' he teased during an interview with Daily Mail. He then took aim at President's Trump recent renaming of The Gulf of Mexico, adding: 'And so, in the spirit of Donald Trump, I wanna rename Perth: 'Merth'.' Piven went on to recall his favourite places to visit Down Under, revealing that Perth wasn't that bad after all. 'The reality is, I went to a cigar bar called The Social Club there and it was one of the best cigar lounges I've ever been to in my life,' he confessed. 'Every stop that I had, whether it was the Enmore Theatre here in Sydney or going to Melbourne and playing Hamer Hall, they were some of the best times I've ever had in my life,' added the star. Piven is best known for his role in Hollywood dramedy Entourage. The actor played the Ari Gold on the HBO series from 2004 to 2011, as well as appearing in the 2015 movie. It comes after The Entourage star arrived at Nova 100's Melbourne studios for the Jase & Lauren show on Friday morning straight off his red-eye flight from Perth, and understandably, he found it hard to find his bearings. 'I just got off a plane from Perth and I don't know where I am right now, but the one thing I do know is that I think after this I'm going to retire,' he said. 'After this interview, I'm gong to end this horrible charade.' 'I just got off a plane from Perth and what's amazing is I'm on this tour,' he began, before Phillips attempted to cut him off after which he told her to 'let me just finish real quick'. 'I'm so excited to be in Australia and I'm going to all these beautiful places and all of a sudden they throw Perth in the mix and that's when everything goes off the rails. The five-and-half-hours flight will throw you off.'

US star raises eyebrows as he makes shock joke about popular Aussie city and drug use

Jeremy Piven was the star of the show on Monday night as he attended the Sydney premiere for his latest flick Primitive War. The Hollywood heavyweight, 60, has spent months Down Under filming the Aussie-made production and touring his stand-up comedy act across the country. But while raving about his time in Australia - and revealing his favourite spot - the American funnyman made an eyebrow raising suggestion regarding the renaming of a certain city. 'In the middle of my tour, we headed over to Perth which is the meth capital of Australia, I don't know if you know that,' Jeremy hilariously pointed out in an exclusive interview with Daily Mail. The acting icon then made a quip aimed at the US president, saying: 'And so, in the spirit of Donald Trump, I wanna rename Perth "Merth".' Cracking up with laughter, he shook his head, signalling his comment was simply tongue in cheek. Jeremy went on to list some of the highlights of his travels around Australia, even naming his favourite hangout spot in Merth, I mean Perth. 'The reality is, I went to a cigar bar called The Social Club there and it was one of the best cigar lounges I've ever been to in my life. 'Every stop that I had, whether it was the Enmore Theatre here in Sydney or going to Melbourne and playing Hamer Hall, they were some of the best times I've ever had in my life,' he revealed. 'Sold out houses... It was just incredible. I loved it.' On Monday night, Jeremy and his fellow castmates stepped out on the red carpet in Sydney to promote the upcoming film Primitive War. Based on the best-selling novel by Ethan Pettus, the sci-fi thriller is set during the Vietnam War in 1968. It follows a search-and-rescue team who are sent out into the jungle to recover a missing platoon, and instead find terrifying dinosaurs and an undercover mission that could mean the end of the world. With stunning special effects and a big-named cast, the movie was brought to life by Aussie director Luke Sparke, who Jeremy couldn't help but gush about. 'He dreamed so big! He made this indie film and he made it this larger-than-life, science fiction fantasy that looks like it's an eighty million dollar movie and he did it in his backyard.' He added: 'No one's doing that, so we need to celebrate this guy.' The adrenaline-fuelled film was shot entirely in Australia and predominantly on the Gold Coast, a place Jeremy 'did not want to leave'. 'Big lush beaches, the atmosphere is incredible, people are there living their best lives,' he said of the popular East Coast. Jeremy rose to fame as the foul-mouthed agent in satirical Hollywood dramedy Entourage. The actor played the acerbic character Ari Gold on the HBO series from 2004 to 2011, as well as appearing in the 2015 movie.

Jeremy Piven doesn't look like this anymore! Entourage star steps out at Primitive War premiere in Sydney sporting bold new hairdo

Jeremy Piven was showing off his updated hairdo as he stepped out at the premiere of his new film, Primitive War, in Sydney on Monday. Piven, 60, who rose to fame as the foul-mouthed agent in HBO 's satirical Hollywood dramedy Entourage, has updated his 'do with some auburn hair dye. The American actor, who previously wore his hair in straight, brown locks, now has red curls. Jeremy opted for a trendy red carpet look, looking chic and youthful in a fitted blazer over a simple black shirt. The comedian added matching trousers, along with a pair of crisp, white sneakers. He finished his look with black-rimmed glasses and a simple silver chain, as well a chunky designer watch. As well as promoting his new sci-fi thriller, Jeremy is currently Down Under on a stand-up comedy tour. He astounded breakfast radio listeners when he swore during a trainwreck interview on Nova 100's Jase & Lauren show on Friday. The popular funnyman was in the middle of describing his appreciation for Aussie audiences when, to the surprise of the Nova team, he dropped the C-bomb. 'My show in Perth, you know, sold out, unbelievable. There was only one c*** in the whole room,' he said. Host Jason 'Jase' Hawkins censored the offensive word before it could get to air, leaving Piven a little sheepish. The star, who had just made it to his early morning studio chat after taking a five-hour overnight plane from WA, asked his hosts lamely, 'You can't say that word?' 'I don't know where I am. I'm just gonna be totally unhinged,' a tired Piven joked. Trying to get the interview back on the rails, co-host Lauren Phillips made a stab at humouring her guest. 'Whose idea was this? Which publicist is gonna absolutely cop a spray for getting you in here at 6?' she joked. 'I think the publicist wanted me to have a public… complete emotional breakdown,' Piven replied, tongue-in-cheek. The actor played the acerbic Hollywood agent Ari Gold on the HBO series Entourage (pictured) from 2004 to 2011 and in the 2015 movie Elsewhere in the chat, the three-time Emmy Award winner gushed over the response he has received from local fans on his current tour. 'You know, the people here have been so good to me… if I hear an Australian accent, they're always coming over to me, and they're really kind. 'And I know I say that, it's not a mantra, it's not a cliché, it's just the truth. 'All my shows are sold out. People are smart. They get the jokes… and if you're not funny, they're going to be silent. And if you're funny, you're going to crush it.' The actor played the acerbic Hollywood agent Ari Gold on the HBO series Entourage from 2004 to 2011 and in the 2015 movie.
