Matthew Stafford missing another week of training camp in Rams concern

Matthew Stafford will not be returning to training camp next week as previously expected, according to Rams head coach Sean McVay. McVay told reporters Saturday that, despite not feeling Stafford experienced a setback, it would be 'the smart thing to do a week at a time with him.' 'I don't think we can be smart enough with somebody like Matthew [Stafford] and I think it's best for him, best for our football team, and that's kind of the plan that we'll have moving forward,' McVay said. McVay added that Stafford, 37, is still expected to start Week 1 against the Texans, saying that the 37-year-old will 'absolutely' be ready for the season opener. 'We're gonna be week-to-week with him, though. I think when you look at it, the end goal is September 7 when we open up against the Texans.' The Rams plan to keep Stafford on a modified schedule once he returns to practice, with McVay noting that the 16-year veteran 'feels really good' about the plan. McVay also added that there would be no point in rushing Stafford back to playing. 'We are fortunate to have the luxury of a player like him that, you don't minimize the importance of practice, but this is the best thing for him and our football team.' Stafford's injury concerns come after the two-time Pro-Bowler restructured his contract with the Rams earlier this year, with the Super Bowl LV champion earning $44 million for the 2025 season — all of which is guaranteed. Through 16 games played last season, Stafford racked up 3,762 passing yards along with 20 touchdowns while helping lead the Rams to a 10-7 record.

Aaron Rodgers gushes about ‘incredible' mystery wife and how she's become his ‘rock'

It appears that Aaron Rodgers is enjoying married life. Rodgers, 41, opened up on his new marriage during an appearance on NFL Network on Saturday from Steelers training camp, saying how grateful he is to have found his person. 'When you meet the right one and you're with the right one, your whole world changes in a second,' Rodgers said. Advertisement The 10-time Pro-Bowler continued to express his appreciation for his wife — whose identity remains a mystery to the public — by saying that she has become his 'rock.' 'And to have that person that unconditionally loves you behind the scenes, there's no better feeling in the world, and I've got the most incredible wife,' Rodgers continued. 'I just really love her, and I'm so thankful to have her by my side at the end. When you have that stability and that rock behind you at the house, you feel like you can do anything.' Advertisement Rodgers has not revealed any information about his new wife, and the two have yet to be seen together in public. Back in June, Rodgers told reporters that he had been married after his Steelers' contract-signing photo showed him with a black wedding band on his left ring finger. Rodgers revealed back in December 2024 that he was dating a woman named Brittani, but it's unknown if she is the woman he married. Rodgers' younger brother, Jordan, along with his wife, JoJo Fletcher, are also reportedly unfamiliar with Brittani. 'Jordan and JoJo didn't go to the wedding and don't even know anything really about Brittani,' a source previously told the Daily Mail of the couple.

New-look Bears open 2025 training camp hoping to end years of rebuilds

The Bears begin training camp at Halas Hall on Wednesday with a new coach, a new offensive line and a new sense of urgency to bring winning football to Chicago. Why it matters: The Bears have the talent to turn around a dismal decade that has been marred with rebuilds and yearly retooling. Flashback: Bears fans have heard this before. Last year, the team pushed the narrative that quarterback Caleb Williams would forgo usual rookie growing pains because the team was emerging from a two-year rebuild. Reality check: They were wrong. The team struggled with Williams under center and sputtered to a 5-12 record, leading to the in-season firing of head coach Matt Eberflus. Eberflus' on-the-field gaffes, like giving up a Hail Mary touchdown to the Commanders and mismanaging the clock in a last-second loss to the Lions on Thanksgiving, were national embarrassments. State of play: Whiz-kid and former Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson has taken over this team, which once again, has the goods … on paper. Johnson and general manager Ryan Poles made the offensive line the offseason priority, bringing in proven veterans to anchor protection for Williams. They used their top draft picks to select tight end Colston Loveland and wide receiver Luther Burden to give Williams more weapons. Between the lines: The Bears brass are hoping Johnson and Williams click, and Johnson is known for high-octane offense and clicking with his quarterbacks, so the chances are good that it will happen here. Then again, Johnson has never been a head coach before. The Bears last two head coaches without experience were Eberflus and Matt Nagy. The other side (of the ball): The defense should be improved as well. The team brought in reinforcements to help Montez Sweat on the defensive line, but it's more about keeping their young players on the field in 2025. Safety Jaquan Brisker should be back after missing most of last season with a concussion. The latest: The Bears' only Pro-Bowler, Jaylon Johnson, has been put on the injury list and will miss the beginning of training camp. The bottom line: The hype is real and the Bears are hoping to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 1985 Super Bowl team with a repeat performance.

49ers Star Comes to Defense of Commander WR Amid Online Criticism

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. During the offseason, the Washington Commanders made a big splash by trading for wide receiver Deebo Samuel. This move was initially met with hype, as the Pro-Bowler is forming a high-level WR duo with Terry McLaurin and joining forces with quarterback Jayden Daniels. However, critics have tried to dampen things after certain footage surfaced online. In the midst of minicamp, a clip went viral online of Samuel running passing routes. Many called him out for the speed he was moving around at, with others calling him out for not being in shape. As this discourse continues, one of Samuel's former teammates spoke up and came to his defense. Earlier this week, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy was a guest on the Bussin' With the Boys podcast. He covered an array of topics, including one of his top offensive weapons being traded in the offseason. Purdy even touched on what people have been saying about Samuel online, saying that such a narrative shouldn't be bought into. Deebo Samuel speaks on the De'Vondre Campbell incident on the latest episode of his Bleacher Report podcast, Cleats and Convos. You could be in a walkthrough, going half-speed and all that, and they blow it out of proportion," Purdy said. "I know when the season comes rolling around, too, Deebo is going to have a chip on his shoulder this year for sure, and he's going to be just fine." Based on how Purdy talked about Samuel in his appearance, it's clear the two built a strong connection during their time together with the 49ers. Though the wideout's numbers slowly decreased over the years, his quarterback is still a strong supporter of his abilities on the field. Unfortunately for Purdy, he now has to continue his career without one of his strongest connections. Also read: Commanders Wideout Spotted With Viral Trainer Amid Online Criticism Samuel has had to deal with countless jokes and comments being made at his expense, but he'll soon have an opportunity to lay this discourse to rest. If he can put together a strong showing in his first training camp with the Commanders, it should quickly quiet his critics. Heading into his first year with Washington, Samuel has a chance to help get the young up-and-coming team over the hump. Depending on how things unfold regarding McLaurin and his contract holdout, he could also be a prominent component of the offense to open the 2025 campaign. Between a down year in 2024 and all the criticism about him online, Samuel has all the motivation he needs to hit the ground running with the Commanders. Mac Jones opens up on his mindset as 49ers' new backup

Mac Jones is ready for the 49ers to call his number. The quarterback will back up Brock Purdy after signing a two-year, $8.4 million contract in San Francisco this offseason, and he said he's 'working hard' to be 'ready to play' when needed. 'Just continue to grow as a player and a person and a teammate,' Jones told NBC Sports Bay Area on Monday about his mindset heading into the season. 'I know it's going to take care of itself, the way I work. And they've rubbed off on me, too. Advertisement 49ers quarterback Max Jones during a practice on June 4. AP Jones is hoping his time with the 49ers can revive his career, which has been on the decline since an impressive rookie season with the Patriots in 2021. 'I'm working hard. They're working hard, and my goal is to be ready to play when I have to go in, and that's all you can ask for,' Jones added. Advertisement After three seasons in New England under Bill Belichick, the Patriots traded Jones to the Jaguars for a 2024 sixth-rounder. Jones, a Jacksonville native, backed up Trevor Lawrence last season, going 2-5 in seven lackluster starts. He completed 171 of his 262 passes for 1,672 yards, but also threw eight interceptions. 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan at a press conference on June 10. AP Advertisement The Jaguars waived Jones' fifth-year option after the season, and he signed with the 49ers in free agency from there. The chance to work with 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan seemed to be a major factor in Jones' decision to sign with the team, and the quarterback said he's been learning a lot from the 45-year-old offensive guru. 'I've obviously learned a lot in my past [from Bill Belichick] about the defensive side of the ball,' Jones said. 'But to learn more about offense and defense together has been a big benefit so far.' Shanahan has a track record of revitalizing quarterbacks' careers from his time as an offensive coordinator, helping develop Matt Schaub into a Pro-Bowler with the Texans in 2009, and guiding Matt Ryan to an MVP and Super Bowl appearance in 2016.
