Steelers quickly settle any Aaron Rodgers jersey number mystery after signing
Aaron Rodgers has already found his jersey number with the Steelers. Rodgers, 41, is set to wear No. 8 next season with Pittsburgh, the team shared in a social media post. The number previously belonged to Steelers punter Corliss Waitman, who will now switch to No. 3 for the upcoming season, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. Advertisement Rodgers previously wore No. 8 during his two seasons with the Jets after wearing No. 12 for 18 years in Green Bay. Corey Sipkin for the NY POST Rodgers, who initially agreed to sign with the Steelers on Thursday, finalized the contract Saturday, with both parties agreeing on a one-year deal worth $13.65 million, according to multiple reports. Advertisement The contract, which includes $10 million of guaranteed money, also has performance incentives that could potentially raise the amount to $19.5 million. Rodgers' signing ultimately ends a monthslong free agency saga following his departure from the Jets in February. Rodgers played in just 18 games with the Jets across two seasons after the 10-time Pro-Bowler suffered a season-ending Achilles injury during his first game with the team in 2023. Tensions were apparently high between Rodgers and Jets management amid his departure from the team, with new head coach Aaron Glenn not showing 'ample respect' during the pair's final meeting, according to the four-time MVP. Bill Kostroun/New York Post During an appearance on 'The Pat McAfee Show' in April, Rodgers said the conversation between him and Glenn was short, with new head coach 'running out of the room' to get general manager Darren Mougey. 'That was kind of strange,' Rodgers said at the time. 'I think we are going to have this long conversation. I've flown across the country, and 20 seconds in he goes and he leans to the edge of his seat and says, 'So, you want to play football?' And I'm like, 'Yeah, I'm interested.' And he was like, 'We're going in a different direction at quarterback.' 'I was kind of shocked. Not shocked because I didn't think it was a possibility, but shocked because I just flew across the country and you could've told me this over the phone.'

There's one number Aaron Rodgers unlikely to wear with Steelers
It's doubtful that Aaron Rodgers will don the No. 12 as a member of the Steelers. Although not officially taken out of use, the Steelers have unofficially retired No. 12 for legendary quarterback Terry Bradshaw, with no other Pittsburgh players wearing it since 1983. Based on Bradshaw's recent comments about Rodgers, who agreed to a one-year deal with Pittsburgh on Thursday, it is unlikely that he will lend the number to Pittsburgh's newest quarterback. Getty Images Last month, Bradshaw was brutally honest about his thoughts on Rodgers' drawn-out free agency process with the Steelers, saying how the entire courtship was 'a joke.' 'That's a joke. That to me is just a joke,' Bradshaw said during an appearance on 103.7 The Buzz. 'What are you gonna do? Bring him in for one year, are you kidding me? That guy needs to stay in California. Go somewhere and chew on bark and whisper to the gods out there.' Advertisement Bradshaw, 76, spent the entirety of his 14-year NFL career in Pittsburgh, winning four Super Bowls. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1989. Rodgers, 41, has reportedly told the Steelers that he intends to fly to Pittsburgh to sign a one-year deal on Friday so he can participate in mandatory minicamp on Tuesday, ending his monthslong free agency affair. 3 Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Terry Bradshaw passes the ball. FocusAdvertisement Details of the contract have yet to be announced. The 10-time Pro-Bowler revealed one of the reasons behind the length of his free agency was that someone close to him was diagnosed with cancer on 'The Joe Rogan Podcast' last month. 'I've been in the weeds with these people who are close to me that have cancer,' Rodgers told Rogan. 3 Aaron Rodgers reacts on the field during the first quarter of the Jets' win over the Dolphins on Jan. 5, 2025. Charles Wenzelberg / New York Post Advertisement Rodgers also opened up about the process on 'The Pat McAfee Show' in April, saying then that he was even consisering retirement. 'I'm in a different phase of my life,' Rodgers said then. 'I'm 41 years old, I'm in a serious relationship. I have off-the-field stuff going on that requires my attention. I have personal commitments that I've made, not knowing what my future was going to look like after last year, that are important to me. … I have a couple of people in my inner circle who are really battling some difficult stuff. 'So I have a lot of things that have taken my attention and have beginning in January away from football. That's been where I've been focusing most of my attention on.'

Gabe Davis meeting with Steelers after Giants visit in free agency twist
Gabe Davis' free agency tour now includes a stop in Pittsburgh. The former Jaguars wide receiver will meet with the Steelers on Thursday following a visit with the Giants last month, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Tuesday. Davis, 26, would help bolster Pittsburgh's receiving corps after the team traded star wideout George Pickens to the Cowboys in an early-May blockbuster. Advertisement 3 Gabe Davis was released by the Jaguars in May 2025. AP As it stands, the Steelers' depth chart at wide receiver includes two-time Pro-Bowler D.K. Metcalf, Robert Woods and Calvin Austin III, with Pat Freiermuth at tight end. The Steelers had eyed Dolphins tight end Jonnu Smith and engaged in trade talks with the team late last week. However, Schefter reported Tuesday the team is 'not expected to trade for' Smith, who is seeking a new deal. Advertisement A fourth-round pick by the Bills in 2020, Davis spent four seasons in Buffalo before signing a three-year, $39 million deal with the Jaguars last March in free agency. He hauled in just 20 catches for 239 yards and two touchdowns in 10 games before he suffered a torn meniscus in his left knee. The Jaguars shut him down for the season in November. Jacksonville released Davis last month. 3 Gabe Davis (13) spent the first four seasons of his NFL career with the Bills. USA TODAY Sports Advertisement The Giants have been viewed as a potential option for Davis, given his familiarity with head coach Brian Daboll as the two worked together in Buffalo when Daboll was the Bills' offensive coordinator. In his final season in Buffalo, Davis had 45 catches for 746 yards and seven touchdowns. Should the Steelers emerge as a real possibility for Davis, there's the question of who he'll be catching passes from this season. 3 The Steelers are bringing in Gabe Davis for a visit. AP Advertisement The Steelers' quarterback situation remains in flux, even as Aaron Rodgers has dropped hints about potentially signing with Pittsburgh. The former Jets quarterback remains unsigned as OTAs in Pittsburgh get underway with longtime backup Mason Rudolph taking first-team reps. Rodgers, 41, said in April he was tending to matters in his personal life before deciding on his football future. It remains to be seen if both Davis and Rodgers will be rocking the black and gold next season.
