Ex-Dolphin Raheem Mostert rips team following trade of Jalen Ramsey, Jonnu Smith: 'Be a Pro-Bowler, get treated like s***'

Raheem Mostert has candid thoughts on Monday's NFL trade that sent cornerback Jalen Ramsey and tight end Jonnu Smith from the Miami Dolphins to the Pittsburgh Steelers. He's happy for his former Dolphins teammates. But he's clearly not happy with his former team. The ex-Dolphins running back who signed with the Las Vegas Raiders in the offseason had this to say on social media: Hot take: Be a Pro-bowler on the Dolphins, get treated like sh*t. Happy for my guys though! GO BALL OUT!! The Pro Bowlers in this instance are Ramsey and Smith. The Dolphins traded both to the Pittsburgh Steelers Monday morning in exchange for All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick in a deal that also included pick swaps. Advertisement Mostert didn't expound on his displeasure with the Dolphins. But he appears to be unhappy with his own exit this offseason after three seasons in Miami that included a Pro Bowl selection in 2023. Mostert joined the Dolphins from the 49ers as a free agent in 2022 on a one-year, $2.1 million contract. After starting 14 games in 2022, Mostert re-signed with the Dolphins on a two-year, $5.6 million deal. He followed up with the best season of his career in 2023 that featured 1,187 yards from scrimmage, an NFL-best 21 touchdowns and his first career Pro Bowl selection at 31 years old. That effort earned him an extension through the 2025 season worth up to $9.1 million over two years that included $3.71 million in newly guaranteed money. Advertisement The following season, Mostert took a secondary role in the backfield to second-year standout De'Von Achane. Mostert finished 2024 with 439 yards from scrimmage after making just one start. He didn't see the second, non-guaranteed year of his contract extension. The Dolphins released Mostert in February as part of a series of veteran cuts in an effort to get under the salary cap. The move saved Miami $3.065 million in cap space. Mostert later signed with the Raiders on a one-year, $1.6 million deal, a pay cut over the non-guaranteed money he would have made had he remained in Miami. And he's clearly not pleased with how the end of his Dolphins tenure transpired.

Former Dolphins Pro Bowler blasts Miami for trading Jonnu Smith, Jalen Ramsey to Steelers

On Monday, the Steelers acquired All-Pro CB Jalen Ramsey and Pro Bowl TE Jonnu Smith in a blockbuster trade with Miami — and former Dolphins RB Raheem Mostert wasn't having it. While Mostert is excited for what's in store for Ramsey and Smith, he blasted the Dolphins over their treatment of talent. Here's what the former Dolphins Pro Bowl RB had to say on social media: "Hot take: Be a Pro-bowler on the Dolphins, get treated like sh--. Happy for my guys though! GO BALL OUT!!" Mostert's comments likely stem from personal experience as well, considering he was named to his first Pro Bowl in 2023 — only to be released by the Dolphins this past February. Mostert would sign a one-year deal with the Raiders shortly after. Mostert's trade reaction wasn't the only one to go viral, as All-Pro Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill took to social media in disappointment. Raiders RB Raheem Mostert goes scorched earth on the Dolphins after the Jalen Ramsey trade

The last couple years the Raiders added a couple former standout Miami Dolphins players. Last offseason it was top free agent signee Christian Wilkins who many were shocked the Dolphins let him go. This offseason it was Raheem Mostert who made the Pro Bowl in 2023 only to be relegated to a fraction of his previous touches last season and then also allowed to leave in free agency. Mostert watched this offseason as the Dolphins opted not to pay 2023 Pro Bowl CB Jalen Ramsey and 2024 Pro Bowl TE Jonnu Smith. And instead today trading Ramsey and Smith to the Steelers. Mostert had some strong words for his former team on their handling of their star players. "Be a Pro-bowler on the Dolphins, get treated like sh*t," Mostert said in a twitter post. He isn't lying. The proof is in front of you. It's not a good look for the Dolphins and you'd have to think prospective free agents are watching this and thinking twice about whether they would agree to go to Miami. Meanwhile their good players are happy to be going to teams and organizations that want them.

Dolphins are trading CB Jalen Ramsey and TE Jonnu Smith to the Steelers for S Minkah Fitzpatrick

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — The Miami Dolphins are sending All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey, Pro Bowl tight end Jonnu Smith and a 2027 seventh-round draft pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and a 2027 fifth-round pick. HT Image Ramsey announced the trade Monday in a post on his X account. Both his representation and the Dolphins, where he spent the past two seasons, had mutually agreed earlier this year to part ways. Neither Ramsey nor the Dolphins gave any insight into what went wrong. Dolphins general manager Chris Grier said in April that Ramsey did not ask for a trade or more money, but after weeks of conversations with Ramsey's representation, both sides agreed that it would be best to move on. Fitzpatrick returns to the team that drafted him 11th overall in 2018. He had been displeased with his role in Miami and requested a trade before being sent to the Steelers in 2019. The terms have been agreed upon and are pending physicals. The swap of Ramsey and Fitzpatrick, both three-time All-Pros, marks the third time since at least 2002 that players who had previously been All-Pros were traded for each other, according to Sportradar. The others were star receiver DeAndre Hopkins (three All-Pros) for running back David Johnson (1) in 2020, and tight end Jimmy Graham (1) for center Max Unger (1) in 2015. Smith had one of the best years of his career in his lone season in Miami after signing a two-year deal as a free agent ahead of the 2024 season. The veteran tight end hoped that his career year might lead to a new contract with the Dolphins, with whom he preferred to stay. He had been away from the team during its offseason program as he sought a new contract. Instead, he's re-joining Arthur Smith, currently the offensive coordinator in Pittsburgh, whom he was with in Tennessee and Atlanta. Smith will get a one-year contract extension worth as much as $12 million for 2026, agent Drew Rosenhaus confirmed. In the aftermath of the trade, former Dolphins running back Raheem Mostert responded to the news with apparent criticism of his former team. Mostert was cut in February by Miami after his least productive season with the team in 2024, one year after making the Pro Bowl with the Dolphins. 'Hot take: Be a Pro-bowler on the Dolphins, get treated like (expletive),' Mostert wrote on X in response to the trades. 'Happy for my guys though! GO BALL OUT!!' It's the latest in a series of retooling moves the Steelers have made this offseason in hopes that 2025 won't end similarly as their past few seasons. Pittsburgh has reached the playoffs four times in the last five seasons, only to be quickly eliminated in lopsided fashion each time. Since March, the Steelers have acquired two-time Pro Bowl wide receiver DK Metcalf from Seattle, signed four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers and now they've added two more experienced veterans in Ramsey and Smith. Trading Fitzpatrick, who emerged as one of the NFL's premier safeties in his six seasons in Pittsburgh, likely could free up money for the Steelers to re-sign star linebacker TJ Watt, who is in the last year of his deal and skipped the offseason program as he seeks a new contract. For the Dolphins, losing Smith is a huge blow to their offense, which heavily relied on the tight end in the passing game as teams limited big plays from receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. Smith's 88 receptions and 884 receiving yards last season were the most by a tight end in franchise history. The Dolphins did address a need at safety after starter Jevon Holland signed with the New York Giants in March, but they still will likely be on the hunt for a replacement for Ramsey to add a veteran to their mostly young cornerback group. ___ AP Sports Writers Will Graves in Pittsburgh and Josh Dubow in San Francisco contributed to this report. ___ AP NFL:

Former Dolphins RB Raheem Mostert rips Miami after team traded away two Pro Bowlers

One former Miami Dolphin took exception to the team trading away two Pro Bowlers to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday. In the aftermath of the Dolphins' agreement to send cornerback Jalen Ramsey and tight end Jonnu Smith to the Steelers in exchange for safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and a 2027 pick swap, tailback Raheem Mostert ripped the team, essentially once again questioning Miami's culture. 'Hot take: Be a Pro-bowler on the Dolphins, get treated like sh*t,' Mostert wrote Monday afternoon, quote tweeting a post about Smith's trade. 'Happy for my guys though! GO BALL OUT!!' Mostert spent three with the Dolphins between 2022-24 before he signed with the Las Vegas Raiders in the 2025 offseason. During his lone Pro Bowl season in 2023, he set team records for rushing (18) and total touchdowns (21) as the lead back when Miami paced the league in offensive production. A down season in 2024 came as the result of injuries. Ramsey and Smith, meanwhile, each made a Pro Bowl during their time in Miami. With Ramsey, it came during 2023, his first year with the Dolphins, when he snagged three interceptions in just 10 games. Smith's lone Pro Bowl year came in 2024 when he rewrote the Dolphins history books, setting new tight end records for catches (88), receiving yards (884) and touchdowns (eight). Mostert wasn't the first player to take a shot at Dolphins culture in recent years. Former Dolphins safety DeShon Elliott called the 2023 team 'soft as f––' during podcast interview. 'There were some guys who were tough, but the majority of the [Dolphins] were not mentally tough individuals,' the current Steelers safety said on 'The Punch Line' podcast during the 2024 season. 'So to be on a team with a full team of mentally tough guys going against a mentally tough team .... this is going to be fun.' Following a 30-17 loss to the Packers in the frozen, Green Bay tundra, the issue of softness came up again. 'I thought we were soft,' linebacker Jordyn Brooks said after the team missed 20 tackles. 'Simple as that, I thought we were soft today. I don't know if guys was too cold. ... I don't know what it was. I feel like the elements played a part in how we played as a group, and that was the result that we got.' Packers running back Josh Jacobs seemingly doubled down. 'Them boys looked cold out there,' Jacobs said, via NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe. With Ramsey out the door, the Dolphins have now lost four — Terron Armstead, Calais Campbell and David Long Jr. — of their eight captains from the 2024 season, allowing the team's new leaders to craft a culture of their own. Only time will tell whether or not the culture improves in 2025 but the early returns seem positive from coaches and players alike. 'I think there is a culture shift,' quarterback Tua Tagovailoa said June 10. 'I feel it just as much as everyone that's been here since I've gotten into the league. We always hear about, 'Man, culture shift. You guys have a change of this. You guys are doing this, always optimistic.' But I really do feel in my heart that this is a change of scenery for our guys in the locker room, and then it also transitions to our coaches as well, because we get opportunities to lead and it's not as much the coaches as it is the players I would say this year.' Added Tagovailoa: 'We have the right guys within the room, within the locker room, within the offense, and I know those guys on the defense feel like they have their guys as well. For me, I think what's most important is I've been here for five years going on six. Are you not tired of what we've done these past five years? If you are, then why aren't we doing anything about it? What do we have to change? What do we have to do to correct the navigation of where we want to go? I would say that's what it is. You create that standard in the locker room, the guys follow and you've got to uphold it.'
