2025 Honda Prologue gets ever so slight uptick in power, range

The Honda Prologue midsize electric crossover, now in its second model year, is getting a slight boost in range and muscle thanks to an upgraded front power unit. The improvements are across the Prologue lineup. Honda said the single-motor, front-wheel-drive 2025 Prologue will now have a 308-mile base range, up 12 miles. Power is now 220 hp, an increase of 8 hp, and 243 pound-feet of torque, up 7 pound-feet. Sign up for our daily First Shift morning newscast email for a quick video to start your day. Awd models now have 300 hp, a 12 hp increase, and 355 pound-feet of torque, an improvement of 25 pound-feet. Honda said all Prologues qualify for the $7,500 EV federal tax credit. The starting price for all Prologues remains the same as the 2024 model year. However, shipping charges rose $55. Pricing starts at $48,850 including shipping but before the tax credit. Prologue sales began in March 2024. Honda sold 33,017Prologues in 2024. Over half of those, 18,838, came in the fourth quarter, according to the Automotive News Research & Data Center. Honda Packs Electric Prologue With More Range And Power For The Same Price In Effort To Conquer Tesla

Honda says that its Ultium-based Prologue was the second-best selling electric SUV in America in the final quarter of 2024, so it stands to reason that making some big gains in both power and efficiency for the 2025 model year would help the already-successful model gain even more buyers. While it seems that every other car on the market is seeing increases in year-over-year pricing, Honda has kept the Prologue's base price pegged at $47,400, even with the upgrades. For the new model year the main improvement comes in the form of a newly developed front electric motor, improving both the standard FWD model as well as the dual-motor AWD equipped Prologues. In addition to extra horsepower, Honda says the new motor's increased efficiency adds up to 12 additional miles of range from the same 85 kWh battery pack. From Honda's Press release: "When the Honda Prologue quickly soared to the top of the EV sales charts as one of the best-selling EVs in America, it was incredibly reassuring to hear buyers tell us the number one reason for their purchase was their trust for the Honda brand," said Jessika Laudermilk, assistant VP of Honda National Auto Sales. "For 2025, the Prologue will have even more driving range and power, further improving its class-leading combination of attributes our key competitors can't match." Honda says the single-motor Prologue has class-leading range with 12 additional miles on the EPA cycle for a total of 308. The AWD models also benefit from additional power and range with output up to 300 horsepower and 355 lb-ft of torque. EX and Touring AWD Prologues now travel 294 miles on a charge, while the larger wheels of the Elite model reduce range to 283. All Prologue models are rated to DC Fast charge at up to 150 kW, which is kind of the bare minimum these days if I'm being honest, but quick enough if you're not always relying on public charging infrastructure. At peak charging, the Prologue will add 65 miles of range in "about 10 minutes" according to Honda. The new Prologue is fitted with a native North American Charging Standard connector, so you can take advantage of the Tesla charging network to get your road trip juice, if need be. This car is eligible for the federal $7,500 EV incentive, while it lasts. That means the base model Prologue is within spitting distance of Tesla's long-in-the-tooth Model Y on price and range. If you like the idea of an electric crossover, but either don't want a Tesla, or prefer the quality control of a Honda assembly line and a more conventional interior layout, maybe the Prologue is the one for you. 2025 Honda Prologue Gets Range Boost to a Maximum of 308 Miles

The 2025 adds a new front electric motor that adds both power and range. Front-wheel-drive Prologues now make 220 horsepower, up by eight, and all-wheel-drive variants produce 300 hp, a 12-hp increase. The front-wheel-drive versions gain 12 miles for a 308-mile range while the all-wheel-drive Prologue now maxes out at 294 miles of range. The Honda Prologue—the automaker's first dedicated EV for the United States—got off to a hot start in 2024. Despite not going on sale until the end of the second quarter, the Prologue managed to rack up 33,017 sales in 2024, making the electric mid-size SUV the sixth-biggest-selling EV in the U.S. last year. But Honda is making the Prologue more enticing for EV shoppers in 2025, implementing a new front power unit for the 2025 Prologue to both boost the power output and improve the SUV's range. The Prologue is sold with both single-motor/front-wheel-drive and dual-motor/all-wheel-drive setups. For the front-wheel-drive Prologue, the new electric motor has resulted in an eight-horsepower bump to a total of 220 horsepower. Torque is also up to 243 pound-feet, a seven-pound-foot increase. Despite being more potent, the Prologue also travels farther on a charge, with the front-wheel-drive variant gaining an additional 12 miles of range, pushing the total range figure to 308 miles. The new motor has also brought a higher output for the all-wheel-drive variants, which add 12 horsepower for a total of 300 ponies and 25 pound-feet of torque for a total of 355 pound-feet. Range has also increased, with the EX and Touring trim adding 13 miles for a 294-mile range and the Elite trim's range increasing by 10 miles to a total of 283 miles. The 2025 Prologue will start at $48,850 for the base EX model in front-wheel-drive form, only $55 more than last year. The Touring trim starts at $53,150 for the front-wheel-drive powertrain, and upgrading to all-wheel drive for the EX or Touring will see the price rise by $3000. The top-of-the-line Elite trim is available exclusively with all-wheel drive and starts at $59,350. Honda also says that all 2025 Prologues are eligible for the $7500 federal tax credit for EVs.
