Seri Kembangan folk irked by proposed building

(Seated) Liew (centre), Yap (second left) and other MCA representatives at the MCA building in Seri Kembangan. — LOW BOON TAT/The Star THE proposed construction of a three-storey commercial project at Jalan SK10/4 in Seri Kembangan, Selangor, has sparked concern among the local community. Puchong MCA chairman Datuk Liew Yuen Keong said residents found out about the project through an online advertisement. Liew said MCA was speaking on behalf of the residents and owners of over 50 shoplots in the vicinity. He said Selangor government had acquired the site in 1991 through the Petaling district Land Office under the Land Acquisition Act 1960, for use as an open-air carpark. 'Therefore, (publicity for) developing a new commercial project on that site is misleading, especially without any notice from Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ),' he said during a press conference at the MCA building in Seri Kembangan. According to Liew, the party had highlighted the matter to MBSJ on May 7 and 9 but had yet to receive a reply. Also present were Puchong MCA advisor Datuk Yap Pian Hon and Seri Kembangan MCA chairman Chin Kek Kum. MBSJ Zone 22 councillor Tey Boon Kiat said the carpark site was privately owned and not designated for public use. Neither had there been any application for land use conversion, he said. 'The Traffic Impact Assessment (TIA) for the project has yet to be completed. 'I will wait for the TIA session to discuss the issue with residents, stakeholders and MBSJ,' Tey added. ― By ALISA IDRIS
