THE proposed construction of a three-storey commercial project at Jalan SK10/4 in Seri Kembangan, Selangor, has sparked concern among the local community.
Puchong MCA chairman Datuk Liew Yuen Keong said residents found out about the project through an online advertisement.
Liew said MCA was speaking on behalf of the residents and owners of over 50 shoplots in the vicinity.
He said Selangor government had acquired the site in 1991 through the Petaling district Land Office under the Land Acquisition Act 1960, for use as an open-air carpark.
'Therefore, (publicity for) developing a new commercial project on that site is misleading, especially without any notice from Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ),' he said during a press conference at the MCA building in Seri Kembangan.
According to Liew, the party had highlighted the matter to MBSJ on May 7 and 9 but had yet to receive a reply.
Also present were Puchong MCA advisor Datuk Yap Pian Hon and Seri Kembangan MCA chairman Chin Kek Kum.
MBSJ Zone 22 councillor Tey Boon Kiat said the carpark site was privately owned and not designated for public use.
Neither had there been any application for land use conversion, he said.
'The Traffic Impact Assessment (TIA) for the project has yet to be completed.
'I will wait for the TIA session to discuss the issue with residents, stakeholders and MBSJ,' Tey added. ― By ALISA IDRIS

Focus on real progress for Sarawak, not finger-pointing over MA63, says Dapsy man

Wong King Yii KUCHING (July 26): There is a need for greater accountability and focus on real progress in addressing Sarawak's development needs and Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) rights, rather than placing blame on current federal efforts. In stating this, Democratic Action Party Socialist Youth (Dapsy) Sarawak treasurer Wong King Yii said Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap was wrong to question the significance of the federal government's efforts to reduce national borrowings. 'With respect, YB Wilfred Yap's argument that such efforts are meaningless if Sarawak continues to be sidelined seems somewhat misplaced,' he said in a statement issued in response to Yap's recent remarks. Wong said reducing borrowings from RM99 billion in 2021 to RM77 billion in 2023 was not 'meaningless', but a sign of responsible governance. 'It means less public debt, stronger investor confidence, and a healthier economy for future generations. 'If anything, this is precisely the kind of financial discipline we need to ensure there's actually money left for meaningful development, including in Sarawak,' he said. Wong said the state government, of which Yap's Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) is part of, had enjoyed decades of full political alignment with the federal government. He claimed, however, that during that time, basic infrastructure, healthcare, education, and equitable development in many parts of Sarawak, had been neglected. 'The question isn't why Sarawak is only getting attention now, it's why nothing was done before.' Wong credited the Unity Government for several key developments benefitting Sarawak, including the handover of Bintulu Port and MASwings to the state; the historic Petronas-Petros settlement; and increased annual grants under Article 112D of the Federal Constitution. 'Importantly, all of this was achieved while the federal government reduced borrowing – not increased them,' he added. Wong noted Yap's recent public comments about the MA63 and called for Sarawak's rights to be upheld, saying that Dapsy welcomed all views on the issue. However, Wong said Sarawakians rightfully expected more than just statements; rather, they expected action. 'Public expressions of concern must be accompanied by meaningful efforts, especially when the Premier of Sarawak is already actively engaged in ongoing MA63 negotiations with the federal government,' he said. Wong urged Yap to reflect not only on federal policy matters, but also on the role his own coalition in the Sarawak government could play, claiming that there had been many opportunities to act on MA63 within the state's own administration. 'Let us all do our part to move beyond rhetoric and toward real outcomes for the people of Sarawak,' he said. DAPSY lead MA63 Wilfred Yap

We're only doing our job as opposition, Sarawak DAP tells GPS

Sarawak DAP's Michael Kong said it is unrealistic to expect the government to slash new borrowings from RM99 billion to zero within one to two years. (Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA : Sarawak DAP has fired back at Gabungan Parti Sarawak assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang for condemning the party's continuous attacks against GPS, calling it an attempt to stifle legitimate dissent and scrutiny. Michael Kong, an aide to Sarawak DAP chief Chong Chieng Jen, said the party was simply fulfilling its role as the opposition and check and balance in the Sarawak assembly. 'Our duty is to represent the people, question excesses, and hold the government accountable. That is what a healthy democracy demands,' Kong said in a statement. Earlier, Lo said Sarawak DAP's repeated attacks on GPS called the government's unity into question. The Batu Kitang assemblyman said previous apologies from DAP over past offensive statements were discredited by their actions of repeatedly undermining Sarawak's leadership. Lo pointed out that DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook and adviser Lim Guan Eng had apologised to GPS over past statements by DAP leaders that offended the Sarawak government and people. He said these apologies, made before the unity government's formation, were quickly discredited by Sarawak DAP's actions. 'Sarawak DAP has done nothing but oppose GPS at every turn, questioning our policies, casting doubt on our initiatives, and repeatedly undermining Sarawak's leadership,' he said. Kong also slammed GPS assemblyman Wilfred Yap, who criticised the federal government for sidelining East Malaysia despite debt reduction by RM22 billion over the last two years. He said it is unrealistic to expect the government to slash new borrowings from RM99 billion to zero within one to two years, and that Yap's criticism 'reeks of double standards and selective outrage' 'It is deeply hypocritical for Yap to condemn the reduction of federal borrowings while applauding the Sarawak government's budgetary approach, which sees an increasing reliance on debt through its so-called 'alternative funding' mechanism,' he said. Kong also questioned Yap's criticism of the recently announced RM100 cash aid by the government to all Malaysian citizens aged 18 and above. 'Cash handouts are one of the most effective ways to directly channel financial aid to the people, particularly those in the B40 group. 'Is Yap now suggesting that programmes such as Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah should be discontinued because they are also cash handouts? 'If he truly opposes cash aid, he must also be prepared to tell the people of Sarawak that they should not receive any form of direct financial assistance,' he said.

Drainage woes at Lrg Stampin Barat 4 to be resolved with new RM250,000 RTP project

Yap (fourth left) delivers the LoA to the appointed contractor during the site visit. KUCHING (July 25): Drainage upgrading works worth RM250,000 at Lorong Stampin Barat 4 here officially commenced following the presentation of letter of appointment (LoA) to Bard Supply and Services Company. Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap, who visited the site yesterday, said the project is fully funded under his Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) 2025 and awarded through casting of lot method. Scheduled for completion by November 2025, the project aims to resolve long-standing drainage problems faced by residents, particularly those near SK Laksamana. 'This RTP project is not just about infrastructure – it fulfils a promise to improve quality of life, reduce water ponding and erosion, and protect homes from further damage,' he said in a statement. Yap added that the works involve upgrading deteriorated earth drains to permanent concrete drains, implemented through the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID). 'This will significantly improve stormwater flow, reduce flash flood risks, and enhance cleanliness and safety for residents and schoolchildren,' he said. Yap emphasised the need for timely execution and quality workmanship to minimise disruption to the community. He assured that he will closely monitor the progress of the project in collaboration with relevant agencies to ensure its successful and satisfactory completion. Also present during the site visit were DID officers and representatives from the appointed contractor. drainage lead Lorong Stampin Barat 4 RTP Wilfred Yap
