Kishan Reddy seeks CM Revanth's partnership to take up green energy plants under Coal Ministry

Union Minister of Coal & Mines G. Kishan Reddy has urged Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to partner with the Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs) under his ministry, including Coal India Limited (CIL) and NLC India Limited (NLCIL), in taking up renewable energy projects, encompassing solar and wind power plants, Pumped Storage Projects (PSP) and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). In an official communication to the Chief Minister, a copy of which was released to the media on Thursday, the Union Minister said these initiatives are projected to attract investments in the range of ₹10,000 crore to TG over the next three years. The proposals are for development of solar power plants utilising Telangana's high solar isolation zones, deployment of advanced BESS systems to enhance grid stability and energy reliability; pre-feasibility studies and implementation of PSPs to provide critical balancing capacity; and formation of joint venture models with State PSUs or on a standalone basis by the coal companies, to ensure faster project execution and maximize local economic benefits. All these proposals and projects would require support in the acquisition or allocation of land by the State Government. They would be instrumental in the reduction of carbon emissions, improved air quality, and sustainable natural resource management, he said. Mr. Kishan Reddy, also the Secunderabad MP, said that the proposals also offer substantial socio-economic dividends, including job creation, skill development, enhanced energy security, and affordable power access, driving inclusive growth and improved quality of life for all. To take these projects to fruition, he has requested that a structured and seamless coordination be established between the State Government and the CPSUs. This can be done with the Chief Minister's 'active and timely engagement' and interventions in ensuring swift and effective implementation of these projects. 'Your leadership in this matter can serve as a model for constructive Centre-State cooperation in building a greener and self-reliant future,' he said. Telangana's substantial renewable energy potential and the Central Government's unwavering commitment to green growth, offers an opportunity to accelerate the State's economic development and position the State as a key contributor to India's sustainable energy transition, he pointed out.

Union Minister Kishan Reddy writes to Telangana CM on tie-up for renewable energy projects

Hyderabad: Union Minister G Kishan Reddy has written to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, stating that Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs) under the Ministry of Coal are ready to partner with the state government to implement key renewable energy projects. In his letter on July 16, Kishan Reddy said that PSUs such as Coal India Limited (CIL) and Neyveli Lignite Corporation India Limited (NLCIL) are prepared to collaborate with Telangana on projects including solar and wind power plants, Pumped Storage Projects (PSPs), and battery energy storage systems (BESS), which are expected to attract investments of nearly ₹10,000 crore over the next three years. These projects would play a vital role in reducing carbon emissions, improving air quality, and ensuring sustainable natural resource management, the letter said. They also promise significant socio-economic benefits, such as job creation , skill development, enhanced energy security, affordable power access, inclusive growth, and an improved quality of life, it added. "To bring these projects to fruition, I request that a structured and seamless coordination mechanism be established between the state government and the CPSUs. Needless to say, your active and timely engagement will be instrumental in ensuring the swift and effective implementation of these projects," the union minister further said. Given Telangana's considerable renewable energy potential and the central government's strong commitment to green growth, this collaboration presents an opportunity to accelerate the state's economic development and position it as a key player in India's sustainable energy transition . The developmental synergy between the central and state governments is critical to achieving long-term national priorities such as energy security and climate resilience, while also fostering economic well-being and growth, Kishan Reddy noted.

Pralhad Joshi inaugurates BESS in Bengaluru; ₹5,400 cr additional VGF coming soon

Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy , Pralhad Joshi , on Friday inaugurated a Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) manufacturing facility in the Bidadi Industrial Area, Bengaluru. With an annual manufacturing capacity of 5 GWh, this facility stands as one of the largest and most advanced BESS plants in the nation. The newly inaugurated facility has a fully automated cell-to-pack assembly line, signaling a move towards precision-driven, high-quality production with minimal human intervention. This advanced manufacturing capability is expected to significantly contribute to grid stability, facilitate renewable energy integration, manage peak demand, and aid in frequency regulation. During the inauguration, Minister Joshi emphasised the critical role of reliable energy storage in achieving India's ambitious target of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030. "As more renewable energy comes into our grid, having reliable storage is more important than ever," he stated. Further demonstrating the government's commitment to energy storage, Minister Joshi announced plans to roll out an additional ₹5,400 crore as viability gap funding (VGF) to support the establishment of 30 GWh of battery storage systems. This new allocation comes on top of the existing ₹3,700 crore under the current VGF scheme, which has already facilitated the implementation of 13.2 GWh of BESS projects. "As India rolls out the VGF scheme for battery storage and works with stakeholders across sectors to grow the storage market, having world-class manufacturing like this will be very important," the minister remarked. "It will help meet rising demand, reduce imports, and make our power grid more efficient. Our renewable capacity is growing fast: we are adding 25–30 GW every year." Highlighting the immense potential of the sector, Minister Joshi cited the India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA), which projects the country's energy storage sector to attract a staggering ₹4.79 lakh crore investment by 2032. Furthermore, the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) estimates a project requirement of 411.4 GWh of energy storage systems by 2032, comprising 175.18 GWh from Pumped Storage Projects (PSP) and 236.22 GWh from BESS. "I believe that India can become a global manufacturing hub for BESS, from batteries and inverters to software and control systems," Minister Joshi added. "Between 2022 and 2032, India plans to add over 47 GW of battery storage capacity, with a total investment of around ₹3.5 lakh crore."
