Two police officers, three fire brigade personnel from Pune awarded President's Medal
TWO POLICE officers currently posted in Pune and three, including an officer and two personnel from the Pune fire brigade, have been awarded the President's Medal for meritorious and distinguished service on the eve of Independence Day. In a rare distinction, Rajendrasinh Gaur, recently posted as Deputy Superintendent of Police with Pune Rural, has been awarded his second President's Medal. In 2018, he was awarded the President's Medal for meritorious service and has now been awarded it again for distinguished service. Gaur, who was earlier posted as Assistant Commissioner of Police with Pimpri Chinchwad police, also won awards at the Police Training Academy before joining Maharashtra police. He has been posted in Latur, Hingoli, Solapur police and Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS), among key appointments. Assistant Sub Inspector Sanjay Shirsath, currently posted with the Economic Offences Wing, has been awarded the President's Medal for meritorious service. In his career spanning over 32 years, Shirsath has received a total of 291 awards and commendations for exemplary work. As part of his current posting, Shirsath has been instrumental in the investigation and filing of chargesheet in five sensitive cases. Station Duty Officer Subhash Jadhav, Fire Engine Driver Ramchandra Gosavi and Fireman Chagan More have been awarded the President's Medal for meritorious service. All the three fire personnel have been part of several high risk and sensitive operations of the Pune Fire Brigade in the past.

Labourers, including children, rescued from sugarcane farm
Fourteen people, including children and women, were rescued from a sugarcane farm in Alegaon Paga in Shirur taluka, where they were being forced to work without pay. They had to endure beatings and were not allowed to go home. Police have filed a case against the owner of the farm, Sandeep Dubey, who had allegedly held the labourers captive from January 1, 2023 to July 30, 2025. (REPRESENTATIVE PHOTO) On Wednesday, the district administration, labour department, and Pune Rural police rescued all the individuals from the farm and sent them to their native place in Sambhajinagar district. Police have filed a case against the owner of the farm, Sandeep Dubey, who had allegedly held the labourers captive from January 1, 2023 to July 30, 2025. The workers, who are residents of Brahmagaon village in Paithan taluka, were brought to the farm by a contractor. They were allegedly locked inside the farm and made to work day and night. They were told that they owed money to the owner and, hence, cannot leave until the amount was paid back to him. The young children were forced to work in the cattle sheds and the house. When the workers requested permission to go home, they were beaten and denied food and water. The labourers finally managed to contact a child protection group. The group informed government officials and police, who quickly arrived at the farm and rescued all 14 people. Sandesh Kenjale, police inspector at Shirur Police Station, said, ' We followed all procedures, rescued them, and sent them to their native places. We have filed an FIR against the accused and issued a notice to him to appear for further investigation.' Police have filed a case against the farm owner under sections 115(2), 126(2), 131, 351(2), 351(3) of the BNS and sections 9,16 and 17 of the Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Act, 1976.

4 Bangladeshi nationals arrested for illegal stay, possessing fake documents
Pune: Four Bangladeshi migrants were arrested from a house at Karegaon near Ranjangaon MIDC in Shirur taluka late on Friday night. Acting on a tip-off, a team of Pune Rural police raided the house and nabbed the illegal migrants — Kamrol Ramzan Shaikh (32), Aklash Shaikh (39), Mohammad Abdulla Malik (35) and Zahid Abubakar Shaikh (30). They were in possession of fake Aadhaar cards. Pune rural superintendent of police Sandeep Singh Gill said, "The arrested illegal migrants have been staying in India for the past two years." They did odd jobs in Karegaon and adjoining areas. A case of forgery and cheating was registered against them with the Ranjangaon police. The police also invoked charges under the Indian Passport Act against them. The police said the illegal migrants crossed the border two years ago. They came from West Bengal to Pune by train with the help of agents. The latter gave the arrested people fake and fabricated Aadhaar cards, the police said. An officer said they were probing how the four men managed to stay in rural areas of the district by changing their identities. He said they were in touch with their family members in Bangladesh over phones.

Elderly couple attacked, grocery shop robbed, cops suspect gang
1 2 Pune: A 70-year-old woman ended up with a fractured leg and her husband (75) was also injured after three men barged into their house and attacked them with iron rods before fleeing with 60g of gold jewellery worth Rs3 lakh at Kathapur village in Ambegaon taluka, about 77km from the city, in the early hours of Saturday. A case related to armed robbery and similar other charges was registered by the Pargaon police in rural Pune. The police are investigating the likely involvement of a gang that committed another robbery at Ale Phata a day before to this incident. Assistant inspector Netaji Gandhare of the Pargaon police said the elderly couple, Ganesh Jadhav and his wife, Kamal, were residents of Ganesh Vasti in Kathapur. The three men entered their house by breaking the grilles of a window at the backside. They woke up the couple and tried to snatch the woman's gold jewellery. "When the victim started resisting them, the trio thrashed her with iron rods. Kamal Jadhav's leg suffeerd a fracture in the attack. They also thrashed her husband with the iron rod, causing injuries to his back," Gandhare said. He said the men then snatched Kamal's gold jewellery worth Rs3 lakh and fled. The police found a chappal and a pullover near the victim's house. "Teams from Pargaon police and the local crime branch have begun investigations. We have collected CCTV footage from different locations. Our investigations are on," Gandhare said. Cops probe gang angle A day before, four men abducted the security guards of a wholesale grocery shop in Ale Phata, and later their accomplices made off with Rs50,000 from the counter and cigarettes worth Rs2.2 lakh from the shop. The shopowner lodged a complaint with the Ale Phata police. An officer from the Ale Phata police said four men reached the complainant's shop in the early hours of Friday. They forced the security guard into their car, covered his eyes with a cloth and continued to drive. They brutally thrashed the guard and later abandoned him at Bota village in Sangamner taluka in Ahilyanagar district. "Their accomplices broke into the shop and made off with cash and cigarettes, collectively worth Rs2.7 lakh. The theft came to light after the guard called the owner," the officer said. An officer from the Pune Rural police's crime branch said the police were investigating if the same gang was involved in both cases. "We have started collecting CCTV footage and working on some clues," he said.

Pune Rural police to plant 10,000 saplings during palkhi
Pune: The Pune Rural police has decided to plant 10,000 saplings of local varieties along the palkhi route at police headquarters, police stations, open govt plots, palkhi halting spots, and other locations with the help of district forest officials. "We have already started the drive and planted 1,000 saplings at Pune and Baramati police headquarters," said Pune Rural SP Sandeep Singh Gill. "The decision was taken to plant saplings of neem, banyan and mango, among others under the state govt's Harit Wari (Green Wari) initiative," Gill said. "Constables and beat marshals, with the help of local villagers, will take care of the saplings," he said. Additional superintendents of police Ramesh Chopade and Ganesh Biradar distributed saplings to police stations across the district. On June 22, Pune Rural police will receive the palkhis of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Sant Tukaram Maharaj at Zendewadi near Dive Ghat and Uruli Kanchan on Solapur highway. "We have identified the spots to plant the saplings. Our teams, along with district forest officials, will plant saplings on govt lands and at villages where palkhis take an overnight halt," Gill said. The shops will be allowed to open as both palkhis progress further. Traffic diversions Heavy vehicles heading towards Pune from the Solapur highway have been diverted to the Pune-Nagar highway, while the vehicles heading towards Pune from Baramati have been diverted to the Pune-Satara highway. Vehicles heading towards Mumbai from Solapur have been diverted towards Ahilyanagar, from where they can reach Ale Phata on Nashik highway. GPS to help police divert traffic The Pune city police have installed GPS on palkhis of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Sant Tukaram Maharaj to monitor their live location and divert vehicular movement on the city roads accordingly.
