SAD president
warmly welcomed Joshi, referring to the senior leader as his "younger brother". "We have a bond spanning two decades. It gives me immense happiness that Joshi decided to rejoin in the interest of Punjab and Punjabiat," said Badal, emphasising the need to restore "peace and communal harmony" in the state.
Highlighting the importance of strengthening regional parties, Joshi said that only they "understand and make their programmes and policies as per the aspirations of Punjabis".
He lauded the SAD's consistent safeguarding of Punjabi interests and expressed confidence in its continued representation of all societal segments.
Joshi also highlighted the "pro-development and pro-poor policies" of the erstwhile Parkash Singh Badal government, as well as the "rapid infrastructure build-up", including expressways and the international airport, under Sukhbir.
Joshi, who served as a cabinet minister in the SAD-BJP govt after winning the 2007 Amritsar assembly elections on a BJP ticket, first joined SAD in 2021. He had resigned from the party a few months ago but remained unaligned until now.
In a related development, Sukhbir also announced the induction of Gurdeep Singh Rana Dang, brother of former jathedar Harbhajan Singh Dang. Rana Dang had contested the last municipal elections as an independent.
