Rockies expected to call up LHP Carson Palmquist
reporter Thomas Harding is reporting that the Colorado Rockies will likely promote LHP Carson Palmquist (No. 9 PuRP) to start tomorrow night's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The move is not confirmed, but it comes after Ryan Feltner was placed on the Injured List with back issues, and the Rockies have struggled to get length out of their healthy rotation members. Although Bradley Blalock took Feltner's place in the rotation during his last outing, the game did not go well. Advertisement Palmquist, who was scheduled to start tonight for the Albuquerque Isotopes, was pulled from the lineup, another indication that a move is forthcoming. Currently in seven starts for the Isotopes, Palmquist has a 3.72 ERA. He has pitched in 35.1 innings with 45 strikeouts, 18 walks, and a 1.13 WHIP. As Jeff Aberle wrote in February, 'Palmquist has a low, funky arm slot and has utility as both a starter and reliever.' His arsenal boasts a fastball, slider, and changeup with the evaluators at Baseball Savant noting, 'His fastball averages only around 91 mph, but it misses more bats than it should thanks to carry up in the zone from that lower slot. He'll actually throw two different kinds of sliders — a big sweepy one in the upper 70s and a slightly harder, cutter-ish one, both of which can miss bats. His low-80s changeup is also effective and hard to square up.' This would mark the sixth promotion by the Rockies so far in the 2025 season. Advertisement The move will require the Rockies to make a place for him on the 40-man roster. In addition, Tyler Freeman and Aaron Schunk may be activated tomorrow as well, so be looking for additional roster changes. ★ ★ ★ This is a developing story and Purple Row will provide updates as they become available. ★ ★ ★ Please keep in mind our Purple Row Community Guidelines when you're commenting. Disabled craftsmen make batik bags for Asean 2025
This afternoon, the Colorado Rockies announced a series of roster moves: The promotion of Carson Palmquist (No. 9 PuRP) was not unexpected based on reporting yesterday from Thomas Harding. The return of infielders Tyler Freeman (oblique injury), Aaron Schunk (groin injury), and Ezequiel Tovar (hip injury) moves the Rockies closer to becoming the team they had hoped to be when the 2025 season opened though Thairo Estrada continues to recover from a wrist injury. Sean Bouchard and Anthony Molina both return to Albuquerque. In 72 plate appearances, Bouchard is slashing .169/.250/.246 (29 wRC+). Molina, meanwhile, was brought into relieve an exhausted bullpen. He has pitched one inning for the Rockies. Owen Miller and Alan Trejo were designated for assignment. During the offseason, the Rockies traded for Miller from the Milwaukee Brewers. In 17 plate appearances, he has slashed .143/.294/.143 (29 wRC+). Trejo is familiar to Rockies fans. The Rockies traded for him with the Texas Rangers when their inventory of middle infielders was completely depleted. Since returning to the Rockies, Trejo has slashed .175/.190/.225 (-2 wRC+). Notably, second baseman Adael Amador will remain with the Rockies, presumably until Thairo Estrada has fully recovered. The Rockies have one open spot on the 40-man roster. ★ ★ ★ Please keep in mind our Purple Row Community Guidelines when you're commenting. Thanks!

Colorado Rockies game no. 35 thread: Casey Mize vs. Kyle Freeland
Despite plenty of opportunities to win the game, the Colorado Rockies (6-29) couldn't capitalize in the series' first game against the Detroit Tigers (23-13) on Wednesday. Now, they gear up for a twin bill on Thursday with a tough opponent on the mound in Game 1. Kyle Freeland (0-4, 5.70 ERA) has had a rough go to start the season but has been keen on giving the Rockies some much-needed innings in the rotation. He has gone at least six innings four times through his first seven starts, and has failed to go five full innings just twice. Advertisement He is coming off one of his better outings when he allowed three runs on seven hits over six innings in San Francisco. He is still pounding the zone and limiting walks while picking up a handful of strikeouts while scattering a good number of hits. His last start at Coors Field was a forgettable one as he allowed six runs on 10 hits in 4 1⁄ 3 innings. The Tigers will counter with former number one pick, Casey Mize (5-1, 2.70 ERA). It seemed for a time that Mize may not live up to the hype when he was drafted by the Tigers first overall in 2018, but he has continued to settle in over the years since his debut in 2021. This season, he is off to a fantastic start, showcasing why he was highly coveted by the Tigers when they drafted him. Through his six starts, Mize has worked into the sixth inning in all of them, allowing one or fewer runs in four of them. He has two outings in which he allowed four runs, including his most recent, but he has still worked deep into ball games. Like Freeland, he will be in the zone and scatter hits while picking up a handful of strikeouts. However, opponents are hitting just .226 against him. Rockies select contract of Nick Martini, option Zac Veen to Triple-A
Photo by Caitlin O'Hara/MLB Photos via Getty Images This morning, the Colorado Rockies announced the following roster moves: Colorado Rockies Announce Roster Moves (23 March 2025) The decision to sign Nick Martini is not surprising based on his spring training performance and the Rockies preference for veteran players. In 45 plate appearances, he has 14 hits, including two home runs. Although he suffered a minor injury last week that resulted in some arm soreness, it is not expected to affect his play. Advertisement The decision to start Zac Veen (No. 4 PuRP) in Triple-A Albuquerque is puzzling, given his spring training performance. In 57 at-bats, Veen has 17 hits, including two home runs and nine stolen bases. That number ties him with David Hamilton (Red Sox) for the most stolen bases in spring training. Sending Diego Castillo (4.50 ERA), Aaron Schunk, and Aaron Nola to Albuquerque was unsurprising given that these players have not made notable spring training showings and may provide depth later in the season. In making these moves, the Rockies have also ruled out using Owen Miller to help address the hole in the lineup created by Thairo Estrada's broken right wrist. In light of yesterday's trade that sent Nolan Jones to the Cleveland Guardians for INF/UTIL Tyler Freeman, there was speculation that perhaps the time had arrived for Veen to make his MLB debut, but this morning, the Rockies indicated they believe he would benefit from additional time in Triple-A. Advertisement It appears, then, the Rockies will go with an outfield lineup of Jordan Beck, Brenton Doyle, and Sean Bouchard with Nick Martini and Sam Hilliard providing backup while Freeman and Kyle Farmer split second base/utility duties. This story will be updated as additional details become available. ★ ★ ★ Please keep in mind our Purple Row Community Guidelines when you're commenting. Thanks! More from
