Over 23 lakh took holy dip during Saraswati Pushkaralu

Hyderabad: Over 23 lakh people had a sacred bath during the Saraswati Pushkaralu, which ended on Monday at Kaleshwaram in Bhupalpally disrtict. More than one lakh people had a bath at the Triveni Sangam in Kaleshwaram on each of the 12 days with pilgrim rush peaking during the weekends. Endowment department officials and others heaved a sigh of relief as the event passed off without any untoward incident. The state government had put in place massive arrangements to ensure the success of the Pushkaralu. To bring it on par with the Kumbh Mela, the government allocated Rs 35 crore exclusively for the event. Incidentally, a team of officials, led by Secretary Shailaja Ramaiyar, had visited Prayagraj for a first-hand feel of the arrangements. This helped the state administration to come up with a meticulous planning, said a senior official from the endowments department. The official said that Pushkaralu started on a grand note with around one lakh taking a bath on the first day on May 15. The rush of pilgrims increased thereafter with the weekends drawing two to 3.5 lakh people. There was a traffic jam of over 20 km on the weekends. The official said that the Harati program on the banks of the river was a major attraction during the Pushkaralu. Artists from Kashi were specifically roped in for the Harati program, which was watched by around 47,000, including Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. Meanwhile, the pilgrims also visited the Sri Kaleshwara Mukteswara Swamy temple. Approximately, 2.68 lakh laddus were distributed by the temple authorities, who also arranged for medical camps, which was taken advantage of by around 80, 000 people. The official informed that among the other works, sanitation and hygiene were given priority. Over 950 sanitation workers were deployed for cleaning the premises near the river, while about 33 NDRF and 66 SDRF personnel, 100 swimmers and 35 Singareni rescue team personnel were also deployed at the bathing ghats to prevent instances of drowning. Also manning the area were around 1600 police personnel.

Telangana college dropout becomes a role model for unemployed

BHUPALPALLY: In an inspirational story of resilience and innovation, R Madhu, a civil engineering dropout from Jookal village in Chityal mandal, Jayashankar Bhupalpally district, has discovered a path to financial independence through self-employment. His innovative venture, which he set up at Kaleswaram during the Saraswati Pushkaralu, a 12-day spiritual festival held from May 15 to May 26, at the Triveni Sangamam has cast the spotlight on the power of micro-enterprises in transforming rural livelihoods, particularly for women's SHGs. Madhu was forced to leave his civil engineering studies due to financial difficulties. However, he was undeterred. He began looking for ways to earn a livelihood. Inspired by the potential of low-cost, high-demand food products, he purchased an electric machine for Rs 50,000 which can roast and boil corn. With this equipment, he set up a stall at the Pushkaralu, where he sold a variety of corn-based snacks, which became an instant hit for their taste, affordability, and quick preparation. His stall became a standout success, earning him Rs 50,000 in profits during the 12-day event. Madhu's business model has since proved sustainable, generating a steady monthly income of Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000, showcasing the viability of micro-enterprises in rural areas.

Grand Triveni Harathi huge draw of Pushkarulu

BHUPALAPALLY: As part of the Saraswati Pushkaralu celebrations, the highlight at Kaleshwaram has been the grand Saraswati Navaratna Mala Harathi performed at the Triveni Sangamam. To conduct the river Harathi with traditional precision, scholars were specially invited from Kashi. These priests from Kashi conducted the Harathi at the Triveni Sangamam every evening since the start of Pushkaralu, captivating devotees with the ritual. In Kashi's Ganga, one would usually have to witness the Harathi from boats floating over the water, but the geographical advantage in Kaleshwaram makes it different. The riverbank spans nearly 3 to 4 kilometers, leaving a vast sandy area, apart from the water flow, where devotees can stand freely and observe the Harathi without any additional cost. Both distinguished guests and general devotees gathered in large numbers to witness this sacred event, with the district collector Rahul Sharma making necessary arrangements for seamless viewing. Every night, the Harathi lasted for over an hour, keeping devotees enthralled and encouraging them to remain at Kaleshwaram. The enthusiasm is evident, as many devotees begin their journey back home only after experiencing the Harathi, demonstrating how deeply it has been embraced. On Sunday, Yogananda Saraswati Swamiji performed the Pushkara Snanam, marking the occasion with spiritual fervor. Minister Seethakka, MP Gaddam Vamsi Krishna, MLA Gandra Satyanarayana Rao, and CMO Secretary Srinivasa Raju.
