The New Base Audi E-Tron GT Is Still Plenty Powerful and Quick
It's been nearly a year since Audi gave its electric sedan a mid-cycle update. Ingolstadt initially focused on the hotter S and RS variants, but now an entry-level version has joined the lineup. Visually distinguishing the base model is no easy task, as Audi chose to keep the design essentially unchanged. The most noticeable tweaks include more black accents up front and the absence of S/RS badging at the rear. Despite being the base trim, this E-Tron GT still features Quattro all-wheel drive, with one electric motor on each axle. Audi quotes a combined output of 496 horsepower or 577 hp with launch control. That's enough EV muscle to propel the car from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in a brisk four seconds flat. Compared to the sportier S model, which shares the battery pack, the new base version is about 66.1 pounds (30 kilograms) lighter. Still, it tips the scales at a hefty 5,200 lbs (2,359 kg). In Audi's defense, the curb weight includes a 165-lb (75-kg) driver. Photo by: Audi The 97-kWh battery (net capacity) provides up to 386.5 miles (622 kilometers) of range under the WLTP cycle. Even in its most affordable form, the E-Tron GT supports ultra-fast 320-kW charging. Under ideal conditions, you can add 177 miles (285 kilometers) of range in just 10 minutes. A 10 to 80 percent top-up takes only 18 minutes, assuming you can access a compatible charger. So, what do you lose by opting for the entry-level model? It's 0.6 seconds slower in the sprint and sacrifices 93 horsepower compared to the S. On the upside, it gains nearly 12 miles (20 kilometers) of range, thanks to the dialed-down electric motors and slightly lower weight. The base E-Tron GT in Germany starts at €108,900, undercutting the S by a significant €17,100. Interestingly, Porsche's Taycan 4 is still slightly cheaper at €107,300, and the single-motor, rear-wheel-drive Taycan begins at an even lower €102,600. Pricing for the United States hasn't been announced yet, but with the S model retailing from $126,795 (including destination), the base E-Tron GT is still expected to carry a six-figure sticker price. For reference, a 2026 Taycan 4 with zero options costs $106,450, or you can stick to the standard rear-wheel-drive model and pay Porsche $102,550. 2025 Audi E-Tron GT base model 9 Source: Audi Catch Up With Audi: The New Audi A6 Plug-In Hybrid Has a Decent Electric Range The New Audi RS5 Sounds Pretty Darn Good Get the best news, reviews, columns, and more delivered straight to your inbox, daily. back Sign up For more information, read our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use . New Audi A6 PHEV brings up to 69 miles of electric range for £56k
Audi has added a plug-in hybrid variant to its new A6 range, bringing up to 69 miles of electric-only driving. Joining the recently launched Audi A5 plug-in hybrid, it is one of 10 new PHEVs to be launched by the German brand across its line-up in 2025. The PHEV powertrain, which it shares with the A5, is centered around a 2.0-litre turbo petrol four and delivers 295bhp for a 0-62mph time of 6.0sec. It's exclusively sold in the UK in four-wheel-drive Quattro guise. Outside of the UK, a more potent 362bhp variant with 369lb ft of torque is also offered with a 0-62mph time of 5.3sec. Electric power is drawn from a 25.9kWh (gross) battery, up from the previous generation's 17.9kWh, offering 66 miles of range in the Avant and 69 miles in the more slippery saloon. The pack can be charged via a maximum AC current of 11kW or via regenerative braking, with levels selected via paddles behind the steering wheel. The new A6 Avant arrived in March and the new A6 saloon in April with turbo petrol and turbo diesel hybrid power, joining the technically unrelated A6 E-tron EV duo. The ICE cars were due to take the A7 moniker but this move was cancelled close to launch. As such, to differentiate the variants, A6s are badged TFSI (for petrol), TDI (diesel), e-Hybrid (PHEV) or E-tron (electric). UK pricing for A6 PHEVs has yet to be announced. In Germany, they've gone on sale at €65,800 (£55,890) for the saloon and €68,300 (£58,014) for the Avant. UK order books will open in early June, with deliveries set to begin in September.

The New Audi A6 Plug-In Hybrid Has a Decent Electric Range
The new A6 hasn't even gone on sale in the United States yet, but Audi is already expanding the lineup in Europe. Both the sedan and wagon are now offered as plug-in hybrids based on a four-cylinder engine. A major upgrade over the previous PHEV version is the battery, which now has a net capacity of 20.7 kWh, or about 45 percent more than before. That translates to a solid electric range, potentially enough to handle daily driving without using the engine. These upscale PHEVs can travel up to 66 miles (106 kilometers) on a single charge in the combined cycle before the combustion engine kicks in. Stick with the slightly lighter sedan, and Audi says you can get up to 69 miles (111 kilometers) in the city. The quickest way to deplete the battery, mounted under the rear section, is to drive on the Autobahn at the electronically limited 87 mph (140 km/h) in EV mode. With the engine running, the plug-in hybrid A6 can hit 155 mph (250 km/h). Photo by: Audi Two versions are available: one with 295 hp and another with 362 hp. If those figures sound familiar, it's because the new A5 plug-in hybrid has identical outputs. The two models are closely related, both riding on the Premium Platform Combustion. Logic tells us that PPC could also underpin Porsche's upcoming gas-powered Macan successor , which is expected later this decade. The base A6 PHEV makes 332 lb-ft (450 Nm) of torque and does 0–62 mph (100 km/h) in six seconds flat. Step up to the more powerful version and get 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) and a sprint time of just 5.3 seconds. If you want something quicker, a V-6 3.0-liter mild-hybrid model does the job in 4.7 seconds. Of course, the upcoming S6 and RS6 will be even faster. The plug-in hybrid is the wise choice for those prioritizing efficiency and want to move on from diesel. Audi has increased AC charging capacity to 11 kW, enabling a full charge in just two and a half hours. Both PHEVs have rear-wheel steering, a dual-clutch automatic transmission, and Quattro all-wheel drive. The 141-horsepower electric motor is integrated into the seven-speed S Tronic gearbox's housing. Audi says full torque is available 'at close to idle speed,' helping these models get off the line effortlessly. 2026 Audi A6 plug-in hybrid 31 Source: Audi The electrified A6 is significantly quieter than its predecessor, thanks to a 30 percent increase in sound insulation. The same improvements apply to conventionally powered versions, which now get acoustic glazing on the rear-side windows and tighter door and window seals. Additional noise reduction comes from foam rings in the tires on cars equipped with 19-inch wheels and larger. Audi also reworked the engine and transmission mount bushings and optimized the shape of the gear teeth to reduce mechanical noise. In Germany, the A6 Sedan E-Hybrid starts at €65,800 for the base model and from €68,300 for the more powerful version. The more practical A6 Avant E-Hybrid begins at €75,050 and €77,550, respectively. That price gap between the two power levels also reflects added standard equipment like S Line trim inside and out, larger wheels, a sport suspension, and red brake calipers. Deliveries in Europe begin this summer. People are only just realising what the iconic Audi logo actually means
No matter your level of interest in vehicles, Audi is a brand that most are familiar with. The automotive giant has stood the test of time for over a century and sports an easily recognisable emblem. Yet, despite the frequent sight of an Audi on our roads, many remain unaware of what its iconic rings represent. The question, in fact, sparked curiosity on Reddit when one person enquired about the meaning behind the Audi emblem. The query attracted a host of replies, with car enthusiasts chiming in with various theories. One individual explained: "The four Audi rings signify Audi, Horscht, DKW and Auto Union. These were four companies that were combined after WW2 because they were all going out of business alone." Another suggested: "Old 'Quattro GmbH' badge, which was the old name of the company that is now known as 'Audi Sport'. So this is pretty much the predecessor of the S-badge you get on the steering wheels of S-line models of newer cars. "If it was a S model, like a S2 back then, the left of the silver bars would say 'S' and the right would say '2'." What many might not realise is that the Audi crest goes beyond being just an aesthetic logo. It's a symbol rich with the brand's identity, principles and narrative. Beyond its sleek design, the Four Rings of Audi encapsulates the brand's storied heritage and its evolutionary journey. A statement from Audi Great Neck reveals: "In the early 1930s, a groundbreaking collaboration among four distinguished German car manufacturers – Audi, DKW, Horch and Wanderer – led to the birth of Auto Union AG. "This alliance was forged to combine resources and expertise, enabling them to thrive in the fiercely competitive automobile industry. The Four Rings emblem emerged as the physical embodiment of this unity. "Each ring represented one of the four contributing companies, a testament to their combined endeavors and shared ambitions." While the emblem centres on the concept of unity, it has evolved subtly over time to keep pace with evolving trends in the automotive sector. Regardless of these changes, the core message of unity has always been maintained. It's commonly noted that the brand consistently achieves a fine blend of tradition and modern flair within its emblem. Furthermore, Audi Great Neck states: "Beyond its surface elegance, the Four Rings emblem conceals a profound symbolism nestled within each ring. Audi's ring signifies progress and innovation, DKW embodies ingenuity, Horch represents luxury and Wanderer embodies the spirit of exploration. "When brought together within the emblem, these meanings combine to define Audi's multifaceted character. As years have passed, the Four Rings emblem has grown to be synonymous with Audi's commitment to excellence. "It has graced vehicles that achieved remarkable feats, from triumphant victories on racetracks to groundbreaking technological advancements. The emblem also proudly adorned Audi's iconic Quattro all-wheel-drive system, cementing the brand's reputation for exceptional performance."
