Former CJI urges reasearch and innovation to boost India's global ranking

Former Chief Justice of India (CJI), N.V. Ramana, called upon the engineering graduates to focus on research and innovation to help India secure a top position in the Global Innovation Index (GII). Addressing the 37th graduation day of R.V.R. & J.C. College of Engineering, Chandramoulinagar-Chowdavaram, on Saturday, he expressed concern that only 10 per cent of India's 1.5 million engineering graduates secure jobs annually, with the IIT placement rates also declining. Mr. Ramana stressed the importance of both mother tongue and English proficiency, and praised the college for blending quality education with cultural traditions. Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) Chairman K. Madhu Murthy urged the students to convert challenges into opportunities under the 'Vision Andhra 2047' framework. A total of 1,023 and 153 postgraduate degrees were conferred, along with gold medals to top performers. College president Rayapati Srinivas presided over the event, attended by faculty, students, and other dignitaries.
