Orlando Pirates news: Saleng, Mofokeng, Moremi, Martin
Orlando Pirates have an eventful few months before the 2025/26 campaign ignites. The upcoming offseason window could make the difference in achieving league and Champions League glory; it's a time when not only are they on the hunt for stars, but they're also looking for Jose Riveiro's successor. The latter will be hard to replace, someone who revolutionised the club through his youthful approach, winning five trophies in three years. However, it shouldn't insinuate that finding a suitable candidate can't be done. Former AmaZulu FC coach Pablo Franco Martin is the latest name to be linked with the Orlando Pirates. 'There have been talks between Pablo Franco Martin and Orlando Pirates,' an inside source revealed. 'An offer has been made but he is not the only coach the club is looking at and there are other candidates. He is very interested in the Pirates job, and he has since parted ways with the club he was coaching in Saudi Arabia despite being made an offer to increase his salary to renew his contract.' Tshepang Moremi is one of the most sought after players in the league. The uSuthu star has Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs and Pirates vying for his services. Meanwhile, youngster Relebohile Mofokeng has several foreign suitors trying to lure him – offers are expected throughout the winter window. Egyptian giants Zamelek FC had a R25.8 million bid rejected earlier this year. Forgotten winger Monnapule Saleng appears to be nearing an exit following a near six-month hiatus, however, no clubs are yet to show interest. Orlando Pirates seem to have given up on the Bloemhof-born star Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211. Orlando Pirates news: Mbokazi, Saleng, Mofokeng, Amankona
Orlando Pirates have several stars on the verge of being poached abroad. Alongside former PSL Player of the Year Patrick Maswanganyi, star defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi, Monnapule Saleng, and Relebohile Mofokeng are among those linked with moves abroad. The former has already received a R25.8 million bid from Zamalek FC, while city rivals Al Ahly, Jose Riveiro's new club, are eyeing teenager Mbokazi. Regarding Monnapule Saleng, the jury is still out as to whether he will stay or go. However, having not featured since early December, the assumption is that it will be the latter. According to reports, Ghana Premier League leading goalscorer Stephen Amankona is being offered to the PSL's big three – Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns. 'Stephen's contract is ending soon and this is a great opportunity for him to explore new challenges. He's been introduced to a few clubs in South Africa and there's been some interest. The big teams are being considered seriously.' Sekhukhune defender Vuyo Letlapa and Orlando Pirates target could be heading overseas amid OGC Nice interest. 'There are local teams which have shown interest and Pirates were believed to be in the forefront to sign him but apparently the French Ligue 1 side OGC Nice is the one leading now,' Soccer Laduma noted. 'They are very close to closing the deal. Remember, we spoke about European interest before. And just like they did with Elias Mokwana to Esperance de Tunis, they are including a 30% sell on clause to the next club agreement on the deal.' 'So, if Nice sells Vuyo then Sekhukhune United will get 30% from that deal. That's why they are looking at R20m for now.' Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1. Orlando Pirates news: Mofokeng, Saleng, new coach?
Orlando Pirates will likely discover their PSL fate today as Mamelodi Sundowns, one point away from clinching the title, head to Buffalo City Municipality Stadium to face Chippa United. It's been a difficult few weeks for the Soweto giants, who have seen Jose Riveiro ask to leave early following Champions League and Nedbank Cup heartbreak – more sour news could ensue in the offseason. Relebohile Mofokeng has several giants lining up for his services, including Zamalek FC, who had an R25.8 million bid rejected in January, and Al Ahly, who recently welcomed Riveiro. The latter insinuates the Egyptian giants' chances of signing the Bafana youngster to be elevated. Mofokeng has enjoyed a remarkable rise under Riveiro's command and may follow him to Cairo to maintain development. Monnapule Saleng's professional career has derailed since his exile in December. Severe question marks surround his future at the club, which seems all but finished. A new chapter, perhaps in a different country, is the right move. Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates have yet to name Riveiro's successor but are reportedly monitoring Rulani Mokwena and Pitso Mosimane, among others. Yesterday's game was Riveiro's 301st and last game for Orlando Pirates, who made sure to honour the Spaniard in style. 'They took care of me since day one and still do. Now that I am leaving, they care about me. I am thankful person, so this is something that I really appreciate and I will never forget,' Riveiro said after the Golden Arrows game. 'I will never coach any other team in South Africa. I am a Buccaneer and Orlando Pirates is the only club I could have the motivation and courage, energy and heart to coach in South Africa.' Orlando Pirates to loose Relebohile Mofokeng after Nedbank Cup upset?
Seven days after securing three points against Kaizer Chiefs in the league, Orlando Pirates were humbled by their bitter rivals as they watched match winner Yusuf Maart lift the Nedbank Cup last Saturday. It was the Buccaneers' second heartbreak in the last three weeks after suffering Champions League elimination at the hands of Pyramids FC. Orlando Pirates have experienced several purple patches throughout the season, winning their first eight league games, but will struggle to look past their late-season anguish. Adding more fire to the rage is their league defeat to Sekhukhune United on May 1, while Mamelodi Sundowns have continued their fine form and now look like a lock for an eighth successive PSL title. It could be a few months to forget for the Soweto giants, who are on the brink of losing several stars, including Relebohile Mofokeng. Earlier this year, Orlando Pirates rejected an R25.8 million bid for the golden boy, a sign of what's to come as several foreign suitors begin lining up. In fact, Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos believes his exit is imminent, saying, I think his parents want the best for him, that's for sure. But there is another guy who wants to win a lot of money also, but that's the problem. But ok, let's hope, maybe I talked too soon about that. 'We'll see. I think in June, Rele will not be a player of Orlando Pirates anymore, but a good choice is very important.' Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1. Why Orlando Pirates risk losing Relebohile Mofokeng
Orlando Pirates phenom Relebohile Mofokeng has been head and shoulders above the rest with his silky skills and veteran-like composure. Following a breakout 2023/24 season, the 20-year-old has lived up to the hype with twenty-three goals and assists this season, including seven in eleven Champions League outings, highlighting his world-class potential. A superstar in the making, Mofokeng has hardly put a foot wrong this campaign, seducing several foreign suitors, including Egyptian giants Zamalek FC, who had their R25.8 million bid rejected earlier this year. Although a move never materialised, the offer should come as a warning sign to Orlando Pirates, who will undoubtedly have many giants of the game after his services. Other clubs linked with the starlet include Al Ahly, Barcelona, and Glasgow Rangers. Amplifying the exit murmurs is Bafana boss Hugo Broos, who believes it will be Mofokeng's last season with Orlando Pirates. 'Talking about Mofokeng, I just hope that he makes the right decisions. And that he is not going to a team where he won't play,' Broos predicts. 'I see all the things around, Barcelona and Rangers and… (sighs) I'm a little bit afraid. I just hope that the people around make the choice of the best sportive solution and not the best financial solution. 'Okay, I think his parents want the best for him, that's for sure. But there is another guy who wants to win a lot of money also, but that's the problem. But ok, let's hope, maybe I talked too soon about that. 'We'll see.
