GSFL 2025: Perfect 10 coaches votes for Michael McGlade in Royals narrow win, Darcy Wallinger leads overall

Royals midfielder Michael McGlade picked up a perfect 10 in his first polling of the season in the Great Southern Football League coaches votes on Saturday. McGlade was a unanimous choice as best-on-ground by the two coaches, in the Lions tense four-point win over Denmark-Walpole at McLean Park . The Lions, who have won two games in a row, picked up most of the votes from the game with Declan McNamara and Seb Stanton also polling well. It was the first votes for McGlade in the 2025 GSFL Coaches Player of the Year Award. McNamara continued his strong season with seven votes and Stanton received four while Nelson Tulip and Ryan Hick from the Magpies got three each. Mt Barker gun Darcy Wallinger remains in the outright leader of the award, having picked up more votes in round five of the season. Wallinger (26 votes) holds a three-vote advantage over his teammate Daniel Patching, while Railways' Ryley Valli and Bulls' Darcy Clarke are just one vote further back. Patching and Clarke were highly influential in the Bulls' 38-point win over North Albany at Collingwood Park . The pair picked up nine votes each while Kangas midfielder Matt Orzel added five votes to his tally. Wallinger and Bulls forward Brandon Ugle collected three votes. Opinions were split in the top-of-the-table clash as the Tigers won by 60 points over Albany at Retravision Stadium . Eight players received votes from the coaches with only Lachie Cale and Logan Stubber featuring for both coaches. Young Tiger Cale picked up seven votes while Sharks' Bailey Taylor, Stubber and Tigers ruck Shane Braimbridge all got five. Just six votes separate the top six players on the leaderboard with McNamara (21) and Sharks' Bryce Blaszkow (20) well within striking distance. Cale joins teammate Jayden Scott on 19 and closely followed by Isaac Baum (18) and Orzel (17). Each league coach votes 5-4-3-2-1 for players on both sides at the end of every game. 2025 Coaches' Player of the Year Award Voting Round 5 Albany v Railways 7 Lachie Cale (RAIL) 5 Bailey Taylor (ALB) 5 Logan Stubber (RAIL) 5 Shane Braimbridge (RAIL) 3 Declan Willey (RAIL) 2 Bryce Blaszkow (ALB) 2 Ryley Valli (RAIL) 1 Bodhi Stubber (RAIL) Denmark-Walpole v Royals 10 Michael McGlade (ROY) 7 Declan McNamara (ROY) 4 Seb Stanton (ROY) 3 Nelson Tulip (DW) 3 Ryan Hick (DW) 2 Joel Flick (ROY) 1 James Charlesworth (DW) North Albany v Mt Barker 9 Daniel Patching (MB) 9 Darcy Clarke (MB) 5 Matt Orzel (NA) 3 Brandon Ugle (MB) 3 Darcy Wallinger (MB) 1 Regan Christensen (NA) Leaderboard 26: Darcy Wallinger (MB) 23: Daniel Patching (MB) 22: Ryley Valli (RAIL) Darcy Clarke (MB) 21: Declan McNamara (ROY) 20: Bryce Blaszkow (ALB) 19: Jayden Scott (RAIL) Lachie Cale (RAIL) 18: Isaac Baum (ALB) 17: Matt Orzel (NA) 15: Taj Williams (ALB) 13: Seb Ballard (MB) Hayden Parker (RAIL) 12: Tyler Stone (DW) Kobi Keen (NA) 11: Kane Pinney (ALB) 10: Sam Holmes (ALB) Michael McGlade (ROY)

GSFL 2025: New leader in coaches votes award as McNamara and Parker pick up perfect 10s in Belt-Up Round

Declan McNamara and Hayden Parker scored perfect 10s in the Great Southern Football League Coaches Player of the Year Award in Belt-Up Round at the weekend. Mt Barker star Darcy Wallinger has taken the outright lead in the coaches' votes after four rounds of the new season, sitting three votes clear of last year's winner and Kleemann Medallist Ryley Valli. McNamara received the Belt-Up Round match ball after a dominant midfield display in Royals' narrow win over North Albany at Retravision Stadium on Sunday, picking up five votes from each coach. The Lions gun moved inside the top 10 on the leaderboard and he sits just nine votes behind Wallinger. Parker booted 10 goals in a brilliant game up forward as Railways thumped Denmark-Walpole at Keep The Sheep Stadium. He received the Belt-Up Round match ball as well and was unanimously judged best on ground, with 10 votes propelling him up the leaderboard as well. In the other round four fixture, Bulls ruckman Keane Griffiths received the Belt-Up Round ball from the umpires and picked up eight coaches votes in the process as his side beat the Sharks by five points at Sounness Park. Sharks' Isaac Baum and Wallinger picked up seven votes each in that game to continue their strong seasons thus far. Railways' Jayden Scott is third overall ahead of Sharks pair Bryce Blaszkow and Baum and just five votes separate the top five on the leaderboard. Blaszkow and Scott lead with 18 votes, followed by last year's winner of the award and Kleemann medallist from Railways Ryley Valli (17 votes). Mt Barker's Darcy Wallinger (16) has enjoyed a terrific start to the season, and then a trio are next on 13 votes — Albany's Taj Williams and Bulls pair Daniel Patching and Seb Ballard. Denmark-Walpole's Tyler Stone (12) and Albany duo Kane Pinney (11) and Isaac Baum (11) round out the top 10 on the leaderboard. Valli picked up nine votes in the Tigers' big win on Anzac Day, and Williams scored a perfect 10 in the Sharks' opening-round win. Michigan recovery support organization turns to community after federal funding cuts

Recovery Advocates in Livingston (RAIL) in Southeast Michigan says its federal government funding has been cut. Now, the organization is turning to the community to help those in need. Matthew Barton, a RAIL coordinator, tells CBS News Detroit that the funding cut was abrupt but not entirely unexpected. "(It was) terrible news because it is definitely a large part of our funding structure," said Barton. He said RAIL was receiving funding from American Rescue Plan dollars. However, the Trump Administration cut billions of dollars in March, which is a significant blow to the recovery house they run in Howell. RAIL is asking for donations to keep its sober house open in the coming months. An anonymous donor has offered to match donations up to $20,000. "The stop work order will definitely put the house in jeopardy," said Barton. The house is still up and running, just on a month-to-month basis, with money from Community Mental Health Services of Livingston County. "These women need stability; they need to be able to focus on their recovery and their sobriety," Barton said. "So to have in the back in their mind the fear that they could be homeless is just something we don't want to put them through." The recovery house has six beds and it's staffed 24/7 for support. Barton estimates each bed costs about $500 a month. "No matter what happens in Washington or in Lansing, these women's lives continue in Howell," he said. "They still have to get up every morning, put their foot forward, realizing they want to be sober and they want to better their lives, and they need the support."
