PT Resources invests RM17mil in China coconut processing plant
PETALING JAYA: PT Resources Holdings Bhd , a processor and trader of frozen seafood products, has established a coconut processing facility through an investment of RM17mil in the designated special economic zone known as China-Indonesia Food Industrial Park located in Fuqing, China as part of the move to broaden the company's food-processing capabilities. The new facility, which will start operations by the middle of this month, will produce a wide range of value-added products such as frozen coconut water, frozen coconut milk, desiccated coconut and other derivatives, capturing the complete potential of the coconut fruit. PT Resources managing director Heng Chang Hooi said in a statement: 'We are optimistic about the growing demand for coconut-based products in China, supported by its large population of 1.4 billion, rising interest for plant-based diets, and increasing demand for dairy alternatives. 'The popularity of coconut milk in coffee chains and specialty beverage outlets reflects this trend'. The facility would initially focus on supplying frozen and dried coconut products to business-to-business (B2B) customers such as food and beverage (F&B) manufacturers within Fujian province and nearby regions, as the province, a key importer and processor of mature coconuts, serves a wide network of F&B manufacturers within a 700-km radius. Heng said the company 'is actively exploring B2B collaborations with Chinese distributors and manufacturers, including opportunities for private-label production and OEM services as part of our localisation strategy. 'We also aim to leverage on Fujian's export infrastructure to access Asean markets and will participate in trade exhibitions such as the China Food and Drinks Fair.' He added that the company 'is also in the process of securing consistent supplies of mature coconuts from Indonesia – one of the world's leading coconut producers. 'These arrangements will ensure a steady supply of coconuts to meet the anticipated demand'.

MACC to probe Land and Minerals Dept
KUALA LUMPUR: Graft busters will investigate land encroachment in Pahang, especially in Raub, by focusing on the management aspect of the Land and Minerals Department (PTG). Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki (pic) said the investigation into land encroachment started in 2021. 'Given the new issues that have emerged, we will resume the investigation. We will investigate how the land encroachment was allowed to occur. 'We will investigate aspects of governance practised by PTG,' he told reporters after attending the graduation ceremony for participants of the Certified Integrity Officer Programme yesterday. Pahang Sultan Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has often spoken out against land encroachment. The Ruler said yesterday that action must be taken against those who encroached on state land. 'Don't allow anyone to encroach on Pahang's land. It is time we take firm action against them (intruders). 'Protect this land, the land of Pahang, to the best of your ability,' said Sultan Abdullah during a Hari Raya celebration in Jerantut, according to the Kesultanan Pahang Facebook page. Previously, an enforcement operation at a durian farm in Raub led to farmers voicing their dissatisfaction over the destruction of their crops. The Pahang government has denied violating a court order when it felled around 200 Musang King durian trees during the enforcement operation in Sungai Klau, Raub on April 8. On another case, Azam said the MACC is expected to submit the investigation paper on Ops Sky to the deputy public prosecutor next week. He said the investigation, which was focused on corruption and money laundering involving a financial consulting firm and officials from multiple financial institutions, had already been completed. 'I hope the DPP will expedite making a decision on further action to be taken on the case if there are no queries (on the investigation paper),' he said. In January, Ops Sky led to the arrest of 12 people and the seizure of 4,000 documents, with 98 bank accounts frozen, amounting to over RM17mil.

MACC's forensic report on alleged Sabah corruption scandal almost complete
KUALA LUMPUR: The forensic analysis report on 10 new video recordings linked to an alleged corruption scandal involving several Sabah assemblymen over mineral mining licensing is expected to be completed soon. Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said a detailed analysis was currently being conducted on all 10 video recordings. "I expect the report to be ready soon as the forensic team is carrying out a thorough examination of all 10 recordings," he said at a press conference after attending the 11th Certified Integrity Officers Convocation 2025 at Dewan Tun Dr Ismail, World Trade Centre (WTC) here on Tuesday (April 22). He said eight individuals had so far been called to give their statements, including a new case involving allegations linking the Sabah State Assembly Speaker Datuk Seri Kadzim M. Yahya. Azam had earlier stated that MACC's forensic lab was analysing the 10 latest videos related to the case and he had instructed that the analysis be expedited. He said analysis of eight earlier videos revealed elements of enhancement, editing and other alterations, rendering them lacking in credibility as evidence and therefore inadmissible in court. According to Azam, the 10 new videos are longer in duration but must be reviewed for signs of editing, frame breaks doctoring, and superimposition, with attention also paid to the accompanying audio. In 2024, a news portal reported on several video recordings allegedly showing state assemblymen receiving hundreds of thousands of ringgit in exchange for supporting a company's project application in a state. On the progress of Ops Sky, which involves a corruption and money laundering syndicate linked to bank officers and financial consultancy firms, Azam said the investigation papers would be submitted to the Deputy Public Prosecutor next week. "The investigation papers for Ops Sky have been completed and are being finalised. They are expected to be submitted to the DPP for review next week," he said. In the Ops Sky operation conducted in January, MACC successfully dismantled a corruption and money-laundering ring involving financial consultancy firms and bank officers at several financial institutions. The operation, led by MACC's Anti-Money Laundering Division in collaboration with Bank Negara, resulted in the arrest of 12 individuals in raids at 24 locations, including houses and offices in the Klang Valley. To date, 27 individuals have been arrested, comprising 18 bank officers, eight staff from the involved consultancy firms, and one member of the public. All were later released on MACC bail. The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner said the investigation, on the operation, targeting corruption and money laundering involving a financial consulting firm and officials from multiple financial institutions, has already been completed. "We will submit the investigation paper to the DPP next week. "I hope the DPP will expedite making a decision on further action to be taken on the case if there are no queries (on the investigation paper). "We hope it will be expedited as the rakyat wants to know a decision and development on the case," he told reporters after attending the graduation ceremony for participants of the Certified Integrity Officer (CEIO) programme on Tuesday (April 22). It was previously reported in February that the MACC was finalising its investigation into 'Ops Sky'. Azam had said the probe is expected to conclude within a month, after which the findings will be submitted to the Deputy Public Prosecutor. "To complete the investigation, the MACC plans to interview an additional five to 10 witnesses, including bank officers, employees of the consulting firm, new borrowers, and individuals from related organisations Azam emphasised the importance of these testimonies, particularly from bank officers, to clarify specific procedures and ensure a comprehensive understanding of the case.
