WCE Net Loss Lower At RM25.33 Mln In 1Q FY2026

BUSINESS KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 (Bernama) -- WCE Holdings Bhd's net loss was slightly lower at RM25.33 million in the first quarter ended June 30, 2025 (1Q FY2026), compared to a net loss of RM25.86 million in the same period a year ago. The company reported in a Bursa Malaysia filing today that its revenue jumped to RM393.85 million in 1Q FY2026 from RM75.57 million previously, driven by increased construction activity and higher toll collection following recent sectional openings. 'Revenue for construction for 1Q FY2026 increased by 710 per cent compared to 1Q FY2025, mainly due to higher construction activity in respect of the rest and service areas (RSAs) construction and remaining sections of the West Coast Expressway. 'The group achieved higher toll collection revenue for 1Q FY2026, an increase of 61 per cent compared to 1Q FY2025, mainly due to higher traffic volume after the opening of the additional sections,' it said. Meanwhile, it said subsidiary WCE Maju Sdn Bhd undertakes the group's construction activities -- revenue for construction for 1Q FY2026 increased by 230 per cent compared to 1Q FY2025, mainly due to a higher level of construction activity during the period. On prospects, it said that as at March 31, 2025, eight out of 11 sections are already operational, covering 180 kilometres (km) across Selangor and Perak. 'Notably, the entire Perak alignment (120 km) is now fully completed,' it said. According to WCE, construction for the final three sections namely, Section 3 (KESAS - Federal Highway Route 2), Section 4 (Federal Highway Route 2 - New North South Klang Straits Bypass (NNKSB) and Section 7 (Assam Jawa - Tanjong Karang) is currently ongoing. 'The group is expected to incur losses in the early years of toll operations due to the cessation of capitalisation of interest expenses for completed sections.

WCE Holdings narrows losses, sees multifold revenue increase in Q1

KUALA LUMPUR: WCE Holdings Bhd's net loss in the first quarter narrowed to RM25.3 million from RM25.86 milion in the same period last year. This was due to interest costs for completed sections amounting to RM57.6 million, WCE said. The company's revenue surged multifold to RM392.8 million in the quarter ended June 30, 2025 from RM75.67 million a year earlier. This was supported by higher construction activity under both the concession and construction segments, particularly in rest and service area works and Sections 3 and 7 of the West Coast Expressway (WCE). Its earnings were further supported by higher toll collections, following the opening of additional sections in Selangor — Sections 1 and 2 — which began toll collection in September 2024 and June 2025 respectively. WCE's earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation for the quarter stood at RM33.4 million, an 84 per cent improvement from RM18.1 million last year, reflecting continued operational profitability. The toll division remained the main revenue driver, surging to RM360 million from RM65 million a year earlier, with toll collection revenue rising 61 per cent due to traffic volume after the opening of Sections 1 and 2. Meanwhile, construction revenue under WCE Maju Sdn Bhd jumped to RM33.56 million from RM10 million, reflecting heightened project execution during the current period. In a statement, WCE said the expressway project involves the development of a 233km tolled highway from Banting, Selangor to Taiping, Perak, including 40km of highway to be constructed later. It is a build-operate-transfer project with a concession period of up to a maximum of 60 years effective from Dec 20, 2013. Currently, eight out of 11 sections are already operational, covering 180km across Selangor and Perak. The entire Perak alignment (120km) is now fully completed. "The group anticipates that continued ramp-up in toll collections will further strengthen cash flows and operating results. "In the long term, full completion of the WCE is expected to drive revenue growth beyond financing costs, enabling a transition to sustained profitability," WCE said. WCE Maju is currently executing projects with a combined contract value around RM800 million. These include access works from WCE to a mixed development in Kota Seri Langat, Section 7B (10km) from Assam Jawa Interchange to Tanjung Karang Interchange and construction of 10 rest and service areas along the WCE.
