Rise Of Foreign Digital Economy? Google Buys Land In Port Dickson Worth RM455 Million
It's no secret that Malaysia might be the land of new development, as our country's political stance with foreign investors booms with every diplomatic visit. With Malaysia being one of the top destinations for luxury home buyers in China, where does this put us with mega corporations looking to develop in the country? Gamuda Bhd, one of Malaysia's largest engineering, property and infrastructure companies, has just sold 389 acres of land in Port Dickson to Pearl Computing Malaysia Sdn. Bhd, a Google affiliate company, for RM455.23 million. The land, which was bought by Gamuda back in December 2024, will be used as a major data centre project. Despite handing the land to the Google affiliate company, The Edge Malaysia reports that Gamuda will still be actively involved in the development of the site, worth RM1.1 billion, undertaking enabling works, which include external infrastructure and earthworks. The development includes a new water treatment plant and an off-river storage facility to ensure a steady water supply during the dry season and to reduce pollution risks. The support of the infrastructure and engineering company's expertise will not only speed up construction with precision manufacturing but also reduce risks and ensure quality and cost control, making Gamuda Bhd a key partner in the growing sector of the digital economy. The land sale is expected to be finalised by the end of 2025 once all conditions are met. Is Malaysia looking at the boom of development in the digital sector? Gamuda shares climb after RM1.5b land and works deal with Pearl Computing for massive data centre push
KUALA LUMPUR, May 6 — Gamuda Bhd shares rose today after indirect subsidiary Gamuda DC Infrastructure Sdn Bhd (DCI) entered into contracts to dispose of 157.42 hectares for RM455.23 million and undertake works worth RM1.01 billion with Pearl Computing Malaysia Sdn Bhd. At 10.41 am, the counter rose 1.0 sen to RM4.39 with 3.55 million shares changing hands. In a Monday Bursa Malaysia filing, Gamuda said the earthworks are expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2025 (3Q 2025), followed by the water treatment plant (2Q 2027) and off-river storage (4Q 2028). The agreements encapsulated the company's one-stop solution for the fast-growing data centre sector, delivering top-to-toe land development, including civil works, utility connections, and water infrastructure, to deliver a ready-to-build platform for hyperscale clients. 'This one-stop model leverages the company's core engineering expertise and next-generation industrial building system, which accelerates structural delivery with off-site precision manufacturing,' it said. Meanwhile, in a note, Kenanga Investment Bank Bhd viewed the deal positively as it marks the beginning of a large-scale data centre development with an estimated total construction value of up to RM20 billion. 'Given Gamuda's direct involvement in the land deal and infrastructure works, it is well-positioned to secure future data centre contracts,' it said. — Bernama

Gamuda inks RM1.46bil deals for land disposal, data centre works
KUALA LUMPUR: Gamuda Bhd, via its indirect subsidiary, Gamuda DC Infrastructure Sdn Bhd (DCI), has entered into contracts to dispose of 157.42 hectares of land for RM455.23 million and undertake enabling works worth RM1.01 billion with Pearl Computing Malaysia Sdn Bhd. In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, Gamuda said the land is located in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan. It said DCI would then undertake enabling works on the land for Pearl Computing's data centre development, including earthworks and external infrastructure works. "The external infrastructure works consist of a new water treatment plant with a total production capacity of 65 million litres per day; pipelines connecting the water treatment plant to the service reservoir of the data centre development and off-river storage to ensure sufficient water yield during the low season and mitigate against any pollution," it said. Gamuda said the earthworks are expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2025 (3Q 2025), followed by the water treatment plant (2Q 2027) and off-river storage (4Q 2028). It said the agreements encapsulated the company's one-stop solution for the fast-growing data centre sector, whereby Gamuda delivers top-to-toe land development, including civil works, utility connections, and water infrastructure, to deliver a ready-to-build platform for hyperscale clients. "This one-stop model leverages the company's core engineering expertise and next-generation industrial building system, which accelerates structural delivery with off-site precision manufacturing. "This end-to-end approach de-risks early-stage development, shortens timelines, guarantees quality and cost, which sets the company apart as a strategic infrastructure partner in the digital economy," it added.
