Gamuda shares climb after RM1.5b land and works deal with Pearl Computing for massive data centre push

Malay Mail06-05-2025
KUALA LUMPUR, May 6 — Gamuda Bhd shares rose today after indirect subsidiary Gamuda DC Infrastructure Sdn Bhd (DCI) entered into contracts to dispose of 157.42 hectares for RM455.23 million and undertake works worth RM1.01 billion with Pearl Computing Malaysia Sdn Bhd.
At 10.41 am, the counter rose 1.0 sen to RM4.39 with 3.55 million shares changing hands.
In a Monday Bursa Malaysia filing, Gamuda said the earthworks are expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2025 (3Q 2025), followed by the water treatment plant (2Q 2027) and off-river storage (4Q 2028).
The agreements encapsulated the company's one-stop solution for the fast-growing data centre sector, delivering top-to-toe land development, including civil works, utility connections, and water infrastructure, to deliver a ready-to-build platform for hyperscale clients.
'This one-stop model leverages the company's core engineering expertise and next-generation industrial building system, which accelerates structural delivery with off-site precision manufacturing,' it said.
Meanwhile, in a note, Kenanga Investment Bank Bhd viewed the deal positively as it marks the beginning of a large-scale data centre development with an estimated total construction value of up to RM20 billion.
'Given Gamuda's direct involvement in the land deal and infrastructure works, it is well-positioned to secure future data centre contracts,' it said. — Bernama

Couple charged in RM3.6 million con

Published on: Friday, August 15, 2025 Published on: Fri, Aug 15, 2025 By: Cynthia D Baga Text Size: Ang (left) and his wife leaving the courtroom escorted by MACC personnel. Kota Kinabalu: A business couple was charged in the Sessions Court here on Thursday with abetting a company director in submitting false documents to fraudulently claim more than RM3.6 million from the Department of Industrial Development and Research (DIDR). Ang Ka Fat @ Kenny, 57, and his wife Anita Mohamed, 54, pleaded not guilty to all charges when they appeared separately before Judge Jason Juga. The two face two individual charges each, along with one joint charge. On the first charge, Ang and Anita are accused of abetting Effendy Goriaman, Director of Syarikat Intellect Training & Services (ITS), by deceiving Normah Bitong, an administrative assistant at DIDR. They allegedly submitted a false invoice from ITS dated Nov 11, 2022, supported by 12 delivery orders for MeSTI and Halal certification services under the Sabah SMI Assistance Programme (Baiks) 2022, including renovation works, valued at RM500,000. The services were allegedly never rendered. On the second charge, the duo is accused of submitting another false invoice from ITS dated Oct 10, 2023, accompanied by 45 delivery orders for MeSTI, My Food Tag, and Halal certification services under Baiks 2023, also including renovation works, amounting to RM2.7 million. These services were likewise allegedly never carried out. Both offences were allegedly committed at the DIDR office on Nov 11, 2022, and Nov 2, 2023, respectively. The charges were framed under Section 28(1)(c) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 and are punishable under Section 24(2) of the same Act. The offence carries a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine of not less than five times the amount involved or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction. As for the joint charge, Ang and Anita are accused of jointly submitting a false invoice from a different company dated Nov 7, 2023, with 13 delivery orders containing false particulars. The claim was for RM414,400 involving the alleged supply of 11 units of 100-litre machine retorts, two units of 150-litre machine retorts, registration and approval from the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (Dosh), hydrostatic tests, and premises registration. These services and supplies were also allegedly never implemented. The documents were allegedly submitted to Normah on Nov 10, 2023, at the same department. This joint charge falls under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009, punishable under Section 24(2) of the same Act, and read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code. The court fixed Sept 23, 2025, for pre-trial case management. For the first and second charges, bail was set at RM20,000 each with RM3,000 to be deposited, with one local surety per accused. For the joint charge, each was also granted bail of RM20,000 with RM3,000 deposited and one local surety. Judge Jason Juga also imposed additional conditions, namely the couple must report to the MACC office every two months; they must surrender their passports to the court; they are prohibited from contacting or communicating with prosecution witnesses. Failure to comply with these conditions could result in revocation of bail. MACC Prosecuting Officer Dzulkarnain Rousan Hasbi stood in for Deputy Public Prosecutor Rustam Sanim. The couple was represented by counsel Azhier Farhan Arisin. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Gamuda prospects enhanced by global footprint

RHB Research said the group is currently eyeing more green-related project opportunities in Australia. PETALING JAYA: RHB Research continues to favour Gamuda Bhd for its diverse geographical portfolio, the variety of jobs being tendered for renewable energy (RE)-related projects, data centres (DC) and water-related infrastructure. The brokerage firm in a report said the group is currently eyeing more green-related project opportunities in Australia. Note that Australia has raised its capacity investment scheme target to 40GW from 32GW in July, which is set to drive nearly A$52bil in solar and wind technology investments. Gamuda, via DT Infrastructure Pty Ltd, has already secured an onshore wind farm project in Queensland (RM700mil) and a solar farm project in New South Wales (RM1.8bil) in the financial year 2025 (FY25), RHB Research pointed out. In addition, the Integrated System Plan released by the Australian Energy Market Operator shows that by 2050, Australia requires 10,000km of high voltage new transmission lines to carry RE nationwide. 'There are currently AU$53bil worth of transmission projects approved – earmarked or in planning – ahead of achieving Australia's target of an 82% RE mix by 2030,' said RHB Research. In December 2024, Gamuda via a joint-venture with Seymour Whyte Constructions, was shortlisted for the AU$1.1bil Hunter Transmission Project. This ties well with Gamuda's teaming agreement with Rohas Tecnic Bhd , a leading Malaysian supplier of turnkey solutions for transmission networks in April 2024 to bid for and build Australian transmission projects. Meanwhile, RHB Research said it took comfort in Gamuda's involvement in domestic RE-related and water projects such as the Ulu Padas Hydroelectric (UPH) dam in Sabah, which is expected for operation in 2030 and North Perak Water Supply Scheme (NPWSS) slated for operation in 2031. 'They not only provide engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning opportunities with a total estimate of over RM6bil, but also an avenue for recurring income at least RM50mil per annum combined as per our projections,' said the research house. While there were no changes in its earnings estimates, RHB Research said 'we take the opportunity to impute the valuations of the UPH and NPWSS projects into our sum-of-parts valuation, with UPH having an assumed tariff of 31.5 sen per kWh (similar to the 162MW Project Oriole hydropower project in Sabah) and NPWSS having an assumed blended water tariff of RM1.48 per cubic m (average of blended tariffs of Penang and Perak) with adjustments expected to take place every three years.' Hence, RHB Research has arrived at a new target price of RM6.52 per share from RM5.86 previously. Risks include slower-than-expected job replenishment.

Turn every stop into a rewarding ride

PETRONAS Dagangan Bhd launches 'Ganjaran Lebih Bermakna' campaign at over 1,000 stations nationwide EVERY journey deserves a little extra – and PETRONAS Dagangan Bhd (PDB) is making that happen with its 2025 campaign, 'Ganjaran Lebih Bermakna.' From daily commutes to weekend drives, this nationwide initiative rewards Malaysians in meaningful ways, turning ordinary fuel stops into moments of joy. Spearheaded by PDB, the principal marketing arm of Petroliam Nasional Bhd (PETRONAS), the campaign reflects the group's commitment to value, convenience and innovation at over 1,000 fuel stations nationwide. Running from June 1 to Aug 31, the campaign is more than a contest – it's a celebration of loyalty and everyday resilience, giving Malaysians a chance to win big while going about their regular routines, like fuelling up. 'We aim to deliver not just fuel, but a complete experience – powered by digital innovation and customer-centric thinking. This is part of our promise to make everyday life simpler and better for our customers,' said PDB chief operating officer Azureen Azita Abdullah. 'Ganjaran Lebih Bermakna is part of our ongoing effort to create value for all road users, whether they are long-time customers or new to PETRONAS. Staying true to our cultural belief of being Customer Focused, we continue to deliver solutions through the lens of those we serve.' Whether you're navigating morning traffic or planning a weekend getaway, every stop at a PETRONAS station could now bring you closer to two years of free fuel, Mesra Rewards points worth up to RM3,000, or instant vouchers up to RM20. With over 50,000 winners expected nationwide and a seamless, cardless experience via the Setel platform powering the campaign, PETRONAS is proving that simplicity, convenience and impactful rewards can truly go hand in hand. The First Prize winner earned 300,000 Mesra Rewards points after fueling with RM45 or more at a PETRONAS station. Customer empowerment PDB has long envisioned fuel stations as integrated retail hubs – places where convenience, rewards and customer experience are seamlessly integrated. That vision is now a reality, driven by Rakan Niaga who are committed to delivering service excellence nationwide. And with innovations like Setel and Mesra Rewards, PETRONAS is staying ahead of the curve in a fast-evolving fuel retail landscape. At the heart of this customer-first approach is Setel, a next-generation mobility platform designed to streamline fuelling and on-the-go services. What began as a digital payment solution has evolved into a comprehensive ecosystem. Motorists can now fuel up, pay, redeem points, access auto-assistance, pay for parking and even purchase motor insurance – all from a single app. With more than two million retail partners and features like Family Wallet and Scan & Earn, Setel is redefining convenience. Winning steps The 'Ganjaran Lebih Bermakna' campaign is open to all Malaysian citizens aged 18 and above who are members of the PETRONAS Mesra Rewards Loyalty Programme. Participation is also open to those who have not yet registered as Mesra members. They can simply join by entering their phone number at the pump or cashier. Once the phone number is entered for the first time, they will automatically be enrolled as a Mesra Rewards member – offering an alternative for those who prefer paying by cash or card at the fuel pump or cashier. To participate, customers must fuel up with PETRONAS Primax 95 with Pro-Drive or PETRONAS Primax 97 with Pro-Drive at any participating PETRONAS station. Car drivers who spend RM45 per transaction qualify for instant rewards of 1,000 Mesra Rewards points. Meanwhile, motorcyclists can join the campaign with just RM5 per transaction and will receive 300 Mesra Rewards points as instant rewards. This straightforward spending structure ensures that both four-wheeler and two-wheeler users can enjoy valuable rewards every time they refuel with PETRONAS Primax 95 or PETRONAS Primax 97. To be eligible for the Grand Prize or First Prize, customers must accumulate a minimum monthly spend of RM250 for car users or RM40 for motorcyclists within the same calendar month. By doing so, participants stand a chance to win two years of free fuel – worth RM6,000 for car users and RM1,200 for motorcyclists. Alternatively, they may be selected for the First Prize, which awards up to 300,000 Mesra Rewards points for car users (equivalent to RM3,000 in fuel redemptions), or 100,000 Mesra Rewards points (valued at RM1,000) for motorcyclists. Throughout the three-month period, PETRONAS will select 60 Grand Prize winners and 84 First Prize winners, along with over 50,000 Instant Reward winners. It's an unmatched opportunity to turn your regular refuelling routine into a rewarding experience – simply by choosing PETRONAS. And the rewards don't stop there. Customers who use a Visa card, including PETRONAS-Visa co-branded credit cards and maintain a monthly spend of RM250 for three consecutive months, qualify for the campaign's Secondary Mechanic. Here, 15 lucky winners will each receive travel vouchers worth RM20,000 – a dream getaway just from topping up your tank. Azureen (centre) is rewarding a motorcyclist, as part of the campaign – a nationwide initiative that celebrates customer loyalty with instant rewards, Mesra points and more at participating PETRONAS stations. Simplified fuelling Entries and redemptions are made smoother with the Setel app. Participants can fuel up using Setel or by keying in their registered mobile number at the pump or cashier. Physical Mesra cards, however, are not valid for contest entry – reflecting the campaign's emphasis on digital-first convenience. Setel also integrates smoothly with Mesra Rewards, enabling customers to earn and redeem points instantly. Whether you're a long-time Setel user or new to the platform, activating your Mesra Rewards account and creating a six-digit passcode lets you track your balance, manage redemptions and access all campaign rewards via the app or website. For those who prefer not to register through Setel, the process is just as simple – customers can key in their mobile number at the pump or cashier to earn points and participate in the campaign. No physical card is required and with a one-time verification via OTP, customers are automatically enrolled as Mesra members, making the journey to rewards both cardless and effortless, said the winners. An executive, Noorfarahana Zulkifle, shared that Setel has made it easier to track Mesra Rewards points, manage family fuel spending and simplify payments during journeys. 'Everything I need is now in one app – it's convenient, efficient and actually saves me time,' she said. Sustained value Rather than relying solely on promotions or discounts, PDB delivers real, lasting value – fuel that performs, technology that simplifies and a rewards system that gives back. The 'Ganjaran Lebih Bermakna' campaign is an extension of that momentum, combining business growth with meaningful public engagement. With 12 million Mesra Rewards points to be awarded and countless vouchers to be claimed, PETRONAS is set to prove that great journeys begin with great rewards. Every stop brings you closer – to free fuel, real rewards, exceptional customer service and simpler, better journeys. Winner selection All Grand Prize and First Prize winners will be selected via a computerised selection system, witnessed by an authorised internal auditor to ensure transparency and fairness. Shortlisted winners will be contacted by PETRONAS Mesralink for verification and must answer a simple question to confirm their eligibility before being declared as winners. Official notifications will also be sent via email and winners will be announced on the PETRONAS Brands social media channels and PDB's MyMesra website. Prizes will be fulfilled within 60 working days, either through virtual gift cards or Mesra Rewards point transfers. Become a Mesra Rewards member or register and use the Setel app when you fuel up at PETRONAS stations – with a minimum of RM45 for four-wheelers or RM5 for two-wheelers.
