Rumah Bakat MADANI: Malaysia's largest affordable housing project launched
BUTTERWORTH: The Rumah Bakat MADANI initiative, Malaysia's largest affordable housing project to date, symbolises the strong commitment and leadership of the Prime Minister in prioritising the wellbeing of the people and improving access to home ownership. Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said the project will deliver 37,368 housing units, with 6,368 units planned for Seberang Jaya and 31,000 in Batu Kawan. The project is being developed by SkyWorld as the implementing company. 'Under the 12th Malaysia Plan (RMK-12), the government set a target of delivering 500,000 affordable housing units by 2025. As of March 31, a total of 492,360 units have been provided, or 98.5 per cent of the target,' he said. 'Of that total, 179,769 units have been completed, 235,862 are under construction, while 76,729 are in the planning stage,' he added. He was speaking at the groundbreaking and launch ceremony of Rumah Bakat MADANI at Seberang Jaya, today. The event was officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and attended by Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow. Nga said the Rumah Bakat MADANI project will consist of 900-square-foot freehold condominiums, priced between RM225,000 and RM420,000. Each unit will be equipped with modern facilities and access to shared amenities, including a swimming pool, gymnasium, sports courts, multipurpose hall, surau, kindergarten, food stalls, a children's playground, a Central Park and a Vertical School. As part of upcoming reforms under the RMK-13, Nga said the Housing and Local Government Ministry and SkyWorld have agreed to implement three key features, including a 10-year construction warranty covering water leakage and plumbing, a fixed maintenance fee of RM0.18 per square foot (equivalent to RM162 per month) and a targeted QLASSIC construction quality score of 85 per cent. Clubhouse facilities such as the gym, pool, and sports courts will operate on a pay-per-use basis, he added. He said the initiative is aimed at helping first-time homebuyers, particularly those in the B40 and M40 income groups, to secure quality housing at an affordable price. - Bernama

1,200km of ageing water pipes to be replaced in phases, says Shahelmey
Shahelmey KOTA KINABALU (July 8): The Sabah State Government will replace 1,200 kilometres of ageing asbestos cement (AC) water pipes across the state in phases due to high replacement costs, said State Works Minister Datuk Ir Shahelmey Yahya. Responding to Liawan assemblyman Datuk Annuar Ayub during the State Assembly sitting on Tuesday, Shahelmey said the State Water Department (JANS) has already appointed contractors to carry out repairs on leaking and damaged pipes since last year and is implementing pipe replacement programmes in key areas such as Sandakan, Keningau and Kota Kinabalu. 'Replacing all old pipes at once would incur a huge cost, so this effort will be implemented in stages,' he explained. Shahelmey added that under the Fifth Rolling Plan (RP5) of the 12th Malaysia Plan (RMK-12), JANS is currently undertaking high-impact water supply projects: Eighteen in the West Coast, 15 in the interior, 12 in Tawau, five in Sandakan and two in Kudat. For the upcoming 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK-13), the ministry is reviewing consultant appointments to conduct district-level water supply studies. These studies will prepare short-, medium- and long-term master plans, including the implementation of a statewide Water Grid strategy to ensure access to safe and treated water. Shahelmey said proposals have also been submitted to the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, which include: Solving long-standing water supply issues in Tawau and Sandakan, implementing a holistic Non-Revenue Water (NRW) programme for Keningau and Beaufort, replacing old and dilapidated pipes in Kota Kinabalu, Penampang, Putatan and Sandakan, and constructing pre-sedimentation tank systems at 22 water treatment plants throughout Sabah under RMK-13. Additionally, under RP5 of RMK-12, the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development has approved three water supply projects in Kinabatangan, Beluran and Pitas. On alternative water sources, Shahelmey clarified that JANS is limited by Enactment 5 of the Water Supply Enactment 2003 (Amendment 2022), which restricts the department to supplying treated water to registered users only. 'That said, JANS welcomes any alternative water supply proposals and is ready to provide technical support and cooperation to any authorised agency undertaking such efforts,' he said.

Flood-prone Kg Lubok Kasau to get RM1.5mil flood mitigation project, says Melaka CM
JASIN: Long plagued by repeated floods, villagers in Kampung Lubok Kasau here can expect much-needed relief with the launch of a major flood mitigation project next month, Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh says. The Melaka Chief Minister said more than 300 villagers stand to benefit from the RM1.5mil initiative, which will be funded through an emergency allocation by the Irrigation and Drainage Department. 'This is an extraordinary step to protect the safety and well-being of our people. Kampung Lubok Kasau has been hit by floods three times between this March and April alone,' he said after visiting the project site on Friday (July 4). Ab Rauf said the works will include deepening Sungai Bemban by stabilising riverbanks and raising a 2.2km embankment to reduce the risk of future flooding. "Work at the site is slated to begin on August 1 with completion targeted for November," he said. He said that the state government is also preparing a long-term strategy to address flood risks in the area. "A proposal has been submitted under the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK-13) for a detailed study of drainage and flood risk management, covering Kampung Lubok Kasau, Kampung Asam Kumbang and other flood-prone areas within the Bemban constituency. 'The findings will provide the foundation for a comprehensive, sustainable solution to safeguard nearby communities,' he added.

SK Tambatuon new building project in Kota Belud launched

KOTA BELUD (July 4): Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick has launched the SK Tambatuon new building construction project here, valued at RM42 million. This project, under the Third Rolling Plan of the Twelfth Malaysia Plan (RMK-12 RP3), will replace the existing dilapidated school building and is expected to be completed within 24 months starting this month. 'I hope the project runs smoothly and is completed on schedule so that it can benefit the students and villagers who have high hopes for improved educational facilities,' he said to reporters after officiating the groundbreaking ceremony at the school construction site here today. Ewon, who is also the Kadamaian assemblyman, said that as co-chairman of the RMK-13 Project Monitoring and Coordination Intervention Committee, he is responsible for overseeing the smooth implementation of development projects funded by the Federal Government throughout Sabah. 'This is part of our mandate to ensure all projects are expedited for the benefit of the people. 'As the Kadamaian ADUN and a member of the Federal Cabinet, I will ensure that large-scale development needs are brought to this area under RMK-13, which begins next year and runs until 2030,' he added. He also stated that the Kadamaian Development Plan launched in 2020 has shown considerable progress and will continue to be enhanced. Ewon expressed his appreciation to the Education Ministry and the Kota Belud District Education Office (PPD) for their commitment to upgrading neglected schools, especially within the Kadamaian State Constituency. 'Some projects have been completed, others are ongoing, and many more will be proposed under RMK-13. I also congratulate the Sabah Public Works Department (JKR) as the implementing agency, as well as the Development Office and District Office of Kota Belud for their contributions to the district's development,' he said. Meanwhile, the Deputy District Education Officer (Planning Sector), Ishak Hj. Mohd Yusof, stated that among the facilities to be constructed at SK Tambatuon are 10 classrooms, an RBT room, science laboratory, canteen, prayer room, administration block, covered open space and a field. He also informed that schools in the Kadamaian State Constituency have received significant allocations, including completed projects such as SK Sayap, SK Tarintidon, SK Nahaba, SK Gensurai, SK Tengkurus, SK Taginambur, SK Tuguson and SK Lasau Tintapon. 'Projects currently under construction include SK Kiau 1, SK Tamu Darat, SK Kaung, SK Kebayau, SK Mengkulat, SK Melangkap, SK Tambulian, SK Kelawat and SK Tambatuon. 'Several other projects have been approved and are awaiting tender processes, such as the administration blocks at SK Taginambur and SK Dalas, additional classrooms at SMK Narinang, as well as preschools at SK Tampasuk I, SK Piasau and SK Kinasaraban,' he added. He mentioned that SK Rangalau has also received RM1 million allocation under the Renovation and Upgrading Project managed by the Sabah State Education Department. Furthermore, the Kota Belud PPD is currently applying for the construction of new schools including SMK Narinang II, SMK Arshad II, SMK Pekan III and SMK Pintasan following approval of site applications by the Kota Belud Land and Survey Department.
