Hatta, Sohar Port main gateway for goods in Oman
Muscat: The Hatta Land Port connecting the UAE and the Sultanate of Oman, and the Port of Sohar are the main gateways for the entry of goods and cargo to the Sultanate of Oman. The value of imports through Hatta Land Port in the fourth quarter of 2024 was 524 million, accounting for 52 percent of the total value of imports through land ports. The value of imports through Sohar Port during the same period was RO2,089 million, contributing to 70 percent of the total value of imports through seaports. It may be noted that major non-oil Omani exports are received by the UAE, Saudi Arabia, India, South Korea, and the United States, while major countries for re-exports are the UAE, Iran, China, and the United States. The non-Omani imports are mostly from the UAE, China, Kuwait, India, and Saudi Arabia. The Sultanate of Oman shares a direct land border only with Saudi Arabia and the UAE. 2022 © All right reserved for Oman Establishment for Press, Publication and Advertising (OEPPA) Provided by SyndiGate Media Inc. Pilgrims without valid haj permits to face penalties, warns Oman
By OUR CORRESPONDENT Muscat – The Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs (MERA) has urged citizens and residents planning to perform haj this year to secure a valid permit, warning of strict penalties for violations in line with regulations set by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In a statement, MERA emphasised the importance of complying with licensing rules issued by Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Haj and Umrah. 'A permit is essential for performing the pilgrimage,' the ministry stated, warning that unauthorised travel or promotion of unlicensed haj services could lead to significant fines. According to the Oman Haj Mission, individuals travelling without a valid permit may face fines ranging from RO1,000 to RO2,000. Those found advertising or organising unauthorised haj transport could be fined between RO500 and RO1,000. Authorities also called on the public to rely on official communication channels for accurate information and cautioned against misinformation from unofficial sources. Earlier this year, Oman signed a bilateral agreement with Saudi Arabia concerning arrangements for the 1446 AH haj season. The agreement aims to streamline the pilgrimage process for Omani pilgrims.

Oman: CPA cracks down on sale of used tyres
Muscat: The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) in North Sharqiyah has seized 1,104 used vehicle tyres from commercial establishments involved in their storage, repair, and resale. The action was taken in line with the Consumer Protection Law, which prohibits the sale of used tyres due to the risks they pose to consumers. The seized tyres were impounded, and legal measures have been initiated against the violators. The CPA stated that the ban on used tyres is aimed at ensuring public safety. As part of the recent amendments to the Consumer Protection Law, penalties for violating tyre sale regulations have been increased. The fine, previously set at RO500, has been doubled to RO1,000. For repeat offenders, the penalty will be doubled again, with an additional fine of RO50 per day for continued violations, up to a maximum of RO2,000. The amended regulations, which took effect on August 19, 2024, reinforce an existing ruling (No 257/2015) that bans the sale of used tyres in Oman. © Apex Press and Publishing Provided by SyndiGate Media Inc.
