This Morning's Paddy McGuinness opens up about terrifying health scare that saw him rushed to hospital at 17 years old
This Morning's Paddy McGuinness opened up about a terrifying health scare that saw him rushed to hospital as a teenager. The 51-year-old and co-host Alison Hammond, 50, were joined by journalist Rachel Johnson and Gyles Brandreth on Friday's episode of the ITV show. Alison started the conversation by saying that research has highlighted that doctors should trust parents' gut instinct about their children's health. This led them all to share their own stories and views on the matter. Paddy, who has presented the show three times this week while Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard are on half-term, said: 'I don't want to throw shade on doctors and nurses, because they do an amazing job... 'A very similar thing, when I was about 17 I keeled over in agony, I didn't know what it was. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'I had really bad stomach pains. The doctor came to our house, he said: "Just give him these tablets" and left.' Paddy's dad decided to take matters into his own hands and took him to seek medical help because he knew his son wasn't well. He continued: 'It was my dad who went "somethings not right". 'Took me to hospital... Within two hours, I was being operated on, I had a burst ulcer!' A shocked Rachel asked: 'An ulcer at 17?!' 'Yeah, hereditary,' Paddy told her. 'Unbelievable,' Alison added. The panel later discussed if they had ever brushed their teeth with their fingers. Alison pointed out that 12% of people are now doing it. 'I've regularly done it,' Gyles confessed. He added: 'What I DON'T do is share a toothbrush. 'Unlike my friend.' Rachel confessed: 'You see that's what I do. I'm feral. 'Rather than using my finger, I would use another tooth brush. I honestly don't care.' Paddy was disgusted and said: 'Oh no. Oh no. 'I'm all for the finger, but sharing a tooth brush... oh no.' Alison then went on to tell viewers than ONLY 41% of people brush their teeth once a day. She said: 'It needs to be twice a day!?' That is a disgrace,' Rachel agreed.

She began by explaining that women may unknowingly be wiping incorrectly, which can result in stool being transferred due to not properly cleaning their private areas. Women are generally taught to wipe front to back to prevent this, but Rachel claims that not everyone seems to follow this advice. She says this is the most common issue she encounters, noting that it not only creates a foul-smelling experience but also increases the risk of a urinary tract infection (UTI). A urinary tract infection is an infection in any part of the urinary system, which includes the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra. Rachel also mentions that some clients leave traces of toilet paper behind, which adds to the problem. She adds that if you are 'sexually active' with your partner before your appointment, 'chances are high that we know.' Rachel explained that clients often tense up during the procedure, which can cause bodily fluids to be released. She urges people to be 'mindful' when preparing for these services. She says: 'Some women don't realise this because, honestly, wiping back to front is easier, but it's not the correct way.' Girl talks mum through her home bikini wax & even compares it to the 'Lorax' Rachel also advises customers to shower before their waxing appointments, as failing to do so can result in what she calls 'sit-down air,' where an unpleasant smell is carried upwards due to a draft. She shared an anecdote, saying: 'There was a time I thought a client had a tampon in, which is totally fine, I went to move the string to get one side and it's toilet paper that has been wadded up so far that it looked like a tampon string.' Rachel also isn't a fan of girls who come to their appointment straight after the gym, due to how 'sweaty' it is down there. She also advises to exfoliate in the shower, as well as use a washcloth or a silicone loofah to get in between every area of your body. 3 She also gave some advice to those who get waxers Credit: Her video, which was shared on 2 April, has gone viral gaining 39.2million views and 67.4K comments. One wrote: 'You're so professional with this, thanks to you I realise I have good hygiene.' A second added: 'Girl, this was delivered with so much love and information. 'I don't think it came off bad at all. It came off as big sister energy. 'I was worried at first but your delivery was great.' And a third said: "I would never EVER go to a wax appointment without showering omg.'

Choose the Right Time: Schedule your appointment at least a week after your menstrual cycle when your pain threshold is higher. Exfoliate: Gently exfoliate the bikini area a day or two before your wax to remove dead skin cells and prevent ingrown hairs. Trim Hair: Ensure hair is about 1/4 inch long; if it's longer, trim it down for a smoother waxing process. Avoid Caffeine and Alcohol: Steer clear of caffeine and alcohol on the day of your appointment as they can tighten pores and increase sensitivity. Take a Pain Reliever: Consider taking an over-the-counter pain reliever about 30 minutes before your appointment to help minimise discomfort. Wear Loose Clothing: Opt for loose-fitting clothes on the day of your waxing to avoid irritation post-treatment. Communicate with Your Aesthetician: Don't hesitate to discuss any concerns or questions with your aesthetician before the session begins. Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water leading up to your appointment to keep your skin hydrated and more supple.

I'm a bikini waxer - I'm begging women to stop this common mistake before they come to see me
A waxing specialist has urged women who get intimate treatments to abide by key hygeine steps that she says are too often neglected. The beautician revealed that she is regularly faced with the revolting aftermath of mistakes women do unknowingly, like accidentally wiping stool into their genitals, or leaving traces of toilet paper inside the vulva. Having sex in the hours before a wax is also a no-no, according to US-based waxist Rachel Johnson. 'If you are sexually active with your partner before your appointment chances are high that we know,' she said in a TikTok video that's so far had 38 million views. Ms Johnson explained that the vaginal muscle contracts when the hair is ripped from the skin, causing the release of any bodily fluids that may be inside the vagina. 'When we pull the strip you lose control of that area and your pelvic floor for a few seconds and it comes out,' said Ms Johnson. 'Everything will be out on the table—believe that. Unfortunately for me it will be. 'Be mindful when you're going into these services. 'I'm not trying to shame anyone because people literally don't know. You need to control these things because this is your body and your health.' The most common unpleasant thing she sees happens as a result of women 'wiping back to front'. This leads to particles from the back passage transferring to the vulva, which not only makes for a foul-smelling experience for the waxist, but can increase the risk of urinary tract infections. 'If you didn't know this know you do—you need to wipe front to back,' said Ms Johnson. 'As a waxer if you wipe back to front I can tell. Your faeces is smearing into your discharge and it's all the way up the front of you. 'Obviously this has a smell and this is severely unhygienic. 'I've got clients after you and now I'm running late because I'm trying to air out the room. 'It's introducing a lot of bacteria into the area and you are very prone to UTIs when this happens. 'Some women don't know this because honestly wiping back to front is easier, but it's not right.' Ideally, those coming in for a wax should shower beforehand, she advised. Being unclean 'down there' can lead to what she termed 'sit down air'—where the gravity creates a draft upwards and brings with it unpleasant odours. It also means pesky pieces of toilet paper can dry up and stick to the vulva, which is another thing that waxers hate to see, she said. 'There was a time I thought a client had a tampon in, which is totally fine, I go to move the string to get one side and it's toilet paper that has been wadded up so far that it looked like a tampon string.' Coming to an appointment straight from the gym is also another pet-peeve. Ms Johnson said: 'I can't tell you how many clients I've had come in and say "hey sorry I'm late, I was at a workout class," or "sorry I'm a few minutes late I just came from the gym." Why would you do that? 'If you say, "hey, I was just at the gym and I am sweaty down there, I need to shower before my wax appointment," I promise you I might even give you a discount.' She advised exfoliating in the shower to thoroughly wash yourself. 'You need to be exfoliating your whole body. You need to use a washcloth or a loofah of some sort, I use a silicone one because it doesn't harbour bacteria as much as a netted loofah. 'You need to wash your whole body, you need to spread your [bum] cheeks and get the water in between them in the shower. You need to wash your legs and your feet. You cannot just use your hands.'
