Cup results, points after Charlotte Motor Speedway as Ross Chastain earns first Coke 600 win
Ross Chastain became the eighth winner to lock into the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series playoffs, capturing a victory in the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The Trackhouse Racing driver ended an 18-race winless streak in the No. 1 Chevrolet with his sixth career victory in his 236th start. He also won for the first time in his eighth start at the 1.5-mile oval in Concord, N.C. (where his previous best finish was eighth). Advertisement Chastain started last after crashing in practice Saturday ane led twice for eight of 400 laps (including the final six). Per Racing Insights, he was the first Cup driver to win in a backup car since William Byron in the 2024 Daytona 500. Byron finished second at Charlotte after getting passed by Chastain with six laps remaining. Chase Briscoe finished a season-high third. A.J. Allmendinger took fourth for his first top-five finish since October 2023. Brad Keselowski placed fifth for his first top 10 this season. In the regular-season standings, Byronn moved into first by 29 points over Kyle Larson, who finished 37th after crashing.

Good news, bad news for NASCAR teams going into Kansas weekend
The NASCAR Cup Series makes its first of two visits this season to Kansas Speedway this weekend. A year ago, Kyle Larson beat Chris Buescher by .001 seconds. In last fall's playoff race, Ross Chastain won. Here is a look at the good news and bad news for Cup teams heading to Kansas. 23XI Racing — Good news: The organization has won three of the last six races at Kansas Speedway. … Tyler Reddick has led in each of the last seven Kansas races. … Bubba Wallace ranks third in the series with 100 stage points. … Wallace's pit crew ranks first, according to Racing Insights. … Riley Herbst finished a season-best 14th at Texas last weekend. … Corey Heim will make his first start of the season and fourth in his Cup career this weekend, driving the No. 67 car. Bad news: Wallace has placed 19th or worse in three of the last four races. … Reddick has placed 20th or worse in five of the last seven Kansas races. Front Row Motorsports — Good news: Todd Gilliland has placed 16th or better in four of the last five races. … Gilliland's 11th-place result last week at Texas was his best finish in 24 career starts on 1.5-mile tracks. … Zane Smith finished 10th in last fall's race at Kansas. Bad news: Noah Gragson has finished on the lead lap in only three of the last eight races. Haas Factory Team — Good news: Cole Custer has scored back-to-back top 20s for the first time this season, placing 13th at Talladega and 19th last weekend at Texas. Hendrick Motorsports — Good news: Kyle Larson has ranked first or second in speed in the previous two races on 1.5-mile tracks. He ranked second in speed at Homestead, a race he won, and first in speed at Texas, a race he finished fourth. … Larson's average finish on 1.5-mile tracks this season is a series-best 4.7. … Larson leads the series with seven top-five finishes and eight top 10s this year. … Larson has scored a series-best 108 stage points. … Alex Bowman's 10 top 10s at Kansas are his most at any track. … Chase Elliott is the only driver to finish in the top 20 in every race this season. … Elliott has four consecutive top 10s at Kansas. … William Byron's average finish this season is 8.91, best in the series. … Byron has scored 107 stage points to rank second to Larson in that category. Joe Gibbs Racing — Good news: Christopher Bell has won the pole for the last three races at Kansas. … Bell has led each of the six Kansas races in the Next Gen era. … Bell has 10 top 10s, including two wins, in the last 14 races on 1.5-mile tracks. … Denny Hamlin has seven consecutive top-10 finishes at Kansas. … Ty Gibbs has started in the top 10 in the last three races. Bad news: The organization has led only 16 laps on 1.5-mile tracks this season. … Hamlin has finished outside the top 20 in the past two races. … Chase Briscoe has not finished better than 13th in eight Kansas starts. … Gibbs' average finish of 23.8 at Kansas is his worst among 1.5-mile tracks. Kaulig Racing — Good news: Ty Dillon finished a season-best 12th last weekend at Texas after gaining six spots in overtime. … AJ Allmendinger has four top-10 finishes in his last five starts on 1.5-mile tracks. Bad news: Austin Cindric does not have a top-10 finish in seven Kansas starts in Cup and has finished 31st or worse in each of his last four starts there. Trackhouse Racing — Good news: Ross Chastain has finished in the top 10 in five of the last seven races, including his runner-up finish last weekend at Texas. … Chastain's last win came at Kansas in last year's playoff race. … Daniel Suarez has scored back-to-back top 10s. Bad news: Shane van Gisbergen has started 33rd or worse in each of the last six races. Wood Brothers Racing — Good news: Josh Berry's victory this season came on a 1.5-mile track (Las Vegas). … He led 41 laps last weekend at Texas, also 1.5-mile track. Bad news: Berry finished 32nd at Texas due to damage suffered in a crash. … Berry has finished 26th or worse in four of the last five races.

Good news, bad news for NASCAR teams ahead of Texas Cup weekend
The NASCAR Cup Series makes its only visit to Texas Motor Speedway this weekend. The next three points races are at 1.5-mile tracks — Texas, Kansas and the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte. Here is a look at the good news and bad news for Cup teams heading to Texas. Dustin Long, 23XI Racing — Good news: Bubba Wallace ranks second in the series in stage points with 94 this season. … Wallace's pit crew has gained him a net 37 spots on four-tire stops this season, most of all teams. … Tyler Reddick's average finish in Cup at Texas is 9.3. … Reddick has scored at least one stage point in every race this season. Bad news: Riley Herbst has five finishes of 28th or worse in the last seven races. Front Row Motorsports — Good news: Noah Gragson finished a season-best fourth at Talladega. … Zane Smith won the pole at Talladega last weekend, his first career Cup pole. … Todd Gilliland has finished 16th or better in three of the last four races. Bad news: Briscoe has scored stage points in only three of 10 races this year. Kaulig Racing — Good news: AJ Allmendinger has top 10s in the last four races on 1.5-mile tracks. Bad news: Ty Dillon has had fuel issues in each of the past two races. He was forced to pit with less than 10 laps left at Bristol for fuel and ran out of fuel last weekend at Talladega while in position to score his first top 10 of the season. Legacy Motor Club — Good news: Erik Jones makes his 300th career Cup start this weekend. Bad news: John Hunter Nemechek has finished 30th in two of the last three races. Richard Childress Racing — Good news: Austin Dillon has scored back-to-back 10th-place finishes, his only two top 10s of the season. … Kyle Busch has six top 10s in his last eight starts at Texas. Bad news: Busch has not finished in the top 10 in the last six races at 1.5-mile tracks. … Busch has had a pit road speeding penalty in each of the last two races. … This is the second year in a row RCR has had only one top-five finish in the first 10 races of the season. Rick Ware Racing — Good news: Cody Ware scored his first stage points of the season last weekend at Talladega. Bad news: Ware's best finish at Texas was 33rd in 2022, his most recent Cup start at the track. RFK Racing — Good news: Brad Keselowski has six consecutive top 10s at Texas. … Ryan Preece has finished in the top 10 in both races at 1.5-mile tracks this season. He placed ninth at Homestead and third at Las Vegas. Bad news: Preece's second-place finish at Talladega was taken away when his car was disqualified for failing post-race inspection (had three shims instead of required two with spoiler). He lost 39 points, which dropped him from 12th to 18th in the points. … Chris Buescher finished 34th at Talladega after he was collected in a crash with Christopher Bell on a restart while they were at the front of the field. … Keselowski finished 36th at Talladega due to a crash as cars slowed to come to pit road in the opening stage. Spire Motorsports — Good news: Carson Hocevar's 40 stage points this season are more than five drivers who are in a playoff spot after 10 races. … Michael McDowell scored the bonus point for the fastest lap in the race at Talladega. That is the third time he has done that this season. Bad news: Justin Haley has one top-10 finish in his last 15 starts on 1.5-mile tracks. … Hocevar has four finishes of 30th or worse in the last seven races. Team Penske — Good news: Austin Cindric comes into Texas off his Talladega win. Bad news: Ryan Blaney has failed to finish four of the last seven races this season, including last weekend's race at Talladega. Those four DNFs are the most in the series this year. … Joey Logano lost 40 points with his car being disqualified at Talladega for failing post-race inspection (missing a spoiler bolt). He went from finishing fifth to placing last in the 39-car field. He fell from eight to 11th in points. Trackhouse Racing — Good news: Ross Chastain has gained 21 positions on restarts at 1.5-mile tracks this season, the most in the series. … Chastain has finished in the top 10 in four of the last six races. … Daniel Suarez has three top-10 finishes in the last four races at Texas. Bad news: Shane van Gisbergen has five pit road speeding penalties in the last three races. Wood Brothers Racing — Good news: Josh Berry won earlier this season at Las Vegas, a 1.5-mile track. … Berry has started in the top 10 in five of the last nine races. Bad news: Berry finished 36th last April in his only Cup start at Texas after an accident eliminated him.
