Raider schedule: Ranking road trips

The Las Vegas Raiders' 2025 regular-season schedule was recently released. The Raiders play eight games on the road and we all know the Raider Nation loves to travel. I'm sure many of you are planning to hit the road this season to support the Silver and Black. I've had the privilege of attending games in all 32 NFL cities. So, to help you with your travel plans, I will rank the Raiders' trips this season. Advertisement I'm using several reasons in my formula including convenience the city, time of year, weather and other factors: Sept. 7 at New England Patriots, 10 a.m., CBS I'm really feeling this trip. I love that it's early in the season and New England is beautiful that time of year. There is added excitement that this is the first game of the season. The only thing that would make this trip perfect is if the Boston Red Sox were home that weekend. but Boston is a gem of a city regardless. What a great trip. But, full disclosure: Gillette Stadium is not super easy to get to, so plan accordingly. But everything else about this trip makes it worthwhile. Yes, try the clam chowder. Nov. 30 at Los Angeles Chargers, 1:25 p.m., CBS Advertisement The Raider Nation will be representing hard, so you might as well be part of it. This is an easy trip for West Coasters and it being on Thanksgiving weekend makes it even more appealing. Oct. 19 at Kansas City Chiefs, 10 a.m., CBS Arrowhead Stadium is a bucket-list spot for all NFL fans. This is a great time of year and Kansas City is an underrated city. Go for it. Oct. 5 at Indianapolis Colts, 10 a.m., FOX This is such an easy trip. Lucas Oil Stadium is located right downtown. The city is loaded with fun and it's all in walking distance. Don't sleep on Indy. Nov. 6 at Denver Broncos, 5:15 p.m. Amazon Advertisement A night division game to start a weekend trip, why not? The weather should be decent. Solid trip. Dec. 21 at Houston Texans, 1:25 p.m., CBS Houston isn't a bad city at all. But I'm just not feeling the Christmas week trip. Not enough about this trip pushes it up the list. Dec. 14 at Philadelphia Eagles, 10 a.m., FOX Philly is fun. But the weather could be nasty and oh, so could be the Eagles fans. Sept. 21 at Washington Commanders, 10 a.m., FOX The stadium is waaaaaaaayyyyyyyy out of the way and it's kind of a dump. But DC in the early fall is a draw. Pack those bags and have a blast. The Raiders most intriguing and pivotal game fo the 2025 season happens very early on

The Raiders most intriguing and pivotal game fo the 2025 season happens very early on Raider Nation will be eagerly watching this year's team. There's significant optimism with the new coaching staff and front office that the Raiders are in better hands moving forward. And quick results are expected. There's every reason to believe this team can hit the ground running with head coach Pete Carroll reunited with QB Geno Smith who has several weapons with which to work. The first big test of that will come very early on. One of the most pivotal litmus tests of the Raiders 2025 season schedule will come in the team's home opener when they host the Chargers at Allegiant. This happens in week two. And it's in primetime on Monday Night Football. Not only will it be a big test for this team, whether the Raiders come out with a win or not could go a long way as to where they will ultimately stand in a potential playoff chase. But there's an added intrigue to this game that involves their long time rival head coaches as Matt Zemek of Trojans Wire recently pointed out. What adds to the attractiveness of the matchup is that it reunites Pete Carroll with old enemy Jim Harbaugh. The two went at it when USC played Stanford nearly two decades ago, and then in the NFL when Carroll's Seattle Seahawks battled Harbaugh's San Francisco 49ers for NFC supremacy. The two head coaches seem to be doing a bit of rivalry stalking. They clearly know each other very well. The question is, which of them has changed up their tendencies enough to be less predictable? The Chargers are coming off a playoff season in Harbaugh's first year on the job. And they swept the Raiders along the way. Then again, so did the rest of the division. But this is a different team under Carroll. One that is much more confident that their head coach is going to give them the best chance to win, rather than make the wrong decisions in the most critical moments as happened a lot last season under Antonio Pierce. We can now get back to the more common philosophy that you can throw the records out the window in division rivalry games. I made my early pick for who wins this matchup in my Raiders game-by-game predictions. And whether the Raiders come out of this one with a win or not could mean the difference between heading into the week eight bye with a winning record or a losing record. So, yeah, we can all agree that game will be a big one. Buy Las Vegas Raiders tickets for 2025

New Raiders coach Pete Carroll eager to compete again after year away from football

Pete Carroll was introduced as the Las Vegas Raiders' new head coach on Monday, along with new general manager John Spytek. And the new regime made it quite clear that everyone in the locker room was on notice as they try to change the culture and establish a winning attitude. "It all starts with competition," Carroll said, repeating that theme throughout the news conference. "You're either competing or you're not.' 'If there's one thing I want them to understand," he added, "it's that to be a great team, you have to be a great teammate.' Leading the way 🏴‍☠️ #RaiderNation — Las Vegas Raiders (@Raiders) January 27, 2025 Asked why he wanted to return to coaching at 73 years old, Carroll said he wasn't chasing any accomplishments. He's already won a Super Bowl championship with the Seahawks and a college national title at USC. Carroll said he wants to apply what he learned from his year away from football to the Raiders job, from watching JV football, his grandson play quarterback on the varsity and his son Brennan, who's the offensive coordinator at Washington. He also watched former assistants Dan Quinn, head coach for the Washington Commanders, and Dave Canales, the Carolina Panthers' head coach, during the past season. Carroll on what he did during his year away from coaching. — Bob Condotta (@bcondotta) January 27, 2025 "Learning ... You have to stay curious and make sure that you're always on the next opportunity to be a little bit better," he said. "I had an incredible year. ... It's been a year full of just input." Carroll also reminded the gathered media that the last time he took a year off from football, after being fired as the New England Patriots' head coach, was "extraordinarily life-changing." He took the USC job and began a legendary run that resulted in the aforementioned national championship, seven Pac-12 titles and a 97-19 record. In addition to competition, Carroll and Spytek emphasized that finding leadership on the roster was important, even more so than roster construction. "We're going to turn over every stone to find that leader," Spytek said. 'Our character will be our fate.' The hope is that at least one of those leaders will be a quarterback that the team can build around. The Raiders have the No. 6 selection in April's NFL Draft, though neither Spytek nor Carroll indicated if that's where they would pursue a new QB. The new coach and GM did not elaborate on whether or not minority owner Tom Brady, who reportedly has a 5% stake in the franchise, would take an active role in choosing a quarterback or determining the roster. But the team will "lean" on him, according to Carroll, and Brady will be a part of establishing a new culture. 'He has been integrally involved. He's been an exciting part of it," Carroll said. "This is his opportunity to put his stamp on a franchise. He's been involved and will continue to be involved.' This was Marshawn Lynch 🤣 — Sami ON Tap (@SamiOnTap) January 27, 2025 Lynch yelled "RAIDERS!" during Carroll's introductory remarks, perhaps demonstrating the sort of vociferous fandom that the coach said he wanted in Allegiant Stadium. Carroll joked that it was team owner Mark Davis yelling. Carroll hopes to find 53 more like Lynch, in addition to 65,000 of him to fill the stands, as he tries to lift the Raiders from 20-plus years of mediocrity.

Look: Marshawn Lynch shows up to Pete Carroll's first Raiders press conference

Pete Carroll is starting a new chapter in his coaching career as the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders, and right there to support him on Day 1 was one of his former players: the beloved Marshawn Lynch. Lynch attended Carroll's introductory press conference with the Raiders on Monday, watching his former head coach take on his new role in Las Vegas. Carroll and Lynch have a great relationship so it's hardly surprising to see Beastmode in attendance, but it's still cool, nonetheless. Below is a quick shot of Lynch at the press conference, standing in the back with Maxx Crosby and others. He made four straight Pro Bowls with the Seahawks, winning one Super Bowl and reaching another where Seattle lost to the Patriots.
