Dave Challinor wants Stockport to be rewarded in Carabao Cup draw

Second-half headers from Kyle Wootton and Nathan Lowe plus Lewis Fiorini's strike secured County victory at Edgeley Park to dump out the Railwaymen, whose late consolation came from Emre Tezgel. Challinor will have a keen eye on Wednesday's draw, which includes Manchester United among the 11 Premier League clubs entering the competition. He said: 'The second-half performance was much better and had much more intent about us. I was disappointed with our first half because of what we wanted the players to do and they didn't do that. 'It was too placid in the first half that we played. I'm delighted to win, that's the aim and hence why we picked the team that we did. Tonight was about progressing and we've done that and hopefully we get rewarded for that with a nice draw.' Lee Bell felt his Crewe side were undone by poor defending for Stockport's first two goals. He said: 'We're obviously disappointed to be knocked out of a competition. We knew we were going to be understrength and then you get here and see the players they had on the team sheet. 'But I think shape-wise and the way we tried to play was good. I've just said to the players if we want to achieve anything, you've got to stop crosses coming into your box and you've got to mark inside the box, because ultimately those two goals have cost us.'

Stockport sweep aside Crewe to make Carabao Cup progress

Second-half headers from Kyle Wootton and Nathan Lowe plus Lewis Fiorini's strike secured victory for the hosts at Edgeley Park to dump out the League Two Railwaymen, whose late consolation came from Emre Tezgel. Crewe's Adrien Thibaut had sight of goal after five minutes but hooked over, while Wootton's header forced a superb fingertip save from Burnley loanee Sam Waller. Waller's reflexes denied Odin Bailey an opener in the 25th minute and Callum Connolly nodded inches wide from the following corner. Lowe's 39th-minute header glanced wide and Waller parried the Stoke loanee's deflected effort before half-time. County deservedly went ahead four minutes into the second half after Owen Dodgson headed across goal for Wootton to nod home. Stockport doubled their advantage three minutes later when Lowe glanced in Dodgson's cross. Tezgel tested County goalkeeper Ben Hinchliffe before Fiorini's sublime goal from outside the box with 13 minutes left. Crewe's Tommi O'Reilly could have netted five minutes from full-time, but fellow substitute Oliver Armstrong inadvertently blocked the shot. But Tezgel did net Crewe's consolation moments later by turning an 86th-minute cross home.
