Cops to call over 60 people in FRU crash probe

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : Police will record statements from more than 60 people to assist in the investigation into the accident that claimed the lives of nine Federal Reserve Unit personnel on Jalan Chikus-Sungai Lampam in Teluk Intan, Perak, yesterday morning. Hilir Perak police chief Bakri Zainal Abidin said police would call FRU members who were at the scene of the accident, as well as the owner of the lorry company to aid the investigation. 'This is to avoid biased investigations and so on. I also call on the public to come forward to provide information that can assist our investigation. 'We will look at (the investigation) from all angles, namely human negligence, technical issues involving the vehicle, as well as environmental issues,' Bernama reported him as saying today. Bakri said an FRU member from Unit 5 Ipoh was placed in Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital's intensive care unit due to internal bleeding and head and abdominal injuries. He said eight more injured FRU personnel are still being treated at Teluk Intan Hospital. Earlier this morning, the final honours for the nine who died were completed in accordance with police ceremonial protocol at the FRU Unit 5 base in Sungai Senam, Ipoh. In the 8.50am incident yesterday, a lorry carrying gravel collided with an FRU truck transporting 15 personnel. Preliminary investigations suggest that the accident was caused by a steering wheel failure.

TELUK INTAN, May 14 — Police will record statements from more than 60 individuals to assist in the investigation into the accident that claimed the lives of nine Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) members on Jalan Chikus-Sungai Lampam yesterday morning. Lower Perak police chief ACP Dr Bakri Zainal Abidin said his department would call FRU members who were at the scene of the accident as well as the owner of the lorry company to assist in the investigation. 'This is to avoid biased investigations and so on. I also call on the public to come forward to provide information that can assist our investigation. 'We will look at (the investigation) from all angles, namely human negligence, technical issues involving the vehicle as well as environmental issues,' he said when met by reporters after the completion of the remand application for the lorry driver in the Magistrate's Court here today. Meanwhile, Bakri said an FRU member from Unit 5 Ipoh was placed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital Ipoh due to internal bleeding with head and abdominal injuries. According to Bakri, eight more injured FRU prsonnel are currently still seeking treatment at Teluk Intan Hospital. Earlier, in the incident at about 8.50 am yesterday, a lorry carrying gravel crashed into a truck carrying 18 FRU members who were on their way back to Ipoh after completing their duties in conjunction with the Chitrapournami festival here. Senior citizen with dislocated shoulder rescued from Gunung Yong Belar

(Fire and rescue department pic) PETALING JAYA : Fire and rescue department personnel today helped a senior citizen who was injured while climbing Gunung Yong Belar and flew him by helicopter to Ipoh for emergency medical treatment. Perak fire and rescue department assistant operations director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said they received an emergency call about the incident at 9.03am, Harian Metro reported. He said when his crew reached the victim, 63-year-old Manjinder Singh, they found that he had dislocated his left shoulder. According to Sabarodzi, an AW139 helicopter was then dispatched from the Bertam air base in Penang. 'The helicopter airlifted the victim from the site of the incident and sent him to the Sultan Azlan Shah Airport in Ipoh, where he was then taken to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital. 'An emergency medical rescue services ambulance from the Tambun fire and rescue station was sent to the airport to prepare for the victim's arrival,' he said. Sabarodzi said the victim reached the hospital at 10.10am. He added that Manjinder had gone up the mountain with three friends and three guides. Gunung Yong Belar is on the Titiwangsa mountain range and sits on the border between Kelantan and Perak.
