Patriotic fervour marks ID celebrations
Impressive march pasts and cultural programmes marked Independence Day celebrations in Kurnool, Anantapur and Nandyal district. Participating in the event at the Police Parade Grounds in Anantapur, Minister for Finance Payyavula Keshav said the government was working hard to fulfil the aspirations of the people by giving equal importance to development and welfare. On the occasion, he recalled the contribution of many leaders for the country's Independence. He also listed the various government programmes. Anantapur and Hindupur MPs Ambica Lakshminarayana and B.K. Pardhasaradhi respectively and in-charge District Collector Shiv Narayan Sharma also participated. In Nandyal, Minister for Roads and Buildings B.C. Janardhan Reddy hoisted the National Flag at an event organised at the PSC&KVSC Government Degree College Grounds in the town in the presence of District Collector Rajakumari Gania and Superintendent of Police Adhiraj Singh Rana. Addressing a gathering of students and people, Mr. Janardhan Reddy hailed leaders like Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy, 'Andhra Tilak' Gadicherla Hari Sarvottama Rao and others who have contributed for freedom fight. He also lauded Ms. Rajakumari Gania and her team of officials for effective and speedy implementation of various government programmes aimed at the district's development. The Minister listed various government initiatives and the successful implementation of schemes over the past one year. The tableau of Horticulture and Micro Irrigation Department won the first prize followed by that of Nandyal Municipal Corporation. In Kurnool, Minister for Industries and Commerce T.G. Bharath, District Collector P. Ranjith Basha and Superintendent of Police Vikrant Patil took part in the Independence Day celebrations at the Police Parade Grounds. Earlier, Mr Ranjith Basha hoisted the National Flag in the Collectorate and extended greetings to the staff and people of the district. Cultural programmes by children of various government schools enthralled the audience during the celebrations. The National Flag was hoisted at all the government offices, district police unit offices and government institutions and universities on the occasion.

Urea stock will arrive on Friday: Nandyal Collector
District Collector Rajakumari Gania has said the district will receive 3,500 metric tonnes of urea by Friday (August 1 ) and asked the officials to make the same available to the farmers. She said already 1,100 metric tonnes of urea is available in the district. Taking stock of the available of urea and other issues with officials in the collectorate on Thursday (July 31), Ms. Rajakumari Gania has asked officials to create awareness among the farmers not to use urea in excess. She asked officials to complete the process of e-KYC of crops in a transparent manner and ensure that every farmer completes e-KYC and insures their crop. The Collector said the deficit rainfall in June month had led to depleting of groundwater in Pyapili, Dhone and Kolimigundla mandals. She noted that the groundwater levels have fell to 24.23 metres in Pyapili mandal, 23.46 metres in Dhone and 26.67 metres in Kolimigunda mandal and asked officials to take up water conservation methods in these mandals. Ms. Rajakumari Gania wanted officials to create awareness among the people on water conservation methods. The Collector said micro watershed programme will be taken up through 18 projects in the 16 mandals of the district. The Collector asked officials to prepare a report of the projects to be taken for forwarding the same to the Central government through the State government. Ms Rajakumari Gania said the State government is spending crores of rupees on watershed programmes like digging farm ponds, dugout ponds, small and big circulation tanks and others and asked officials to take up these programmes in a proper manner for achieving better results. She asked the officials of irrigation department, ground water department, NABARD and others to coordinate and prepare plans for taking up watershed programmes. Ms Rajakumari Gania said they have sent proposals for taking up repair, renovation and restoration (RRR) initiative for ayacut strengthening by spending ₹138 crore.

Awareness campaigns, rallies held against use of plastic
District administrations on Saturday conducted awareness campaigns on cleanliness with the theme 'Ending Plastic Pollution' as part of 'Swarnandhra-Swacchandhra' drive in the State. In Nandyal district, Minister for Minority Welfare N. Md. Farooq, Collector Rajakumari Gania and officials took part in an awareness campaign in the town. Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Gania urged the people from village to district level to maintain their surroundings to achieve 'Swarnandhra-Swacchandhra'. 'Every individual should stop using plastic bags and disposables. People whose livelihood is dependent on making plastic items should be encouraged to manufacture jute and paper bags and everyone should use these products to curb extensive use of plastic,' the Collector said. The Collector along with the Minister went around the town creating awareness about the ill-effects of plastic and also participated in a drive to clean the streets. In Anantapur, District Collector Vinod Kumar V. led a rally in Bondalavada village of Narpala mandal to create awareness among the villagers on the ill-effects of plastic and urged them to keep the village clean. Speaking on the occasion, he said that single use plastic has already been banned in Anantapur Municipal limits and the same will be implemented in villages too. He said they have started the process of disposing off the garbage in the Anantapur town and soon the entire district will be made Swachh Anantapur. Mr. Kumar said that as part of ban on single use plastic, they have stopped using plastic water bottles in the Collectorate too. Anantapur Urban MLA Daggupati Venkateswara Prasad led a rally in the town to create awareness against usage of plastic. The aim is to make the city plastic-free, he said, adding that they will promote use of cloth bags in a big way. Later, he distributed jute bags. In Kurnool, police personnel across the district took cleanliness drive in the police station premises on the instructions of Superintendent of Police Vikrant Patel. The SP said that keeping the surroundings clean is the responsibility of each and every individual.

Tiranga Yatra held in Nandyal
Nandyal Collector Rajakumari Gania on Sunday said that the people of the country are living safely and happily due to the sacrifices and fighting spirit of our soldiers guarding the borders. A Tiranga Yatra was taken out from Tekme Market yard to Gandhi Chowk in Nandyal district headquarters to honour the armed forces on the success of Operation Sindoor in response to the terror attack on tourists in J&K's Pahalgam. Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Rajakumari said Tiranga Rally is a symbol of unity in diversity and urged people to express their solidarity with the defence forces. Nandyal MP Byreddy Shabari said the armed forces have shown the might of our military power to Pakistan and all those countries, opposing us, through Operation Sindoor. She said the women soldiers of the nation have taught a lesson to the terror elements who have killed innocent men in front of their wives through Operation Sindoor. Ms Rajakumari and Ms Shabari also felicitated personnel serving the armed forces and those who have retired from service. Tributes were paid to slain army jawan Murali Naik, and others who were killed in Pahalgam terror attack.
