Sambhal puts 3-tier security for Eid Al-Adha, DM says getting ‘full cooperation'

A three-tier security system was implemented in Sambhal for Eid-al-Adha celebrations on Saturday, with people agreeing to perform sacrifices peacefully only at the traditional places allocated to them, said District Magistrate Rajendra Pensiya. "A three-tier security system has been put in place, which includes Sector Magistrates, General Magistrates, and forces on the ground. Flag marches and patrolling were also done earlier. In our meetings of the peace committee, everyone agreed not to offer sacrifices at public places and to offer sacrifices with complete peace and cooperation only at the traditional places allocated earlier," Pensiya told the media. He also said that people were cooperating and no problems had occurred during the celebrations so far. He praised the Police and administration for making adequate arrangements. "We spoke with all the Maulanas, Muftis, Mutawalli, and representatives of mosques, and they all ensured to celebrate Eid Al Adha peacefully. Everyone is cooperating a lot, there is no problem of any kind... There is adequate arrangement from the Police and Administration. Arrangements have also been made for the disposal of the waste. This will continue for three days and till 3 PM each day," he added. Circle Officer Chanduasi, Anuj Chaudhary, said that namaz was offered inside the Eidgahs in Chandausi and Narauli. "There are two Eidgahs, one in Chandausi and the other in Narauli, where namaz was offered... At both places, namaz was offered within the four walls... No namaz was offered on the roads," Chaudhary told ANI. During the early hours, people were seen offering Namaz in Chandausi, Sambhal. Eid al-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to God. The day is marked by prayers, charitable acts, and the ritual sacrifice of animals, with a message of sharing and empathy at its core.

MGNREGA job cards generated in the names of deceased villagers in Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal; probe ordered

An alleged fraud under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) scheme has come to light in a village in Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal, with more than a dozen individuals shown as labourers and wages withdrawn in their names. 'The scam was unearthed in Atarasi village under the Panwasa block of Sambhal district,' officials said. The current village head, Sunita Yadav, is accused of generating job cards in the names of deceased villagers and withdrawing wages by falsely showing 'work completed' on paper. The district administration confirmed that an investigation is under way and recovery has been initiated from the village head. "The case came to my notice around seven months ago. An inquiry was ordered at that time," Sambhal District Magistrate Rajendra Pensiya told reporters. "When the misappropriation in any case is below 10%, we proceed with recovery from the concerned official. In this case, a misappropriation of ₹1.05 lakh was found. The recovery is being made from the village head. Other developmental works in the village are also being investigated," he added. Among those listed as labourers was a principal of an inter college. Rishipal Singh, principal of Mulayam Singh Yadav Inter College, said, "A job card was made in my name without my knowledge. I have never worked under MGNREGA, yet my name appeared in the records and money was withdrawn. I was even called in for questioning during the inquiry." Local resident Sanjeev Kumar said, "My grandfather Jagat Singh passed away in 2020. We had no idea that wages were being withdrawn in his name. We only found out when officials came to the village to investigate. We have heard that job cards were created in the names of nearly a dozen deceased individuals." Nirmal Das, the main complainant in the case, alleged that job cards were made even in the name of the village head's deceased father-in-law and several of her family members. "Money from government funds were withdrawn in the name of bogus labourers. Some of these people don't even live in the village anymore. Yet their identities were used to siphon off funds," Mr. Das said. A Central Government initiative, the MGNREGA provides at least 100 days of guaranteed employment in a year to rural households whose adult members volunteer to do unskilled manual work.

Sambhal schools fined INR 33 lakh for violating UP's private school fee and book rules

SAMBHAL: The district administration has fined 33 private schools Rs 1 lakh each for allegedly compelling students to purchase textbooks from specific sellers and using textbooks from private publishers, in violation of state regulations. According to an official statement issued by District Magistrate Rajendra Pensiya on Sunday, an investigation was conducted into the textbooks being used in schools affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE). The probe found that 33 schools were either using textbooks from private publishers or forcing students to buy books only from specific sellers. This practice was found to be in contravention of provisions of the Uttar Pradesh Self-Financed Independent Schools (Fee Regulation) Act. Poll Do you agree with the fines imposed on schools for forcing students to buy specific textbooks? No, schools should have the freedom to choose. Yes, it's necessary to protect students' rights. As a first-time penalty, each school has been fined Rs 1 lakh. The district administration has directed the schools to deposit the penalty within a week and submit the receipt to the district inspector of schools. Further action can be taken for non-compliance, officials said. AI Masterclass for Students. Upskill Young Ones Today!– Join Now
