UP: Three sentenced to life in jail for murder of SP polling agent during 2022 polls

A court in Shahjahanpur has sentenced three men to life imprisonment for the murder of a youth after he allegedly tried to stop a group of people from casting votes during the 2022 Assembly election in Tilhar, suspecting bogus voting. The victim, Sudhir, was a polling agent of the Samajwadi Party. 'The court sentenced all three accused—Rakesh Singh, Rajeshwar Singh, and Vishesh Yadav—to life imprisonment in the murder case of Sudhir,' said Government Counsel (Shahjahanpur) Rajeev Awasthi, adding nine prosecution witnesses were examined during the trial. The three – all residents of Chakora village in Nigohi — were convicted under IPC section 302 (murder) and 304 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention). Roshan Lal Verma, who was Samajwadi Party's candidate from Tilhar Assembly seat, said: 'Sudhir was my polling agent and killed by men associated with the BJP.' The BJP denied having any association with the convicts. 'I have heard about the case and the convicts have no association with the party and never been any office-bearers,' said BJP's Shahjahanpur district president Krishna Chandra Mishra. He added that Sudhir did not hold any party post in the Samajwadi Party. Following the verdict, Rakesh and Vishesh, who were out on bail, were taken into custody. Rajeshwar Singh had been in jail since his arrest. According to the public prosecutor, Sudhir's father had lodged a police complaint alleging that his son was attacked and killed by assailants on the morning of February 15, 2022. He alleged that the attack was the result of a dispute that took place a day earlier when Sudhir—who was serving as a polling agent for the Samajwadi Party—had a heated argument with three youths after stopping them from casting bogus votes.

Over 1.5k BJP workers take ‘Nation First' pledge

1 2 3 Lucknow: BJP MLA Rajeshwar Singh concluded mandal-level workshops across all six Sarojininagar mandals, rallying over 1,500 office bearers on Saturday. The concluding session at Aastha, Krishna Dham, saw workers pledge themselves to the 'Nation First, Party Before Self' doctrine. Singh called upon BJP workers to become vigilant to "digital warriors," warning that future wars would be fought not with guns, but through servers, data and psychological manipulation. "Silent warfare is real. India faces 1.5 million cyber-attacks every month. Youth must prepare for ideological and digital infiltration," he said, citing the 2022 AIIMS data breach and 2020 power grid attack in Mumbai. The workshops positioned Sarojininagar as a new hub of defence and development, with projects like the Rs 300 crore PTC superalloy plant, BrahMos missile unit, Rs 87.5 crore state forensic institute, and Rs 23 crore naval war museum underway. Singh said Lucknow was leading UP's economic surge, contributing 4% to the state GDP. "Only BJP has the vision to protect national interests and secure India's future," he said. Bright students of BJP workers were felicitated with laptops.

UP gets its first solar EV charging station, aims for 22,000 MW solar push by 2030

The state's first solar-powered electric vehicle (EV) charging station was opened in Banthra under Sarojininagar constituency on Friday. The station was inaugurated by BJP's Sarojininagar MLA Rajeshwar Singh. Calling solar energy "a responsibility for Earth's future, not just an alternative," Singh stressed its role in tackling air pollution and climate change. He noted that over 8 million people die annually from air pollution, with more than 2.5 million deaths in India alone. Highlighting Earth Overshoot Day, Singh warned that in 1972, humanity exhausted its annual natural resource quota by Dec 23, but in 2024, it fell to Aug 1-indicating unsustainable consumption. He shared that UP currently has over 3.75 lakh registered EVs and offers attractive subsidies to promote green mobility. Each EV can save 1.5 million grams of CO₂ per year. With a 30% EV adoption target by 2030, India could save $60 billion in oil imports annually. Singh praised CM Yogi Adityanath's solar mission to expand UP's solar capacity from 288 MW in 2017 to 22,000 MW by 2030.

HC Sambhal order a historic step: MLA

Lucknow: Welcoming Allahabad high court 's decision allowing the ASI survey of the Jama Masjid in Sambhal, BJP's Sarojininagar MLA Rajeshwar Singh called it a historic step towards restoring India's cultural identity and Sanatan values. "This is not merely a survey—it is the reawakening of our faith and identity," he said. Singh emphasised that Sambhal is a sacred land deeply rooted in Sanatan Dharma, with references in scriptures like the Skanda Purana as the future birthplace of Lord Kalki. He highlighted Sambhal's glorious past, from the reign of the Panchal kings and Emperor Ashoka to its political significance under Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan and Mughal rule. He said the 1529 demolition of the Harihar Mandir, reportedly replaced by a mosque on Babur's orders, is documented in the Baburnama and Ain-i-Akbari. Singh also recalled the 1978 communal violence that led to over 180 Hindu deaths and a sharp demographic shift. The recent reopening of an ancient Shiva temple after 46 years, he said, marks the symbolic return of Sanatan spirit. Singh hailed the high court's stand as bold and truthful, stating that it has reaffirmed the nation's spiritual and cultural consciousness.
