Ludhiana: Tensions escalated in the local civic politics over the weekend, with BJP councillors continuing an overnight protest at the municipal corporation's Zone D office, demanding an apology from mayor Inderjit Kaur for alleged misbehaviour during a meeting on Friday. The councillors, joined by members of the Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal, have vowed to gherao all MC zonal offices from Monday if the mayor does not apologise. The standoff marks a rare instance of cross-party unity, with opposition leaders accusing the mayor of undermining elected representatives and marginalising BJP-held wards. "This is not about personal agendas," said BJP district president Rajnesh Dhiman. "All councillors are elected by the people and deserve equal respect.
