Chhattisgarh reluctant to hand over Maoist leader Kesava's body, say family members
SRIKAKULAM: Suspense continues as the government has yet to hand over the body of slain top Maoist leader Namballa Kesava Rao to his family, who are eager to perform the last rites. The Maoist general secretary was killed in an encounter in Narayanpur Chhattisgarh on May 21. Following the encounter, family members, particularly his two brothers, Dhilleswara Rao and Ram Prasad, initiated efforts to bring his mortal remains back to his native village from Chhattisgarh to conduct the last rites according to their customs. 'We have been trying to retrieve Kesava Rao's body and met the senior police officials in both Narayanpur and Srikakulam district in this regard. However, they denied our request, saying it is a policy matter of the government,' Kesava Rao's elder brother, N Dhilleswara Rao, told TNIE. N'pur police dilly-dallying even after HC order: Family 'We approached the AP High Court on Friday, and the court issued an order in our favour. My other brother, Ram Prasad, along with some relatives, went to Narayanpur and presented a copy of the High Court's order to the authorities. Still, there has been no positive response from the police,' he added. Ram Prasad said, 'We've been waiting here for the past three days after submitting our Aadhaar cards to the Narayanpur police to confirm our identity. Yet, they continue to send us back and forth between the district hospital and the police authorities, without any clear assurance of handing over the body. Interestingly, the police officials are now asking us to provide a recent family photograph with Kesava Rao. This is impossible as he had joined the Maoist movement nearly five decades ago. How can we produce a recent photo with him?' Meanwhile, Dhilleswara Rao is planning to file another petition before the HC on Monday, seeking implementation of the earlier order. Advocates associated with Left parties are also reportedly considering approaching the Supreme Court by filing a special leave petition. Various Left party organizations have decided to meet the Srikakulam SP on Monday, according to information received by this newspaper.

Tiger kills farmer in Pilibhit, 2nd fatal attack in area in 5 days
Pilibhit: A tiger killed a 45-year-old farmer in Pilibhit on Sunday afternoon, the second such fatal attack in the district's Seramau North area within five days. Ram Prasad, a resident of Chatipur village, was attacked while he was irrigating his sugarcane field near Haripur Kishanpur village around 4.30pm, causing panic in the nearby villages and fresh resentment towards forest authorities. Local farmers working in adjacent plots said the animal pounced on him suddenly. By the time they rushed to help, the tiger had already killed him and retreated into the jungle. In protest, villagers staged a demonstration against the forest department and accused officials of indifference and negligence. On Tuesday, 50-year-old Hansraj from Nazirgang village was mauled to death while irrigating his field around 10pm. His son and several villagers witnessed the tiger feeding on parts of his body. Both incidents occurred within a 200-metre radius of the Khutar forest range in Shahjahanpur district, which shares a boundary with Pilibhit. Locals claim that a tigress and a tiger have been roaming the area for nearly a month. Despite alerting the forest department multiple times, villagers said officials took no action to secure the area or warn residents. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch Bitcoin và Ethereum - Không cần ví! IC Markets BẮT ĐẦU NGAY Undo Assistant conservator of forest, Shahjahanpur, Sushil Kumar said, "We are trying to pacify the villagers so the body can be sent for autopsy." He added that five field teams had been tracking the tiger's movement since Hansraj's death and that over six camera traps were already installed in the area. Kumar admitted that the field where Ram Prasad was attacked lay remarkably close to the forest. He said the number of field teams and camera traps would be increased to step up monitoring and combing operations. However, the forest department is yet to confirm if the same tiger was responsible for both killings. Kumar said the animal involved in Tuesday's attack had not been identified, and investigations were ongoing to determine whether one or more tigers were involved.
