Where We Are Going Today: ‘Kaia' at Shangri-La Jeddah
Kaia is an outdoor rooftop lounge at Shangri-La Jeddah, offering a stunning seaside view. From here, you can see the Formula 1 circuit, and Aroya, the Saudi Cruise, beautifully lit with neon 'Ramadan Mubarak' signs, creating a mesmerizing atmosphere. If you are looking for a peaceful escape from the crowded streets and the hustle and bustle of Ramadan and Eid, Kaia is the perfect spot. This year, we were blessed with pleasant evening weather, making outdoor seating even more enjoyable — except for a few mosquito bites, which were slightly annoying. I chose to sit by the swimming pool for a sahoor experience, as Kaia offers a Japanese-Hawaiian-Asian-inspired menu. I started with the hazelnut chicken salad, which is made with Chinese cabbage, red chilli, coriander, cucumber, grilled chicken, carrots, peanut sauce and fish sauce. The flavors were well balanced, with a mix of crunch and creaminess. Next, I tried the prawn tempura tacos, featuring crispy panko-fried prawns, avocado, creamy sesame cabbage and Japanese mayo with a hint of chilli. The tacos were light, crispy and packed with flavor. I was in the mood for meat, so I opted for the Korean smoked lamb chops, served with gochujang sauce, sweet potato puree, broccolini and garlic thyme olive oil. The lamb was tender and flavorful, with a perfect balance of smokiness and spice. I also ordered the ribeye steak, a succulent cut of beef served with buttered vegetables and mashed potatoes. It was cooked to perfection and incredibly satisfying. For drinks, I tried the signature passion fruit mojito, featuring homemade passion fruit puree, lime juice, fresh mint and soda water. This one had a tropical sweetness with just the right amount of citrus. For dessert, I chose stone baked, a decadent dark chocolate fondant with preserved cherries and hazelnut caramel. It was rich, gooey and an absolute delight. During Ramadan, Kaia offers a sahoor tray featuring Middle Eastern classics such as cheese, foul, pickles, kibbeh, hummus, grape leaves, muhammara and chicken breast with freekeh. On regular nights, Kaia entertains guests with live music, drumming performances, and singers from around the world performing in both Arabic and English. It is a great place to unwind on weekends and experience Jeddah's vibrant nightlife. The minimum charge is SR150 ($40) per person. The menu is pricier, but the quality, flavors and ambience make it worth it. Kaia also offers shisha and coffee for those looking to relax. For more details, visit Kaia's Instagram page @

Al-Futtaim Toyota personalises Ramadan with ‘Yours to Celebrate'
This Ramadan, Al-Futtaim Toyota and Memac Ogilvy have teamed together in an effort to redefine how consumers celebrate — by turning traditional greetings into a personal expression of meaning and choice. The campaign draws its inspiration from traditional greetings during the holy month. 'We always wish Ramadan Kareem and Ramadan Mubarak—'Kareem' meaning generous, and 'Mubarak' meaning blessed. These greetings have become second nature, to the point where we no longer realise that Kareem and Mubarak are also names. In fact, names across the region all carry meaning—direct meaning. So why stop at Kareem and Mubarak?', said Katib Belkhodja, Marketing Director, Al-Futtaim – Toyota & Lexus. Therefore, the campaign selects various names within the region, in an effort to personalise the season of Ramadan. 'Why wouldn't Uncle Saeed, whose name literally means 'happy,' wish you a Ramadan Saeed? Or your niece Hanan, meaning 'compassion,' wish you a Ramadan Hanan? After all, everyone experiences Ramadan in their own unique way. For some, it's a time of pure reflection or personal growth; for others, it could lean more towards connection and community building. Al-Futtaim Toyota reminds us that every Ramadan is welcome, no matter how you celebrate,' Belkhodja said. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Toyota UAE (@toyotauae) The series of short-form videos hope to champion personalisation during the holy month. The creative team claims this was done to emphasise that just as every Ramadan is personal, the way a consumer chooses to celebrate it should be too. The campaign also offers a call-to-action to engage with Al-Futtaim Toyota's range of Ramadan benefits tailored to its consumer's individual needs. 'Whether it's flexibility, peace of mind, or added value, you have the freedom to select an offer that works for you—because just like your name, your Ramadan should reflect what matters most to you,' Belkhodja said. To bring this personalised celebration to life and highlight their range of offers, Yours to Celebrate has been launched as an integrated campaign, filled with engaging content, on-ground activations, and dynamic social experiences. 'During Ramadan, we tend to know what to expect from brands: templated messages with vague well-wishes. 'Yours to Celebrate' offers a fresh perspective on this special occasion, making Ramadan feel truly personal while seamlessly bringing Toyota's offers to life with meaning and relevance,' Belkhodja concluded. Muscat adorned with colourful Ramadan decorations
Muscat – Muscat Municipality has adorned the city with colourful Ramadan decorations, adding a festive atmosphere to several iconic locations across the capital. From Muttrah Souq to the entrance of Seeb, the city is celebrating the holy month with displays that reflect cultural pride and the spirit of the occasion. Key landmarks, including Muttrah Gate, Royal Opera House Muscat and Sultan Qaboos Street, have been illuminated with bright displays and sculptures. These decorations celebrate Ramadan and add a festive touch. Sulaiman al Balushi, a resident of Muttrah, was awestruck by the lights adorning Muttrah Gate. 'It even has 'Ramadan Mubarak' written on it. This is the first time we've seen such a display; it's really adding to the festivities. The blue lights shining on the gate beautifully highlight the area's cultural and historical significance,' he said. Balushi believes the decorations will encourage more visitors and boost local shopping and tourism during Ramadan. Salem al Hosni, a taxi driver, shared his excitement over the decorations near Royal Opera House Muscat. 'I like the installations in front of Opera House. These reflect our Islamic heritage and carry the message of Ramadan, adding a lively touch to the area, especially when lit up in the evening,' he remarked. In Seeb, there is a buzz among residents about crescent-shaped sculptures at key locations, including at the entrance of the wilayat and mosque near Seeb Market. 'These create a unique atmosphere and make you feel the spirit of Ramadan,' he said. Mohammed al Nabhani, another Seeb resident, highlighted the broader impact of the decorations. 'These decorations beautify the city and add to the Ramadan celebrations, while reflecting the hospitality and warmth that Oman is known for and fostering a sense of community and togetherness.' Festive lights have also been placed along Sultan Qaboos Street in Bausher, Ghala, Azaiba and near Muscat International Airport, further enhancing the city's celebratory ambiance. Nabhani believes these efforts could boost tourism while supporting local businesses in the process. Ramadan decorations in Muscat are enriching the city's cultural landscape and providing an unforgettable experience for both residents and tourists during the holy month.
