Cops from Jharkhand & West Bengal bust illegal firearms factory in Dhanbad, 5 held
Kolkata/Dhanbad: In a major crackdown on illegal arms manufacturing and interstate arms movement, a joint operation by Kolkata Police Special Task Force (STF) and Jharkhand Police STF led to the discovery of an improvised firearms factory in Dhanbad, resulting in five arrests on Thursday. The arrest came barely three days after the KP STF nabbed one Ramkrishna Majhi, a resident of Ketugram, with 120 rounds of ammunition after he alighted from a bus in Esplanade. The raid, conducted at a residence in Singra Basti village under Mahuda Police Station, uncovered a manufacturing unit producing 7.65 mm firearms. The operation was based on specific intelligence developed by Kolkata Police STF. Among those arrested were Murshid Ansari, 47, the co-owner of the factory and owner of the premises, along with four arms makers from Bihar's Munger district - Md. Sabbir, 32, Md. Mustafa, 42, Md. Mister, 35, and Md. Parvez, 30. According to police, the factory was equipped with large-scale weapon-making machinery and raw materials, including barrels, lathe machines, iron rods, hollow pipes, iron cutters, and other fabrication tools. SDPO Singh confirmed the arrest of five persons during the operation. Apart from the kingpin Murshid Ansari, the arrested individuals have been identified as Md. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với mức chênh lệch giá thấp nhất IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Mister, Md. Parwez, Md. Sabir Ansari alias Mussu, and Md. Mustafa Ansari alias Rinku—all residents of Munger district in Bihar, a region often linked to illegal arms trade. Police sources also revealed that Hina Parween, wife of Murshid Ansari, has been taken into custody for questioning, though her formal arrest has not been confirmed. The search operation yielded four completed 7.65 mm improvised firearms, ten semi-finished firearms, seven finished magazines, and 22 semi-finished magazines. Additionally, authorities seized nine rounds of 7.65 mm live cartridges, manufacturing equipment including vice machines, drill machines, a grinding polishing machine, and substantial quantities of raw materials. A case was registered at Mahuda Police Station under multiple sections of the Arms Act, including sections 25(1-B)(a), 25(1-A), 25(1-AA), 26(i), and 26(ii). Earlier, the ammunition recovered from Majhi, comprising 100 rounds of 8 mm and 20 rounds of 7.65 mm cartridges, was reportedly sourced from Bihar, with possible connections to Jharkhand. Earlier this year, on March 30, the STF arrested a couple in Anandapur, including Moyna Majhi from Ketugram, with eleven illegal single-shooter firearms. Police are investigating potential connections between these incidents and the broader illegal arms network in the region. Authorities have intensified their investigation to uncover additional links and possible recipients of these illegal weapons in Kolkata and surrounding areas.

Youth held at Kolkata's Esplanade bus stand with 120 cartridges
The accused, Ramakrishna Majhi, hails from Ketugram KOLKATA: A youth carrying 120 cartridges in a rucksack was arrested by the Kolkata Police Special Task Force (STF) at Esplanade crossing on Sunday. Police said Ramkrishna Majhi, a resident of Ketugram, was nabbed by cops in plainclothes after he alighted from a bus at L20 terminus in Esplanade. He was found carrying a ticket of Mecheda in East Midnapore. Initial investigation suggested that the cartridges were brought from Bihar. Of 120 rounds of ammunition seized, 100 were 8 mm and 20 were 7.65 mm ammunition. Investigators suspect the youth was a handler of weapons and was trying to determine their intended recipients in Kolkata. Incidentally, on March 30 this year, a couple in their 30s was arrested with eleven illegal single-shooter firearms by the STF at Anandapur off EM Bypass. One of the two accused persons, Moyna Majhi (32), hailed from Ketugram in Burdwan. The arrest follows a series of recent firearm-related incidents in Kolkata, including an attempt to shoot councillor Sushanta Ghosh in Kasba. The Special Task Force has made several arrests in connection with trafficking of illegal arms in recent months. Operations across Kolkata, Jharkhand, Odisha and Bihar have led to multiple seizures of firearms and the discovery of illegal arms factories. Arms recoveries have been reported from Sealdah's Baithakkhana Market, too.
