Huma Abedin and fiancé Alex Soros put on united front at Met Gala after backlash over 'awkward' photoshoot

Huma Abedin and her billionaire husband-to-be Alex Soros put on a united front as they walked the Met Gala 2025 red carpet after going viral for their very awkward photoshoot that was just published hours before. The couple were among the celebrities in attendance at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday evening, after they were mocked for appearing in a 'tone-deaf' magazine feature from The New Yorker. Appearing at the star-studded event, Huma, 49, oozed glamor in a cream ruched corset with a black trailing black skirt. She accessorized her ensemble with huge statement diamond earrings and a bold red lip. Her partner, 39, wore a black suit and matched Huma's corset top by wearing a bow tie in the same color fabric. Showing their unbreakable bond, Alex wrapped his arm around Huma's waist as they posed for photographers. Their show of solidarity comes after they were ridiculed online earlier in the day, after they appeared in the article named 'Power Houses Inside the living rooms of notable New Yorkers' alongside the likes of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Emily Ratajkowski. In the piece, the couple showed off their ritzy high-rise apartment in NoHo with Alex positioned on the sofa as the political staffer stood beside him, holding his hand. They were both dressed in a similar shade of green. Neither party was smiling. The image went viral on social media shortly after, with users poking fun at Alex and his recent focus on fighting oligarchy and Trump while inside a plush pad with expansive views across the city. They also hit out at the couple for appearing miserable. Taking to X, formerly Twitter, one noted: 'Could they be farther apart?' 'Here's a prime example where money doesn't bring happiness,' another said. A third added: 'Don't they look joyful.' 'Gosh how happy do they look,' wrote another. A fifth said: 'Have you ever seen a more dismal pair? What is it, with these people, that they think this is appealing? Does this inspire you?' Huma and Alex got engaged in June 2024 but kept it a secret until weeks later. It wasn't until early July, after reports emerged that said they were getting married, that the couple confirmed they were indeed gearing up to walk down the aisle together. 'This happened… we couldn't be happier, more grateful, or more in love,' Alex wrote on his Instagram Stories at the time, alongside a snap from the moment he got down on one knee. Huma was previously married to disgraced New York politician Anthony Weiner. She and Alex, who has been named as the heir to his father's $25 billion empire, first revealed that they were dating on Valentine's Day, when they shared a PDA-filled snap from Paris. They reportedly met through a mutual friend and have been traveling together over the summer. They then made their red carpet debut when they attended the Met Gala together in May 2024. Alex is the son of Hungarian-American businessman George Soros. The 94-year-old billionaire is known for his philanthropy, with George having donated more than $32 billion to his organization Open Society Foundations, which gives grants to groups and individuals that promote democratic principles and human rights. In addition to son Alex, George, who has been married three times, also has children Andrea, Gregory, Robert, and Jonathan.

Emily Ratajkowski Slams All-Female Blue Origin Space Flight: 'Privilege Is Not an Accomplishment'

Emily Ratajkowski has joined the conversation surrounding Blue Origin's all-female space flight and feels it's 'not an accomplishment.' The model-actress took to her TikTok on Monday to share her thoughts, shortly after Katy Perry, Gayle King and Jeff Bezos' fiancée Lauren Sánchez were among six women who flew to the edge of space on the Amazon founder's Blue Origin spaceflight. More from The Hollywood Reporter Katy Perry, Lauren Sánchez, Gayle King Blast Into Space and Back on Blue Origin Flight Hollywood and Silicon Valley Collide at Breakthrough Prize Ceremony, With Science Celebrated and Trump Slammed Why Hollywood Feuds Aren't What They Used to Be 'That space mission this morning, that's end-time shit. Like, this is beyond parody,' she began. 'Saying that you care about Mother Earth, and it's about Mother Earth, and going up in a spaceship that is built and paid for by a company that's single-handedly destroying the planet? Look at the state of the world, and think about how many resources went into putting these women into space, and for what? For what, what was the marketing there? And then to try to make it like … I'm disgusted. Literally, I'm disgusted.' Ratajkowski isn't the first to criticize the latest space expedition, as Olivia Munn questioned the purpose of the mission earlier this month. 'I know this is probably not the cool thing to say, but there are so many other things that are so important in the world right now,' she said in part. 'What are you guys going to do up in space?' On Tuesday, the We Are Your Friends actress returned to TikTok to expand on her thoughts about the Blue Origin flight, which also carried film producer Kerianne Flynn, former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe and research scientist Amanda Nguyen on its 11th manned mission. 'I think that this space mission is confusing to people because seeing women and people of color in spaces like science and politics that have not previously included them feels and looks like, really looks like — optically looks like — progress,' Ratajkowski said in her latest video. 'But the truth is, is that having a man who has gained his power and become a part of the one percent purely through exploitation and greed deciding to take his fiancée and a few other famous women to space for space tourism is not progress.' She continued, 'It just speaks to the fact that we are absolutely living in an oligarchy, where there is a very small group of people who are interested in going to space for the sake of getting a new lease on life while the rest of the population — most people on Planet Earth — are worried about paying rent, or, you know, having dinner for their kids.' Ratajkowski also echoed what she claimed another creator said, ''Privilege is not an accomplishment,'' adding, 'Exploitation is certainly not an accomplishment, and being able to take the privilege that you have gained from exploitation and greed of the planet, of resources, of human beings, and then doing something like going to space for 11 minutes, is certainly not an accomplishment.' 'That's why this all is giving Hunger Games, right?' she concluded. 'Because I think we're in a place in the world where we need to be able to discern what real progress looks like, and what happened yesterday was nothing like that.' Sánchez and King responded to backlash during a post-trip press conference on Monday, with the CBS Morning co-anchor saying, 'I feel anybody that's criticizing doesn't really understand what's happening here. We've all heard it. We were even all talking about that.' King also urged critics to do a 'deep dive' into what the flight represents for some people. 'I would love to have [critics] come to Blue Origin and see the thousands of employees that don't just work here, but they put their heart and soul into this vehicle,' Sánchez added. 'They love their work and they love the mission and it's a big deal for them.' That Blue Origin flight was a success but isn't landing well among some stars: ‘Disgusted'

Earth to Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin: This week's fleeting space launch featuring an all-female crew was a wasteful, performative and tone-deaf endeavor reminiscent of the 'Hunger Games' dystopia — according to author, model and actor Emily Ratajkowski. The outspoken 'My Body' writer did not mince words Tuesday as she continued to criticize Monday's Blue Origin flight that launched six women including Katy Perry, Gayle King and Bezos' fiancée Lauren Sanchez into space. The endeavor, which had been heavily hyped and promoted for more than a month, lasted only 11 minutes from takeoff to landing. (Previous Blue Origin flights, including the 2021 launch with 'Star Trek' icon William Shatner, were equally as brief.) Ratajkowski dissected the New Shepard rocket mission in a TikTok video posted Tuesday morning, claiming that the women-led initiative was not as progressive as it seemed. While Monday's celebrity launch was the nation's first spaceflight where women filled each seat and 'optically looks like progress,' Ratajkowski alleged, the 'truth' was that Amazon executive Bezos just wanted to 'take his fiancée and a few other famous women to space for space tourism.' 'It just speaks to the fact that we are absolutely living in an oligarchy where there is a small group of people who are interested in going to space for the sake of getting a new lease on life while the rest of the population, most people on planet Earth, are worried about paying rent or having dinner for their kids,' she said. She added elsewhere in her video: 'Being able to take the privilege that you have gained from exploitation and greed of the planet, of resources of human beings, and doing something like going to space for 11 minutes is not an accomplishment.' Tuesday's video was the second Ratajkowski shared reacting to Monday's launch. In a clip posted shortly after the Blue Origin crew returned to Earth, Ratajkowski said the space trip resembled 'end times s—' and was 'beyond parody.' She also called out the discrepancies between the environmental messaging surrounding the flight and the resources expended to send the women to space. 'I'm disgusted,' she said. Blue Origin, founded in 2000 by Bezos, declined Monday to say how much the flight, a quick up-and-down trip from west Texas, cost or who paid for what. The launch precedes Sanchez and Bezos' Venice, Italy, wedding in two months. Ratajkowski hasn't been the only star to express disdain for the Blue Origin flight on social media. 'Don't Worry Darling' director-actor Olivia Wilde in a since-expired Instagram story reacted to the flurry of jokes inspired by the launch. 'Billion dollars bought some good memes I guess,' she said sarcastically. Comedian Amy Schumer also poked fun at the flight Monday, joking she was a last-minute addition to the eclectic female crew. 'I'm going to space and thank you to everyone who got me here and I'll see you in space,' she said in an intentionally vapid-sounding voice, repeating the word 'space' numerous times. Even before Blue Origin's New Shepard lifted off with film producer Kerianne Flynn, scientist Amanda Nguyen, former NASA engineer Aisha Bowe and the others in tow, 'Your Friends and Neighbors' star Olivia Munn dubbed the spaceflight a 'gluttonous' stunt. During her April 3 guest spot on 'Today With Jenna and Friends,' Munn questioned the purpose of the trip amid more pressing societal and political issues. 'It's so much money to go to space and there's a lot of people who can't even afford eggs,' she said before further scrutinizing media coverage of the endeavor. After returning from space, 'CBS Mornings' co-host King told People on Monday that critics 'don't really understand what is happening here' and said she and her fellow passengers have heard 'from young women, from young girls about what this represents.' Sanchez took another approach to the criticism, telling the outlet she invites skeptics to 'come to Blue Origin and see the thousands of employees' that she said have devoted themselves to the New Shepard and the mission. The author and journalist, engaged to billionaire Bezos for nearly two years, added: 'When we hear comments like that, I just say, 'Trust me. Come with me. I'll show you what this is about, and it's, it's really eye-opening.'' The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Emily Ratajkowski Says She's ‘Disgusted' By Katy Perry's Trip To Space, And Many Agree

Emily Ratajkowski is pointing out how Katy Perry's trip to space didn't seem to have much of a point. On Monday, the successful model and author very candidly expressed her thoughts about Jeff Bezos' rocket company, Blue Origins, sending six women, including the 'Fireworks' singer, into space earlier that day. The flight on the company's New Shepard spacecraft, which also included other noteworthy passengers — including journalist Gayle King and Bezos' fiancée, Lauren Sánchez — lasted roughly 11 minutes round trip. 'That space mission this morning? That's end-time shit. Like, this is beyond parody,' Ratajkowski said in a TikTok published to her account Monday. 'Saying that you care about Mother Earth and it's about Mother Earth, and you're going up in a spaceship that is built and paid for by a company that's single-handedly destroying the planet?' Ratajkowski continued, 'Look at the state of the world and think about how many resources went into putting these women into space. For what? What was the marketing there?' 'And then to try to make it…' Ratajkowski said, before trailing off. 'I'm disgusted. Literally, I'm disgusted.' Ratajkowski did make some valid points in her video. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration conducted a study in 2022 that found that the significant uptick in spaceflight activity, thanks to tourism companies like Blue Origin, could damage Earth's ozone layer. 'Kerosene-burning rocket engines widely used by the global launch industry emit exhaust containing black carbon, or soot, directly into the stratosphere,' NOAA said in 2022. And although it's unclear how much the whole fiasco cost, it's safe to assume it was likely pretty pricey. In 2021, Blue Origins revealed the highest bid for a seat on its New Shepard spacecraft was $28 million, Reuters reports. The outlet also noted that not all passengers have to pay for their seat, however, being that William Shatner of 'Star Trek' fame flew free of charge that same year. It's also unclear why these six women were sent to space. But the Blue Origins marketing department sure wants you to believe that the launch was some big 'girl power' win for feminism because it marked the first time in over 60 years that women have gone to space solo. Perry also lent her signature hamminess to hype up her visit to space as more than just a glorified ad for a travel company. She sang 'What a Wonderful World' for her fellow passengers while they were in zero gravity; kissed the ground with utmost respect for the Earth once they landed; and made a show of honoring her 4-year-old daughter Daisy Dove by emerging from the rocket's capsule proudly holding a daisy over her head. But Ratajkowski isn't the only one who refused to buy into Blue Origin's spin that this flight was somehow significant. Ratajkowski's TikTok video received over 4,000 comments, and many users expressed similar frustrations. Many called the space flight 'incredibly out of touch' and pointed out that Bezos' other company, Amazon, has halted some of its DEI programs, making the feminist slant of the launch hypocritical. 'Dying at the fact Katy Perry 100% thinks it's peak feminism, like, no one has done more in the name of feminism than what she did by getting on that ship,' one TikToker said. 'They acted like it was a win for feminism. The money used to send them to space could have been used to actually help women in so many ways,' another user pointed out. 'THE FLIGHT LASTED 11 MINS HOW WAS IT WORTH ALL THAT,' said another. 'That money could've gone to literally any other marginalized group! Single mothers, foster children, mental health services, terminally ill etc,' a TikToker wrote.
