9 more private schools in Ludhiana under fire for operating without approval

Ludhiana: A recent inspection by the district education officer (elementary) office revealed that at least nine institutions have been operating without recognition from the education department. These schools have been issued show-cause notices for failing to produce the required documents under the RTE Act, 2009. They have been given two days to submit a clarification, failing which legal action will be initiated against them. The letter sent to the schools states that a team from the DEO (elementary) office conducted inspections around four days ago, during which the school authorities failed to provide the necessary permissions and documents required to operate. The schools identified include Islamia Arbia Mahdul Aamin on Tibba Road, where 355 students are enrolled in Classes 1 to 8. Another institution, Madrassa Islamia Arbia in Mayapuri Mohalla near Ik Minara Masjid, was found to have 157 students from Classes 1 to 5. Sarasvati Vidya Mandir Convent School, with 15 students from Nursery to Class 3, also failed to provide the required documents during the inspection. In Ramgarh village, Maharaja English Model School was found to have 29 students from Nursery to Class 7, also without permission. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Memperdagangkan CFD Emas dengan salah satu spread terendah? IC Markets Mendaftar Undo The principal and manager of BVM Grammar School in Dhandari Kalan, where 120 students are enrolled from Nursery to Class 7, have also been issued a notice for violating the RTE Act. Origin Public School in Rangian village had 49 students from Nursery to Class 7 without valid permissions. Janta Model School in the Giaspura area was found operating without legal sanction, with 46 students enrolled. BBN Grammar School in Harnampura, with 102 students from Nursery to Class 8, was also issued a notice demanding a response within two days. Additionally, Arsh Public School in Butta village, Dehlon Block, was found to have 26 students from Nursery to Class 5 studying without the necessary approvals. Notably, the district education office (elementary) had recently sent such notices to two schools and ordererd their shutdown, as they failed to provide the documents that allowed them to operate. Thereafter, the students of these schools were admitted to nearby govt schools. The recent inspections by DEO (elementary) Ravinder Kaur have revealed how these so-called schools are being run with impunity in the district. Several of these schools were not only operating without permissions, but were also compromising the safety of students and their future. Such schools tie up with regular schools and get their students enrolled for board exams through these schools. The DEO (elementary) had earlier stated that action would also be taken against schools that assist such illegal schools by enrolling students for exams. Meanwhile, teachers have hailed the DEO's action against such illegal schools. "It's good that the DEO office is taking such action. These schools not only charge hefty fees from parents but also jeopardise students' futures by operating without proper permissions. The education department should conduct such inspections regularly, and parents must also become more aware of such malpractice," a schoolteacher said.

Ludhiana: Notices slapped on 9 pvt schools operating without registration

Some of these institutions—particularly some madrasas—have been running for years without offering formal education as defined by law, says DEO An inspection drive led by district education officer (elementary) Ravinder Kaur has uncovered violations by several private schools operating without legal registration or adherence to minimum standards under the Right to Education (RTE) Act in Ludhiana district. The inspections, conducted between May 3 and May 15, revealed that at least nine institutions have been functioning without recognition from the education department or inclusion in the UDISE (unified district information system for education) database. The DEO's team visited schools such as Islamia Arbia Mahdul, Saraswati Vidya Mandir Convent School, Maharaja English Model School (Ramgarh), BVM Grammar School (Dhandari Kalan), Madrasa Islamia Arbia, Origin Public School, Janta Model School (Giaspura), Arsh Public School and BBN Grammar School (Harnampura). All these schools were issued show-cause notices on Monday and given two days to present valid documentation at the district education office. One of the most glaring cases was Islamia Arbia Mahdul, which had 355 students from Classes 1 to 8 but was found to be operating entirely outside the legal framework of the RTE Act. Similarly, Maharaja English Model School was found to have 29 students enrolled from nursery to Class 7, and BVM Grammar School had 120 students, all without proper recognition or compliance. Ravinder Kaur said that several of these institutions—particularly some madrasas—have been running for years without offering formal education as defined by law. During inspections, she urged madrasa heads to facilitate student transfers to nearby government schools to ensure access to recognised and quality education. Following directives from the state education department, a six-member committee has been formed under the DEO's leadership. This team, which includes block primary officers and education department officials, will continue to assess private schools for compliance with the RTE Act, 2009, and Punjab RTE Rules, 2011. Schools have also been directed to prepare certified documents for verification, including building and fire safety certificates, sanitation reports, clean drinking water availability, and transport safety protocols. The committee's findings will be compiled into a report for submission to the state government to initiate further action.

DEO orders 2 illegal schools to be shut down for violating RTE norms

Ludhiana: In a major crackdown on unauthorised educational institutions , district education officer (elementary), Ravinder Kaur, ordered the immediate closure of two private schools operating without recognition under the Right to Education (RTE) Act, 2009. The schools, Prerna Academy in Sherpur Kalan and Sarthak Academy on Tibba Road, were found to be running illegally. During inspections by the DEO (elementary) office team, it was found that Prerna Academy had 65 students enrolled from Classes I to V, while Sarthak Academy was catering to 96 students from Classes I to VII. Neither school had approval from the education department and both lacked the basic infrastructure and qualified staff required under RTE norms. Upon inspection, school representatives claimed they were merely operating tuition centres. However, further investigation revealed that academic activities were being conducted on the premises with no proper infrastructure. DEO (elementary) Ravinder Kaur, who is personally leading the enforcement drive across the district, said the students in these schools would be admitted in nearby govt schools according to their classes. This action is part of a broader campaign initiated by the Ludhiana education department to ensure that all schools comply with RTE guidelines. Following the shutdown of Prerna and Sarthak Academies, a surprise inspection was also carried in the Giaspura area, where several other unauthorised institutions were found operating in substandard conditions. Among the schools inspected were Maa Sharda School, Government Flats, Maa Sharda School, Giaspura, Bright Future School, and Gopal Vatika School, in Viaspura area. None of these schools had applied for or received recognition under the RTE Act. The inspection team found overcrowded classrooms, absence of desks, unhygienic toilets, unsafe drinking water, and untrained teachers. Moreover, students above the age of 15 were found enrolled in primary classes, which is another violation of the RTE Act. In response, the education department launched a targeted admission drive under the 2025-26 enrollment campaign. Over 100 children from the affected areas were immediately admitted to nearby govt schools, about 100 at Government Primary School Lohara and 19 at Government Primary School Giaspura. DEO Ravinder Kaur was joined by Vishal Mittal, MIS coordinator, along withother staff during the inspection and enrollment drive. The education department has warned that further action will be taken against any unrecognised institution operating in violation of the RTE Act.

Ludhiana: Response sought from four unrecognised schools

The district education officer (elementary education) came across several private educational institutions operating without the mandatory recognition under the Right to Education (RTE) Act during surprise checks on Tuesday. The exercise was aimed at cracking down on unrecognised schools, officials said. Notices were issued to Maa Sharda School, Bright Future School and Gopal Vatika School, all in Giaspura, besides another branch of Maa Sharda School in government flats, said district education officer (elementary) Ravinder Kaur. The schools have been asked to submit their responses in two days and further action will be taken accordingly, officials said, adding they discovered that none of these schools had applied for RTE recognition and also they were sans documentation from the district education office. The DEO said, 'The inspection revealed alarming conditions. Students were being taught in overcrowded and poorly ventilated rooms with inadequate furniture. Many classrooms lacked basic infrastructure, such as desks, clean drinking water and hygienic toilets. There was also a clear absence of trained teachers, raising concerns about the quality of education being provided.' 'Many of the students enrolled in these institutions were over the age of 15 and still studying in primary-level classes, a violation of age-specific provisions under the Right to Education Act,' she said. Alongside the inspections, the education department also pushed forward with its 2025-26 school admission campaign. The DEO led the campaign at government flats in Giaspura, creating awareness among parents and local residents. The campaign resulted in over 102 children being enrolled in Government Primary School, Lohara, and 19 more at Government Primary School, Giaspura, on the spot. 'The appeal was met with a positive response as many parents agreed to shift their children to government-run institutions, recognising the need for quality and regulated education,' said Kaur. The inspection and admission drive were supported by key education officials, including Vishal Mittal (MIS coordinator), Major Singh, Baldev Singh (Sudhar), Rajinder Kumar, Swarnjeet Kaur (CHT, Dhandari Kalan School), and Avtar Singh (Government Primary School, Lohara).
