Gagnon will receive the Elmer Ferguson Memorial Award for excellence in hockey journalism. Reaugh earns the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award for outstanding contributions as a broadcaster. Gagnon has covered the Montreal Canadiens for over three decades with RDS, La Presse and others. Reaugh, a former goaltender with the Edmonton Oilers and Hartford Whalers, has spent 28 seasons as the Dallas Stars' television colour analyst and worked on national NHL broadcasts. 'Stars can flush then in relatively short order': quick victory over Oilers, predicts official Dallas podcaster
Article content My take 1. The Oilers and the Stars are both NHL titans. Either team could win this series. As for Reaugh's notion that the Stars might well 'flush' the Oilers in rapid succession, it's highly unlikely, given how well Edmonton just played in winning eight of its last nine playoff games against two strong teams, Vegas and Los Angeles. 2. That said, I fear Dallas. In the golden modern era of the Oilers in the playoffs, 2022-25, the team has played 11 series and won eight of them, losing only to the Avs in 2022, Vegas in 2023 and Florida in 2024, all three teams winning the Stanley Cup after beating Edmonton. But in two of those lost series, the Oilers had an edge in the flow of play, in Grade A shots, getting 2.5 per game more than Vegas in 2023 and 4.3 per game more than Florida in 2024. Essentially the Oilers lost those series because the other team had an edge in goaltending.
