REBEL MOON Video Game Launches on Netflix as Zack Snyder Teases Franchise Future and Admits FORTNITE Obsession — GeekTyrant

Netflix is expanding its Rebel Moon universe beyond the screen with the launch of Blood Line , an online co-op action game set in Zack Snyder's sci-fi world. Developed by Super Evil Megacorp, the team behind Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate and Vainglory , the game lets players take on the role of rebels rising against the tyrannical Motherworld. Exclusive to Netflix subscribers, the game is free to play via the Netflix app. Snyder said in an interview with Variety ahead of the game's release: 'I'm a giant 'Fortnite' fan, I play tons of 'Fortnite.' So for me, I really don't have huge experience with campaign-style games. That's cool and it's not really my gaming experience, so it's fun to kind of get in that head space. And they really, honestly, they're just super smart about that stuff. And I was really amazed at the level of detail. 'And when I say the level of detail, of course, everything is detailed — but the sort of narrative detail, where they really kind of giving you these exciting boss fights that make you better, because they kind of teach you how to play.' Blood Line ties directly into Snyder's Rebel Moon films, which kicked off with Part One: A Child of Fire in December 2023, followed by Part Two: The Scargiver in April 2024. Both movies received limited theatrical runs before hitting Netflix. While fans might be wondering if more films are on the horizon, Snyder isn't ready to confirm. For now, he's focused on an entirely different project for Netflix: an untitled LAPD SWAT action movie. 'I got sidetracked into this — not sidetracked, it's all uptown problems, as they say — for Netflix, I'm working on an LAPD SWAT movie. 'So I was like, OK, well, I'm gonna just sort of let that 'Rebel Moon' world boil for a minute, and I'm gonna go do this. And frankly, it was a very exhausting, long process doing the two movies together. 'So it was nice to have a bit of a break from it. I love it like crazy, but it's nice to have a bit of a break. So yeah, we'll see after I finish this, when I come back, where we are with everything.' As for whether scripts for future installments already exist, Snyder hinted the possibilities are limitless: 'There's tons of stories. So, I mean, I think it's literally, it's endless. But, again, like I say, I'm waiting to see how we want to and in what way we would move forward, if at all.' The Rebel Moon films were pretty terrible, though, so I'd be surprised if Netflix gave Snyder another couple hundred million to make a sequel. Regardless, you can check out the launch trailer for Blood Line: A Rebel Moon below and let us know if you'll be diving into this new chapter of Snyder's sci-fi saga?

Zack Snyder Can't Let ‘Rebel Moon' Die

Remember Rebel Moon? Netflix's two-part movie series created by Zack Snyder, released in late 2023 and early 2024, which then had two longer, bloodier versions released that same year? Snyder's answer to Star Wars, in which he created his own sci-fi world from the ground up? Ring a bell? If not, that's because they did well on the streamer but didn't quite resonate culturally like most probably hoped. Nevertheless, it seems Snyder isn't ready to give up on the franchise just yet. Case in point, Netflix just released Blood Line, a co-op campaign action game set in the Rebel Moon universe. More importantly, though, Snyder is leaving the door open to make more movies. 'I got sidetracked into this—not sidetracked, it's all uptown problems, as they say—for Netflix, I'm working on an LAPD SWAT movie,' Snyder told Variety. 'So I was like, 'Okay, well, I'm gonna just sort of let that Rebel Moon world boil for a minute, and I'm gonna go do this.' And frankly, it was a very exhausting, long process doing the two movies together. So it was nice to have a bit of a break from it. I love it like crazy, but it's nice to have a bit of a break. So yeah, we'll see after I finish this, when I come back, where we are with everything.' So it seems like a cop movie now, and maybe Rebel Moon later. Maybe. As for what it would be about, Snyder said it could be anything. 'There's tons of stories,' he said. 'So, I mean, I think it's literally, it's endless. But, again, like I say, I'm waiting to see how we want to and in what way we would move forward, if at all.' 'If at all' obviously makes it seem like maybe Rebel Moon is dead but, also, not. Personally, I think it was admirable that Snyder took such a big swing with the two, turned into four, sci-fi epics, but, frankly, they stunk. Do something else. Let it go. We just aren't sure he can. Are you a Rebel Moon fan? Do you want to see more in that world? Let us know below. Want more io9 news? Zack Snyder and Super Evil Megacorp team up for 'Rebel Moon' video game on Netflix

From cinematic spectacle to mobile mayhem, Zack Snyder's sci-fi epic expands in a bold new direction with the new Netflix game Blood Line: A Rebel Moon Game. Developed by the award-winning studio Super Evil Megacorp and launching exclusively for Netflix subscribers on July 15, the top-down co-op shooter offers a fresh rebellion, new characters, and a combat-rich evolution of the Rebel Moon universe. And if you ask Snyder, it's everything he's ever wanted. 'I've been playing it nonstop ever since I got it,' Snyder said in a special video message at a virtual roundtable ahead of the game's release. 'It allowed me to expand the Rebel Moon universe in a way I didn't believe possible. I've been really astonished to see it in game form. It's so cool.' About the game Set after the events of Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver, Blood Line introduces an original story centred on a new band of rebel recruits rising up against the tyrannical Imperium. While the world may look familiar to fans of Snyder's space opera, the protagonists are anything but. The game's narrative digs into the Krypteia, a brutal faction introduced in the films as the Imperium's elite enforcers. But this time, the spotlight shifts. 'When [Super Evil Megacorp] approached me, they were like, 'What about the Krypteia warriors? Maybe we use them as the main characters,'' Snyder recalled. 'And I was like, well, how do we do that? They're the bad guys! But through a series of creative back-and-forth, we came up with this really cool idea… What if a rift formed between the Krypteia and the Imperium after a thousand years of alignment? What if that exploded into a planet-wide rebellion?' This backstory sets the stage for a high-stakes campaign across the planet Krypt, where players will fight through biomes ranging from frozen prison camps and scorched deserts to lush, mountainous strongholds. At its core, Blood Line is a top-down, action RPG shooter that blends lightning-fast combat with robust progression systems. Think Diablo meets Helldivers, but designed for mobile devices with console-quality polish. 'It's a Zack Snyder film,' said Game Director Robert Gallerani, 'so we need things blowing up and explosions happening everywhere. That always lends itself really well to a combat-centric game.' Players choose from four distinct classes: Bannerguard: Tank-like warriors who draw enemy fire. Evoker: Supportive healers with tactical range. Kindred: Agile ranged assassins. Forsaken: Melee stealth specialists. Each class comes with its own skillset, progression tree, and motivations for joining the rebellion, ensuring players not only fight differently, but think differently too. Whether going solo or teaming up with friends in 5-player online co-op, strategy and synergy are key. The developers promise deep replayability, mission variety, and an evolving endgame with ambitious challenges. 'There's some really interesting, deep content for people to aspire to,' said Executive Producer Sam Hart. 'It's the kind of thing where you grow in power and finally overcome something, and it just feels really good.' Built for mobile The game is launching exclusively through Netflix Games, meaning it's free for all subscribers with no ads, microtransactions, or hidden costs. 'We started developing the game as the films were still getting made,' Hart explained. 'We loved the themes around found family, and the contrast between the stark Imperium aesthetic and the homegrown rebellion. We worked a lot of that through the game, while still finding our own tone that shines on mobile.' But just because it's built for phones doesn't mean it's pulling any punches. The visual fidelity rivals console shooters, with dynamic lighting, cinematic effects, and environmental storytelling baked into every level. There's also room for player creativity. One of the game's hidden mechanics allows players to pick up explosive barrels and place them tactically, a feature the developers debated keeping secret. 'We weren't sure whether to teach players this or let them discover it,' Gallerani said. 'Eventually, someone figures it out and starts laying ambushes — like collecting all the barrels and building traps.' Blood Line is a deeper dive into a universe that continues to evolve. The first two films introduced us to the oppressive Motherworld and the heroes who rose against it, and the game is an expansion of the universe of sorts. And if the fan reception holds strong, Blood Line could mark the beginning of a broader Rebel Moon multiverse. 'You fans have inspired me at every turn,' Snyder said in the video. 'Mix up your strategy, mix up your build. It's not always about numbers getting bigger, sometimes the options you have should change.' Blood Line: A Rebel Moon Game is available starting July 15, exclusively on the Netflix mobile app.

Zack Snyder's first game, Rebel Moon: Blood Line, is Netflix's most ambitious yet

Super Evil Megacorp, the studio behind Vainglory, has partnered with Netflix to release Rebel Moon: Blood Line, a mobile action RPG set within the universe of Zack Snyder 's Rebel Moon films. Unveiled during a recent gameplay showcase, the developers offered a detailed look at the game's mechanics, narrative ambitions and collaborative development process with Snyder's creative team. With console-level visuals and mobile accessibility, Blood Line marks a notable step forward in Netflix's growing push into gaming. Snyder says that fan support for the series has "inspired me to return" to the world of Rebel Moon adding: "I can't wait for everyone to join the fight and team up with their friends." A cinematic mobile RPG Blood Line is a top-down, real-time co-operative action role-playing game. It is built specifically for mobile, using Super Evil Megacorp's proprietary Evil Engine, yet promises a console-quality experience with responsive touch controls and full gamepad support. Developers stress that this is no watered-down tie-in – Blood Line is a fully-fledged RPG designed from the ground up for mobile, combining visual fidelity with deep, engaging systems. Story and gameplay Players begin by taking on the role of a Banner Guard, a soldier who defects from the Imperium to join a burgeoning rebellion. The game unfolds on the planet Crypt – a key setting within the Rebel Moon universe – with missions spanning varied and hostile environments, from icy cliffs and sandstorms to militarised desert outposts. Unlike many sci-fi titles that span galaxies, Blood Line stays grounded on a single, richly detailed world. The game supports both solo and group play, allowing users to take on missions alone or through matching with others. There are four main character classes: Banner Guard, a tank wielding shields and heavy weapons; Forsaken, a melee specialist built for agility and close-range combat; Evoker, a support class using elemental powers such as lightning and fire; and Kindred, a long-range sniper with traps and armour-weakening abilities. Players are encouraged to switch classes and customise their builds, selecting gear and abilities to match their preferred style. It's a flexible system that rewards experimentation. Mission structure and co-op action During the showcase, the team presented a mission titled Sandstorm Raid, in which players infiltrate a dilapidated Imperium outpost to steal supplies. The mission featured dynamic, fast-paced combat, with players using a mix of melee strikes, healing beams, sniper fire and shield deployment. One standout mechanic allows players to reposition explosive barrels for ambushes – a feature intentionally unpublicised to encourage organic discovery. Visually, Blood Line impresses with high-fidelity graphics, dynamic lighting and fluid animations. Touchscreen controls are intuitive, and gamepad support ensures a seamless experience on larger devices. A companion to the Rebel Moon films Blood Line runs parallel to the events of Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire. As the rebellion builds on Veldt in the film, the game follows an uprising on Crypt. This narrative structure allows the game to expand the universe without rehashing on-screen events. While set in Snyder's world, the game stands on its own, with original characters and a self-contained story. No prior knowledge of the films is required, though fans will recognise shared visual motifs and themes. Collaboration with Snyder and his team was instrumental in shaping the game's tone and storytelling. His signature cinematic style is evident in the dramatic set pieces and large-scale battles that define Blood Line. Balancing depth and accessibility One of the development team's key challenges was designing a game that would appeal to both casual Netflix users and core gamers. Their solution is layered design: each mission features a primary objective, as well as optional challenges – such as time limits, hidden items or enemy targets – that reward more engaged play. Difficulty adjusts dynamically depending on player count, and support systems such as supply drops help solo players stay competitive. For more experienced players, Blood Line offers endgame War Zone missions that require advanced builds, teamwork and endurance. The game follows a seasonal structure, with regular content updates introducing new missions, enemies, gear and story elements. As the rebellion grows, so too does the game's scope and complexity – positioning Blood Line as a live, evolving experience rather than a static release. A mobile game with ambition The developers are especially proud of the game's polish and depth – qualities they believe will surprise players used to more limited mobile experiences. They also highlight the rarity of real-time co-operative play in the mobile space, and the game's ability to deliver that fluidly. Rebel Moon: Blood Line is far more than a promotional spin-off. It is a carefully crafted RPG that respects its source material without being shackled by it. In a market crowded with microtransaction-heavy clones, it stands out as a premium experience with long-term ambitions. If successful, it could mark a turning point not just for Netflix's gaming efforts, but for what mobile games can aspire to be.
