YSRCP chief Jagan likens AP situation to ‘Emergency'; says heavy police deployment is to suppress dissent
NELLORE: YSRCP President and former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Thursday launched a scathing attack on the ruling TDP-led NDA government, likening the political situation in the State to an 'Emergency' under the 'Red Book Constitution'. During his Nellore visit, Jagan met former minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy at the Nellore Central Jail. Later, he visited the residence of former MLA Prasanna Kumar Reddy to express solidarity with his family following a recent alleged attack. Addressing the media at Sujathamma colony, Jagan accused the ruling TDP of resorting to undemocratic measures. 'Why are thousands of police officers deployed, not for law and order, but to suppress my supporters?' he questioned. He accused Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu of political vendetta. Accusing the TDP of running an illegal liquor mafia, the YSRCP chief alleged that liquor is being sold at inflated rates from 'unauthorised rooms' under the coalition government, and commissions are being pocketed by Naidu and his MLAs. The former chief minister also alleged large-scale illegal mining of silica and quartz, with kickbacks going to Naidu and his son Lokesh. To monitor the crowd and ensure law and order, the district police deployed 157 CCTV cameras, 14 drones, a special surveillance drone from Tirupati, and mobile camera units.

YSRCP delegation meets SEC
Guntur: YSRCP urged the State Election Commission to ensure that the upcoming local body by-elections are conducted in a transparent and impartial manner. A delegation of YSRCP leaders, including former chief whip Gadikota Srikanth Reddy, former MLA Malladi Vishnu, MLC Mondithoka Arun Kumar, and NTR District YSRCP president Devineni Avinash met SEC Neelam Sawhney here on Thursday and submitted a memorandum outlining their concerns. The delegation emphasised the need for a free and fair electoral process, citing a deteriorating law-and-order situation and intimidation tactics by the ruling coalition that threaten the democratic rights of voters and candidates. The YSRCP leaders expressed alarm over the prevailing atmosphere of fear, which they claim prevents voters from exercising their franchise freely. They highlighted specific instances of intimidation, including a reported threat by a leader named B Tech Ravi in Pulivendula, YSR Kadapa district, who warned candidates against filing nominations. 'The ruling coalition is resorting to threats and violence to suppress opposition voices,' said Gadikota Srikanth Reddy. 'We have urged the SEC to appoint honest and competent officials to oversee the elections,' he said. The commissioner responded positively, noting that software for online nominations is ready and can be implemented upon government approval. The delegation demanded robust security measures, including police protection for candidates filing nominations and comprehensive CCTV surveillance from the nomination stage to vote counting. Former MLA Malladi Vishnu criticised the coalition government for undermining democracy through what he described as a 'Red Book Constitution' that enables attacks on political opponents. 'The law-and-order situation has collapsed, and the ruling party is conspiring to manipulate elections through police complicity and coercion,' he stated. Vishnu pointed to recent municipal and corporation elections where abductions and inducements were used to sway outcomes, underscoring the need for stringent action. MLC Mondithoka Arun Kumar accused the coalition government of orchestrating efforts to silence the opposition and prevent fair elections.

Andhra Pradesh: Jagan accuses Naidu-led govt of using police to target political opponents
YSR Congress party president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday accused the Telugu Desam Party-led (TDP) coalition government headed by chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu of targeting political adversaries and trying to scare them by foisting false cases and sending them to jails. Amid a tense atmosphere, Jagan embarked on a visit to Rentapalla village in faction-ridden Palnadu district with a huge convoy of vehicles and accompanied by thousands of party workers, despite stringent police restrictions, to call on the family of Korlakunta Nagamalleshwara Rao, a YSRCP deputy sarpanch of the village, who died by suicide on June 11, 2024, allegedly due to harassment by TDP leaders. Speaking to reporters after consoling the family members of Nagamalleswara Rao and unveiling his statue in the village, Jagan said Naidu had been using the police to settle political scores. Narrating the sequence of events that led to the suicide of Nagamalleswara Rao, the YSRCP chief alleged that the TDP and Jana Sena Party workers had filed false cases against him, driving him to take the extreme step. 'Nagamalleswara Rao was picked up by police one day before the counting and was threatened, insulted and beaten up. When the results were declared on June 4, he was again summoned to the station and warned. Unable to bear the humiliation, he went to his father Venkatesh's place in Guntur and consumed pesticide. He was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries,' Jagan said. Stating that Nagamalleshwar Rao stood as an example of police atrocities, the YSRCP chief warned that all the erring officials would have to pay a heavy price for misuse of power once the YSRCP bounced back to power after four years. 'The Naidu government has completely ignored development and welfare, and is focusing on implementing a 'Red Book Constitution' to unleash a reign of terror against the political opponents,' he alleged. Reacting strongly to Jagan's allegations, senior TDP leader and state irrigation minister Nimmala Ramanaidu said YSRCP deputy sarpanch Nagamalleshwara Rao had committed suicide two days before the TDP-led coalition assumed charge on June 13 last year. 'Linking his death to the new government is nothing but foolishness,' he said. He accused Jagan of consistently trying to disrupt peace and law and order in the state and damaging its brand image. He said that during the YSRCP's five-year rule, the state had witnessed only vendettas, misgovernance, false cases, and harassment. 'The coalition government is working to free the people from such misrule and is progressing with notable achievements in just one year,' he said. Ramanaidu said Nagamalleshwar Rao died by suicide due to losses incurred by betting on the election results. 'It is strange that Jagan chose to call on his family a year after his death,' he added. The minister pointed out that the police had denied Jagan permission for the visit, but he went ahead anyway, with his followers creating a war-like environment by playing drums, whistles, dancing, garlands, and sloganeering. 'Condolence visits are meant to be sombre and respectful. But Jagan's conduct was in stark contrast — even displaying provocative banners with threats. This is not condolence. This is incitement to violence,' Ramanaidu added.

YSRCP book exposes NDA government's ‘betrayal' of promises
VIJAYAWADA: YSRCP State coordinator Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy, alongside senior leaders, released a book documenting the 'failures' of the TDP-led NDA government in the past one year at the party central office in Tadepalli on Thursday. Speaking to the media, Sajjala accused the coalition government of pushing the State into 'dark days' through broken promises, oppressive governance, and systematic destruction. 'Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu's rule stands for deceit, while YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's legacy represents trust,' Sajjala said, contrasting the current administration with the YSRCP's governance, which he said laid the foundation for a golden future. The YSRCP termed the NDA's one year rule a 'betrayal' of Andhra Pradesh's five crore people. The book exposes the one year 'misrule' of NDA, from stifling dissent with 'Red Book Constitution' to filing 'false' cases through 'misuse' of police, fostering corruption, and dismantling the progress achieved during the previous YSRCP regime. Sajjala highlighted that 1.3 lakh government jobs were created, 17 new medical colleges and four ports were taken up during the previous regime, and the systemic reforms and achievements during 2019-24 were unmatched in the State's history.
